About a year ago I completely quit drinking beer and lost a great deal of weight. Last month I was in Australia and the immigration officer didn't believe I was the person on my passport photo. It took 2 supervisors to sort it out.

I moved here 21/2 years ago weighing 107kg and now weigh 87kg. I did have to get a new passport while here so will avoid this. What did I do. Stop eating bread and cheese and stopped drinking. My wife is a very good Thai cook and she does not eat Farang food so this was very easy to do. Also swim about 1km 5 days a week on top of an active yoga practice. Do these things and losing weight is guaranteed.

I agree, it is easy to lose weight here in Thailand. I've also lost 20kgs just in the last 8 months. I'm not a drinker, but eating thai food and lots of fresh fruit and vegetables and walking a lot has done the trick for me. I feel much fitter and healthier for it and life in Thailand suits me perfectly.

  2. Yesterday, he wanted the army out.

Today, he wants the help of the army.

Tomorrow, he will come up with some stupid suggestion.

Always, a great entertainment listening to this clown.

And hopefully he will soon be moving back to Denmark.

Well he wont be going to Dubai for there you need a license to drink.

Not true. You can buy alcoholic drinks in hotel bars and other specified places in Dubai. This doesn't apply to the whole of the UAE though.

  3. Regarding the was...Thailand's lack of "fitness", gave me a small pot belly & derived me from all previous muscle. Thailand is the ABSOLUTE WORST COUNTRY FOR HEALTH and FITNESS.

You certainly can't blame your lack of fitness and bad health on Thailand. It has to be down to your eating habits and lack of exercise.

I have lost 20 kgs in the last seven months here in Thailand, through a combination of eating good food available here in abundance and walking a fair distance most days. IMO Thailand is the BEST country to become fit and healthy and some of the best weather too.

  4. My ex was definitely addicted to her three phones. They never left her side no matter what the hour or the situation. Yet on many occasions, when I tried to contact her, the phone was either switched off or not answered at all.

Needless to say, it was the result of her insistence to never change her ways that led me to leave her to cuddle up to them at night.

I made sure that my current girlfriend was not addicted to her mobile in this way. Peace and happiness at last!

  5. I used www.thaivisarun.com two months ago and I can thoroughly recommend their service.

For a cost of 2,000 baht, they complete all the necessary paperwork before departure on the day. All you have to provide is your passport and one 6 x 4cm passport photo. The 2,000 baht includes the cost of the visa and also a meal on the coach to the border. You can even choose which meal you'd prefer from a menu.

Their coaches are comfortable and air-conditioned and leave at 9:30am from Bangkok. At the Cambodian border, it takes about 40 minutes to complete the necessary checks to get your new 90 day stamp, before leaving to return to Bangkok. You can also take advantage of some duty frees to make even more savings on Thai prices.

I have to do the visa run again next month and I wouldn't use any other company for the trip. And no, I'm not on their payroll or do I get any commission for giving them the thumbs up. thumbsup.gif:)

  6. Saying I love you and being affectionate do not come naturally to most of them, but when they love you, you can be sure they will be loyal, honest, faithful, supportive and respect you.

Not true. My last Thai girlfriend told me she loved me, yet she was NOT loyal, honest, faithful or supportive at all. That's why I left her and took away my financial support.

  7. Being here for 7 months we can't bring that much cash! 12000 baht a time is the most we're allowed to withdraw from an ATM in a day. On the one occasion we went to the teller and asked to withdraw 20000 baht, she just escorted us to the ATM (where we could only withdraw 12000). She just shrugged her shoulders and went back to her desk.

Open a thai bank account and transfer required funds as and when.

You can, but your overseas bank will charge to make the transfer, which would probably be more than 150 baht.

It depends on who you use, long time expats will I assure you use ways and means which are very inexpensive by comparison,I can transfer money from the UK for as little as £ 9 GBP, that's 483.23 baht at today's exchange rate,if you can't afford that then you really should consider why you live in Thailand and fret over banking and ATM fees.

I'm not fretting, it doesn't cost me anywhere near £9 to transfer funds from the UK. On that basis, you should go back to the drawing board and start fretting as you're the one lining the fat cats pockets.

  8. For anyone that has had to obtain a visa on arrival in Turkey will know that it creates a real bottleneck, especially at busy flight arrivals. In addition, you have to pay in either £'s for UK passport holders, Euros or $'s for other citizens. For UK citizens a £10 note was all they would accept and they have been known to refuse them with tears and writing scribbled all over them. They wouldn't accept Scottish £10 notes at all.

So, IMHO, the e-visa application is a step in the right direction and will definitely speed up the entry time on arrival.

However, Thailand is NOT on the list of eligible countries to obtain an e-visa. This is what the website says:-

    Thai citizens.

Exempt from Visa. You are exempted from visa for tourist visits of up to 90 days within 180 days starting from the first entry date. Requirements to be considered for visa exemption:

Valid for touristic purposes not exceeding 30 days per entry.

For UK citizens the following e-visa terms apply:-

Arrival Date in Turkey 14 February 2014 (for example)

Your e- visa is valid from 14 February 2014 to 12 August 2014 for a total period of 180 days. Your stay cannot exceed 90 days. The cost is $20.

For other nationalities you simply input your country when you click on the apply now for an e-visa and it will tell you the terms of your visa and the amount to be paid.

Seems pretty straightforward to me and for those without visa or mastercards of their own, they can use another persons, with their approval of course. :)

  9. #1. Stay in a hotel with good AC and there is no need for screens or open windows.

#2. Mosquitoes don't seem to bother Thais as much as they do Farangs.

Guys in my village get a kick out of drinking Lao Kao while swatting the one who bite them. the line them up in frnt of each guy who has swatted them so they can keep a good count of who is ahead!

I offer them repellent and they laugh like I am a sissy!

#3. I believe you develop an immunity to the mosquitoes you have grown up being bitten by.

In California, where I grew up, I had many jobs requiring me to be out in the forest all night getting bitten all night long

    .

After years of this, I would feel the initial bite, but would no longer react to the bite.

No itching, no swelling or bumps.

Since relocating to Thailand, I feel the bite, I itch and develop a bump!

I think Thais have this immunity to the local mosquitoes.

#4,I believe Thai mosquitoes prefer blood that is new to them.

When with a group of Thais, I notice I get many more bites than they do.

My joke in Thai: Yun alloy Farang...

    Farang mai chop yun!

    It always gets a laugh.

My advice: Use deet and spring for the cost of a good hotel with good AC

    . Keep the windows closed!

I think you have just explained why my ex-girlfriend NEVER got bitten by mosquitoes in her flat, yet I was eaten alive all the time.

My mother may also have hit the nail on the head when she said the mosquitoes always go for bad meat! smile.png

  10. Used the Aeon ATM at Siam Electronics yesterday. No charge....................

I also used the Aeon ATM at Big C, Chaeng Wattana Road yesterday and there was no charge. However, today, i was charged the 150 baht at the same ATM machine.

  12. I have used FairFx cards for a number of years now and they give you one of the best exchange rates when loading money onto them. There is a choice of a Dollar card, a Euro card or an Anywhere card.

As the previous poster mentioned, if you use an Aeon ATM to withdraw cash in Thailand, the 180 baht fee, which all the other banks charge, is not levied. Aeon ATMs are usually found in the large supermarkets such as Big C and Tesco.

For further information go to http://www.fairfx.com/ref/yplzv this explains how the cards work, terms and conditions etc. It is possible for the initial card fee to be waived also by following that link.

  13. The result says a lot about the type of people who by mob voting deprived the Pakistani schoolgirl of victory. You can`t stoop lower than selfishly stealing the laurels from a truly brave hero, especially one so young who stood up to Islamist fanatics.

I totally agree. She deserved to win without a doubt for her bravery. Suthep can't even be brave enough to stand for election to see how many people will actually vote for him. He's all mouth and no trousers.

  14. Thais want everything to be fun, or sanook, including education.

How to make sex education fun?

An ex girlfriend of mine, while in college was required to teach sex education to teen age girls as part of her curriculum.

To make it "fun" she passed out condoms and bananas to each girl in class.

She then showed them how to put a condom on using nothing but their mouth.

The girls had a lot of fun practicing with their bananas.

Some of the girls later reported to her that their boyfriends who previously refused to use a condom, let them try this method and liked it!

The Thai government is handing out condoms like candy and there are bananas everywhere in Thailand.

Why not give it a try??

The funny thing to me is that my girlfriend never once asked me to use a condom! attachicon.gifasian-girl-jams-banana-in-her-mouth.jpg

    Neither did mine.

In my experience, using condoms is a bit like washing your feet with your socks on. I have a feeling I will get some stick for saying that. smile.png

  15. It's just slang.

For example, people refer to Cambridge in England as 'the bridge'. It's just a different way of saying things to mix it up, the same way that using the same word twice in a paragraph is bad practice.

I thought that 'the bridge' was Chelsea's football ground. smile.png

  16. I applied for my first multi-entry non 'O' visa from Hull last September by post. The rules have changed in as much as approval has to be given by the Thai Embassy in London. Hull fax all the documents to London rather than sending them by post which speeds up the process.

I had a similar experience to the OP, receiving my passport and visa back within 2 days. No problems at all. Exceptional service in this day and age.
