  1. many thanks for input , as said the fiancee way seems double trouble , we would never marry in Thailand as we want out ASAP ,so am considering New Zealand as family live there , this must surely be same value as Thailand  ? we want ASAP as near 70 so see death coming before the end result ! there seems to be a change in BKK with application dealt with in UK now , will this affect chance of approval or length of dealing with it ? I understand normally she could be called for an interview so we need to sit and wait in a hotel while its dealt with or am I wrong ?is there a chance in the near future that , as some countries , applications can be made at any embassy ? many thanks ,

  2. UK Settlement –quickest route

We are both old and considering the quickest route , ideally we would marry out of the UK. It seems we could save some months by marrying in the UK , is this correct thinking ?

The problem is now my lady has re entry troubles although well in visa limits .

Another point is with either form to fill my lady will have to say where she has been living. We have been for 5 years constantly traveling on tourist visa s , UK , New Zealand , Schengen to name the main   ones. We do not visit Thailand for more than a few days per year .what to say for her “residence “ its Thailand by definition but not practice !

I am British but not “lived “in UK for 40 years as I have been working in government and been seconded for that time. Since retirement 7years ago I have been “resident “ in the UK where we “live” (visit ) under the conditions of a visitor visa (short stays of a few weeks ) up to 170 days per visa running year. Will this lifestyle be bad for an application ?

All visa applications I have handled but think now expert experience could be wise ,

A UK or Thai agent ?

Many thanks in advance for wise comments !

  3. Beware ..! what your doing is risky ! if you ask 5 weeks and stay 5 months the next application you may well have a problem .as for Schengen visa , if she is Thai she has to apply in Bangkok . thats it . although the regulations laid down by the European Commission could seem to be helpfull I would be more than astounded if any EU Schengen state issues you a Visa in London . Even a small change to a valid Visa is in practice impossible .for the Schengen Visa you need to apply to your main country of interest , not at all necessarily the first entry .you can get a schengen visa in Bangkok in about 3 days with some luck but take care with what is asked and actually required . your UK visa is a giant bonus point .As previous post says , UK has a reciprocal arrangement with The Republic .

  4. you need to find a reliable Thai because no one will give you good info as a foreigner , it will be smudged to save face.district know id of all in the area and a Thai from there will find out.

  5. no where is perfect ..its a question of balancing good with evil ! without a doubt the best country in the entire world and nearby is Luxembourg ...but..in the summer its full of giant flies ! great for BBQ !

  6. immigration next to port so slightly out of central town .its very good ,helpfull, efficient.not too many foreigners but enough to keep them going !also near by is the transport office for your driving licence etc.same praise also applies.

  7. the system here is to go to a local hospital and then get a referral to Srinagarind hospital khon kaen .if you just turn up there you have to pay (talking about Thai who are registered )its one of the best in Thailand .If you are foreign and need help and willing to pay (it is cheap compared to western hospitals )then they have a liaison officer who is there to make your visit a piece of cake.

  8. its an interesting topic because we see it from another perspective ,we have different beliefs and different aspirations .in the western world would you buy gold to show off in the market or a new central heating system ?we would buy a new car (some of us )to park outside , not in the garage ,to show the newest model .but we have the money to drive the car and we need one.few villagers buy hygiene products or a real kitchen because it has no " face value " but gold does .it amuses me to see poorly dressed women squatting "in the kitchen " that is on a brick in the mud in the "garden" (garden is dust or mud )next to the only one tap they have but adorned with lumps of gold ,not elegant designs of gold , a lump .but this is important for the visit to the market . "look ! i got there ! smart phone i cannot use and a gold brick ! as we have such different values its hard for us to understand so its slated as stupidity but in reality its only "different " from us .im certain the villagers think im crazy to waste money on good food , insulation in my house and fine furniture , why ! i even have a bed ! can you imagine ! so stupid when you can lay on the floor !what a waste of money just think the size of gold lump you could get for the price of a bed and a table ! So its all in the mind that we can never change as they have never known an existence like that .

However once " converted " they never want to return to the same level .

ask a Thai living permanently in the west and the answer is always never to return to live but to visit YES ! 2 or 3 times a year if possible !

my wife is under constant pressure in the village for MORE and MORE of what she had given when working so a visit to the village is stress !

  9. what you see on the surface and what is actual reality are quite different ! supermarkets are full ...yes ! with shoppers ? NO ! trollys full of kids and the family enjoying FREE aircon ! not many ,if any products in the trolly .my village has many new cars but how are they obtained (note the word obtained ) they are not paid for and will not be either ,they are "ambulant " they come and go .often once obtained just sit as no money to use ,.then they evaporate .in my village people dont shop in supermarkets as they cant read ! thats why these pickups selling items for a much higher price survive because they tell the people what is what and pay on the never never . why do we have the daily news at 0600 broadcast over the village ? because villagers cant read and get informed or perhaps , be misinformed for a reason .my particular village they are well looked after , and although food is pleantifull the question of nutritional value does not enter the equation , neither does its safety as its cooked at 0600 and eaten continuously through the day along with the dog dribble, geko poo ,fly spit and , just to add flavour , the " drinking water " you know the make , comes from a concrete ong filled by rainwater 3 months ago , used as cow drinking point and served in a cup the entire village uses ! OMG !

if you look under the stone you see a different world .it was the world of my wife before she grasped the opportunity to escape and achieve a "normal"read civilised existence .there are very few in isan who have good quality life by honest means earnt in isan .the reason ? politics .an uneducated population cant ask questions.

  10. the higher the angle and the bigger the overlap the less chance of rain ingress with high wind .low angle small overlap = cheap and guaranteed leak !as is normal in isan due to financial restraint !i used 60degree white for reflection so place looks like a wat !

  11. well i think LOI sees things with a good heart ,it is where i am much the same , tom makes a very relevant point in that the education of family makes the difference , of course he is right . the bottom line is that education and personal motivation makes a world of difference .i cannot motivate , even with cash as an incentive youth in the village to learn .Thai mentality puts little emphasis on the future or moving further than Bangkok. consequently my village , a rich poor village has very high illiteracy ,bad health with lung problems and cancer main killers (apart motorcycle deaths )all the villagers have financial problems except the card player who has a new house , this person is seen to be "lucky " not a scum bag stealing from the ignorant !my own wife ? educated, director of personnel , car owner, property owner , world traveller , what a difference for education !

  12. If you put any value on the lives of your wife and children then you would take her out of Thailand to learn to drive properly rather than learn to pay back handers .Its not in Thai mentality to take responsibility so consequently you can see the results every day with mounting road deaths.Buy the biggest vehicle as you have a better chance of survival .
