I am a UK Passport holder. so does that mean I automatically get 30 days upon arrival in Suvarnabhumi.
Would it be the same if I arrive (internationally) to Don Muang or Phuket?

PS: So I guess this article is incorrect:
    https://www.handyvisas.com/news/thailand-to-keep-45-day-visa-free-stays-until-the-end-of-2023/

    You qualify for visa exemptions.

The proposal to keep visa exempt entries at 45 days was, in the end, not accepted.

  2. Applications for Thai visas in India go through a third party (VFS). If you apply, you are very likely to get a rejection from the embassy without any reason being given. That is a common result of Thai visa applications in India.

It would be best just to return with a visa exemption (unless your prior immigration history in Thailand would make a denied entry possible.

  3. Depending on where you are staying (somewhere with lots of foreigners so you do not stick out) and if no TM30 notification was made to show where you arte staying, Immigration may totally lose track of you, You will still need some luck to stay under the radar. If Immigration really want to find you, they can. They will only make a special effort during a crackdown.

I never heard about any advice to bring a letter written by your wife for Savannakhet, whether pre or post Covid. I've gotten 4 visas through there now, all non-O multiple entry. 3 pre Covid, one post Covid. The requirements are still the same now as they were in early 2020 and prior to that.

It is required when applying for a Non O to visit your Thai spouse at some embassies/consulates. Savannakhet has historically not demanded it, but I would suggest taking one along just in case. Preparing such a letter takes five minutes.

Does anyone know which immigration form needs to be submitted for changing extension based on employment to extension based on retirement? TM86 and TM7 seem the closest match, but neither match the intention perfectly. Perhaps TM7 with an explanation at the bottom?

All extensions use the TM7 form. You explain at the time of the application your reason for the extension, and the officials verify your provided documents based on this.

... and I assume that if I choose the option of 60 days extension I can't apply for the work permit. Correct? I am asking this because I already have a new employer that wants me to start working on 1st November and he will have the WP documentation ready by then.

You should the able to apply for a work permit (and subsequent extension based on working or Thai spouse) while on a 60-day extension, but this should be verified with your local labour and immigration offices. Since you will still be on a Non Immigrant entry, there is no absolute reason why this should not be allowed. The officials will look closely at your income from the new job.

  7. In the worst case, avoid visa exemptions by air. Instead, make an appointment at the embassy in Vientiane, and travel there for a tourist visa. With a visa, you would probably be OK returning by air, but I recommend returning by land via the Friendship Bridge to Nong Khai.

If the company has been stringing you along with promises of a work permit, that is now unlikely to transpire, and you should plan accordingly. If you want to stay in Thailand, avoid risk.

For 10k baht I will ... the fee for suggesting I'm being deceptive.   Put up, or shut up.  I'm sure we can find a mutual member to hold the funds.

I did not accuse you of anything, and am always interested in learning of anything new. Maybe, there was a pretence that you were applying for an extension that is taken under consideration with a decision 30 days later. Or, you were given a 30-day "medical" extension. Or it was during Covid when Immigration did have the discretion to hand out 30-day or 60-day extensions. I would just be interested in knowing how it was done. It would not have been a retirement extension which is always for one-year (or until the expiry date of your passport).

For example, on the 1st TM30 informed that the guest would stay for 60 days.  However, the guest merely had a visa exemption stamp for 30 days.  So is it necessary then to submit a 2nd TM30 after another 30-day extension is obtained?

Not necessary in this case. However, a new visa exempt entry (or an entry with a new visa) does necessitate a new notification.

    Technically, probably no.

But ... never hurts to ask at IO.  I screwed up the paperwork/bank one time, and IO simply extended my visa 30 days so I could sort it out.

They can use their discretion any time, especially when it comes to retirement visa.  At worse, as suggested, just do a border hop.

I would be most interested in knowing the reason under the relevant police order for giving you a 30-day extension when on a Non Immigrant entry. The only common reasons are medical, court case or special request by your embassy. Even a high ranking immigration official cannot give you an extension without using one of the official categories. Perhaps, you could post a scan of the extension stamp.
