  1. I used to run on Dongtan beach at sunset or sunrise, but the last time I was there, the entire beach from the Dongtan police box northward was blocked to the shoreline with tables and chairs( and to the south as well). Morning and evenings were impossible to get runs in . That's a really nice run. Anyways. Where would be a good place to run, preferably not on pavement? I see a lot of guys running Beach Road, but I hate pavement running. Any suggestions?

    Best,

  2. I'm going to put this sentence in capital letters so that it will make an impression on you: WATCH VERY, VERY CAREFULLY HOW THEY PREPARE YOUR FOOD.

Twice and in different locations I ordered Pad Thai from street vendors who both did exactly the same thing. While waiting for them to serve previous Thai customers, they took an egg from the next available slot in the 30-egg carton to make the food. When it came time for them to make my food, they took a cracked egg from the middle of the carton, which I had already seen whilst waiting, and used that egg. I just walked away.

In western countries, this would be psychopathic behavior; knowingly feeding a customer potentially life-threatening food with full knowledge of what they were doing. In Thailand, it is Thais being Thais. They didn't want to get a regular customer sick, and stupid farang will go back to Farangland so who cares if they get food poisoning or salmonella or botulism? Purposely giving tainted food to someone is sick and not what human beings do. But, hey...this is Thailand. You could get stabbed and your attacker would do no jail time and pay a B500 fine.

Thais do not care about non-Thais. This is indisputable.

Bottom line: Watch how your food is prepared.

  3. I was driving up from Trat with several friends in the car. Traffic on the freeway slowed to a crawl. We passed a horrible accident. The police had just pulled over a car with young Thai guys in it for...we guessed playing their music too loud around a serious accident where there were dead bodies. That, my friends, is how the Thais are going to deal with traffic safety: after the fact and a poor response.

I think that dying in a crash in Thailand and having stupid grinning police and first responders taking pictures with your corpse is just as bad though.

  4. The warm up track next to Nat Stadium is open to the public each afternoon until 7pm and was in the past free. Members of the public go there for a jog

Ram Uni, Chula Uni has a nice one. There is also a track at Bangkok Technic but not so good.

    Where do you live?

Start with the warm up track next to Nat Stadium, easy from the BTS as you can see it from the W1 arrival platform.

I'll be moving to Bangkok next month. I will actually move near to a nice indoor track, if I find one.

  5. Off Thetsaban Songkhro in Lat Yao there is a pool and running track of a great standard. The Soi is Thetsaban Rangrak Tai Alley. It's not too far from Chatuchak. Let me know how you go Soi Stalker. When you see it, you'll be impressed mate...and I do like a beer. Sent from my iPhone using Thaivisa Connect Thailand

Oh, that does sound nice! Can you mark it on a satellite map and send the link?

  6. Immediately go to the police. Thai police don't want to help you, but you have no choice. I'd also stand out front of their office and tell every foreigner who wants to go in what happened to you. I did that before in Pattaya and it worked. I had a ticket, tried to move the date and was put on a waiting list. My new date came up, but when the travel agent couldn't reach me, she cancelled the original reservation AND the new date. I was stuck for another 6 weeks and was running low on money. I stood in front of her shop for several hours, telling my story and suggesting that customers go elsewhere. They sorted it out, but I still got the shaft on B2500.

  7. I am looking for a running track in Bangkok. Preferably somewhere inside, but it needs to be a real running track...spongy red track like they use in track and field competitions. I am not interested in pathways in parks that are not exclusively for runners and walkers. Directions and/or general area would be most welcome. It's worth a beer. Thanks, guys.
