  1. I find it amazing that they actually think people are a danger to them. If she came in a Yaris and just dived with everyone else I'm sure nobody would even notice who she is.

    I guess it's a ego thing.

Few years ago I missed a flight as they closed most of the Pattaya to Bkk highway so she could drive herself down to Pattaya.

  2. I would like to know how the police detected the money, do they internally search everyone? Or perhaps the guy needed to take a dump? Did he feel pangs of guilt and say "geez officer, Im really sorry, but ive got a 100k stashed round the back door....you mind helping me retreive it?"

    Probably.

Col. Suttichai said " While we were searching their hotel room, they attempted to bribe us with 100,000 cash.

They probably felt it would be a bit hard to spend after it had been there

I wonder what this guys family thinks...I googled his name and he owns some glass company or something. I bet he will bear the brunt of a lot of jokes for the rest of his life

Probably 2 x 50,000 baht rolls in lubricated condoms.

It's amazing what you can get up there if the price is right. ohmy.png

Only joking but you seem to have an appropriate name for this thread.

  3. I am living in Phuket for 18 years now, my rent never went up, I have a great friendship with my (Thai) landlord. The original lease contract was set up for 2 years, we never extended it, I am just paying my rent... No problems at all. I wish you can find a landlord like that guy... I suggest never rent from a falang...

All well and good if you can find an old school Thai who is not greedy.I also lived on Phuket for a long time and my rent only increased by 500 bht over 8 years. That is until the landlords son came on the scene and the rent started to go up and up and if you tried to reason with him he just got aggressive and told to you to move out.

I think out of the 8 houses he owned 6 moved out and the rent almost doubled.

That with all the other crap that goes with Phuket seemed a good time to move on.

Fortunately I only have to return to Pooket for one week a month now.

All depends what you want but I prefer the quiet places now.

  4. The whole operation has been a bit of a fiasco, so far as vehicle control and flow, hasn't it? Since day one the traffic light configuration never changed to reflect the reality of flow, hence the total disregard for traffic light colour......... How to turn left and right to Patong or Phuket Town has been a bit of a mystery for some time, too.

    Shambolic.

    TIT

Did anyone honestly think this would not be the case here?

P**s up and brewery always spring to mind here

  5. Thailand is becoming less of a place to put on the travel list now. I wonder when stats will be forthcoming on just how dangerous Thailand is? I don't mean for foreign travellers but in general..

It has always been dangerous in certain areas but it seems it is spreading fast now.

I always use to feel safe here but not any more.

If ever I see a gang of these cowardly scum hanging around I avoid them like the plague.

Where are the "This happens in many countries brigade".

  6. As tourism drops and Quantitive Easing dollars dry up (along with the construction boom they financed), Thais personal incomes will be suffering. This is a stressful occurrence and made even more so because many thais, for the first time, have very large personal loans.

Just as happened in the US after 2008 crash, its quite possible that more incidents of rage will occur.

Nothing to do with being drunk and probably off his head then?

  7. Unfortunately Patong has out-priced itself.

    http://www.pintprice.com

You will be shocked at the price difference of many other Asian countries which are far cheaper.

Great site , but I was a bit shocked at how much for a pint at Willywanger these days!

The last time I was there it was half that price!

    Willywanger, Australia

Lager in Willywanger is $0.15 AUD

I think that site is well out of date.

£3 for a pint of lager in Pootong. In your dreams.

  8. There are numerous boats from foreign counties travelling for tourism around Phuket and neighbouring islands, which causes heavy water traffic congestion

Not the thousands of local fishing boats and ferries then?

We have a Class B transponder and it was on the whole time we sailed through thousands of Thai and Malay fishing boats when crossing over from the Maldives. Not one of them appeared on our AIS screen. The point being, it is half-hearted to make foreign pleasure vessels buy AIS but not enforce it across all vessels. We all share the same waters, after all, so therefore we should all be accountable. Most foreign yacht owners exercise safe seamanship etiquette; we run the correct lights at night for starters. Show me a local fishing boat that obeys international COLREGS and I'll eat my hat.

Whilst we feel we benefit from having AIS, enforcing it by using the argument foreign pleasure yachts create all the traffic is short-sighted and one-sided.

    Welcome to Thailand.

The hub of the short- sighted and the one sided.

  9. I saw the division bell tour twice- at Earls Court and Versailles. Two completely different concerts, and both spectacular. The old Waters/ Gilmour argument will always come up, and this album isn't by any means new, just previously unreleased from the Gilmour era. Fwiw, I tend to agree with Gilmour that the content for Animals was getting a bit old, and I think the stuff they did with Gilmour had a lot of value, and of course- never forget Sid. Shine on you crazy diamond!

I too went to the Earls Court concert.

It does not seem like 20years ago.

What a night . I think it was the best concert I have been to and I've been to a few.

    Still got the t-shirt.
