  1. As tourism drops and Quantitive Easing dollars dry up (along with the construction boom they financed), Thais personal incomes will be suffering. This is a stressful occurrence and made even more so because many thais, for the first time, have very large personal loans.

Just as happened in the US after 2008 crash, its quite possible that more incidents of rage will occur.

Nothing to do with being drunk and probably off his head then?

  2. Unfortunately Patong has out-priced itself.

    http://www.pintprice.com

You will be shocked at the price difference of many other Asian countries which are far cheaper.

Great site , but I was a bit shocked at how much for a pint at Willywanger these days!

The last time I was there it was half that price!

    Willywanger, Australia

Lager in Willywanger is $0.15 AUD

I think that site is well out of date.

£3 for a pint of lager in Pootong. In your dreams.

  3. There are numerous boats from foreign counties travelling for tourism around Phuket and neighbouring islands, which causes heavy water traffic congestion

Not the thousands of local fishing boats and ferries then?

We have a Class B transponder and it was on the whole time we sailed through thousands of Thai and Malay fishing boats when crossing over from the Maldives. Not one of them appeared on our AIS screen. The point being, it is half-hearted to make foreign pleasure vessels buy AIS but not enforce it across all vessels. We all share the same waters, after all, so therefore we should all be accountable. Most foreign yacht owners exercise safe seamanship etiquette; we run the correct lights at night for starters. Show me a local fishing boat that obeys international COLREGS and I'll eat my hat.

Whilst we feel we benefit from having AIS, enforcing it by using the argument foreign pleasure yachts create all the traffic is short-sighted and one-sided.

    Welcome to Thailand.

The hub of the short- sighted and the one sided.

  4. I saw the division bell tour twice- at Earls Court and Versailles. Two completely different concerts, and both spectacular. The old Waters/ Gilmour argument will always come up, and this album isn't by any means new, just previously unreleased from the Gilmour era. Fwiw, I tend to agree with Gilmour that the content for Animals was getting a bit old, and I think the stuff they did with Gilmour had a lot of value, and of course- never forget Sid. Shine on you crazy diamond!

I too went to the Earls Court concert.

It does not seem like 20years ago.

What a night . I think it was the best concert I have been to and I've been to a few.

    Still got the t-shirt.

  5. A friend of mine was there for 7 1/2 hours the other day.

He said the rush for the door at opening time was like a rugby scrum with people pushing and shoving with a few nearly coming to blows.

I have never seen him so stressed out. Not too good for the old blood pressure.

I suppose I will get the I've been here for a 100 years and never had a problem brigade.

  6. Fortunately I have been able to read this excellent post before the TV humbug brigade get started, even a story like this will not escape the sarcastic and negative treatment from the self obsessed and bitter minority.

An excellent example of an honest and self respecting Thai doing the right thing, I am sure the British tourist will have suitably rewarded him for his honesty. This amount of cash would have made a difference to this drivers life, his actions should not be minimized.

    He is to be commended...

Agree but it hardly news is it.

It is called normal in most countries.

  7. I used to go to Kata beach quite often and used to watch them towing the scum skis off the beach with a motorbike.

They used to take long run traveling along the beach at stupid speeds just get stuck half way then do it again.

I always dreaded a child running down to the sea and being hit by one of these morons and what would happen to them.

    Now I know .Absolutely nothing.

To digress a little I was talking to an English guy here with his family last and he was saying that where there you used to see many ads on travel agents windows promoting Thai holidays, he has not seen one this year and a lot of people back there are following all the bad press this place is getting.

Plus he said when you can get flights to other countries in Europe for as little as £25. Who is going to come here to get ripped off all the time.

Sorry to say but I think the brutal murders on koh tao was that final straw for a lot of people.

  8. Hopefully the guy recovers without any permanent injuries.

Why are the hospitals being so hush hush about this? It's not as if they respect their patients privacy when it has been news worthy in the past.

Probably been ordered to keep quiet as Phuket 's already tarnished tourist image is already in tatters and just can not stand any more bad news

  9. Appreciate the feedback people thank you very much. Bugger me.... I might just hang on to it given those prices. The listed value is indeed 800K+ but market prices right now are more like 650K+. I was thinking of selling it and buying a Wildtrak 3.2 which sell for 1,039,000. I would have to shell out around 300-350K to upgrade. I wasn't expecting that!

Sort of got the bug though now. I had no idea Wildtraks came in 3.2 engines. I always thought they were 2.2 only which put me off buying one when the new ones released. I love me Isuzu - its solid and quick - but the Wildtraks just seem like another level to me.

    Anyway thanks for you help

    TLS

I have an Isuzu and would not trade it for a ford.

The Ford looks good and thats about all.

I have a couple of mates with the Wildtrack and they wished the had kept their Toyota's

  10. I can understand having a category of guides who can provide services to foreigners...they should have shown a knowledge language and needs of their potential foreign clients as well as the knowledge of the area they are showing. I cannot understand why these extra qualified guides can not service local tourists too.

Because you have just entered the world of Narnia where there is no logic or sense to anything that happens.
