  1. No opinions?

I bet if I was looking for bar or bargirl recommendations that I'd have a ton of responses.

    ?

    ??

  2. Yes, his response was a bit much, but I've had random French people be rude to me for less than that.

On a recent trip to Angkor Wat, I was in back of two thirty-something French women in the immigration queue at the airport. They were talking to each other, not noticing their turn had come to go to the counter. The immigration guy stood up and called them, so I leaned forward and said go. They turned around, one waved her finger at me, tsk tsk tsk, she said, and we are on vacation. I just let it go. Then my wife and I are at Angkor Wat taking the iconic photo from just inside the gate when some other frenchie starts trying to shoo us to the side for his photo. No. Not going to happen.

Everyone is just getting ruder these days, and then we have the Chinese.

  3. I have heard that the best gyms in Jomtien are the Hard Body Gym, Tony's Gym, and the Bear Gym. Do any of you guys work out in these places? Know anything about them? Deals? I am hoping to find someplace reasonable priced, with good machines and air conditioning.

Thus welcome to LOS and way of the Thai (Some)

Thanks. I've been coming here several times a year for about 20 years. I finally figured out how to stay here.

But I figured out about LOS and everything it is here, thanks in great part to this website, and others.

when I hear that I am a sexy man, I still believe it though.?

  5. Funny comments.

my farang wife and I bought a condo here. We plan to retire here. We want to start a business which would require giving direction to Thai employees who will not speak English.

I want to get a legal visa to study here. I don't want to get scammed and I don't want to pay money to little people who abuse their government positions to get handouts.

I feel dirty to be involved in this kind of thing.

  6. Hi guys,

I have signed up for a Thai language course with ED visa. I have two questions:

The school says Laos is where most students go to get their ED visa processed, but I want to go to Phnom Penh as I lived there before and know the place. Anyone heard anything about getting the ED visa processed in Phnom Penh?

The paperwork from the Education Ministry will not be finished before my 30 day Visa Exemption (the one you get on demand at the airport) expires. I know I can get another 30 day extension at immigration for 2000 baht, but are there shorter-term options available?

    Cheers.

  7. I don't know how you guys are going to take this, but I try to limit my interaction with Thai men as much as possible. I am married, so I don't hang around the bars and I don't bring hookers back to my condo. I am usually inside by dark, but if not, I am around other people and not isolated. These things, I believe, keep me safe.

But as a younger man, I remember being with my farang girlfriend on vacation on Koh Chang. This would have been back in 2002, when there were really not a lot of tourists. We walked down the beach at night holding hands and kissing. I didn't see it as dangerous, and it turned out that it wasn't, but I wouldn't do it these days as I would think twice due to it not being safe, but also that Thai men are allowed to assault and hurt farangs with little chance of being prosecuted. Remember the watch seller who got a 500 baht fine for stabbing a farang?! What kind of signal does it send to Thais that they can hurt us and, if not caught in the act (unlikely), that the police are too incompetent or indifferent to do anything about it.

That time on Koh Chang, we were sitting around a fire with mostly farang. One young Thai guy in his 20s was acting like Mr. Big man, smoking marijuana with the female tourists. I couldn't figure out whether he was tried to get laid or trying selling weed, but it wasn't any of my business. He looked at me and asked me where I was from. I said America. He gave me an evil look and said that he didn't like America. I let it go, because I didn't give a <deleted> what he thought and I was isolated on the beach with my girlfriend.

Be careful. Smile to everyone. Don't argue with a Thai. Don't get overly drunk in pubic. Don't get pushed off your deck by someone you brought home. And stay as far away from ladyboys as you can. They are mostly unstable.

  8. "Furthermore, foreigners who enter the Kingdom under this Tourist Visa Exemption Scheme may re-enter and stay in Thailand for a cumulative duration of stay of

not exceeding 90 days within any 6-month period from the date of first entry."

    Hi guys,

What are the best ways around this? Will I just be turned away at the airport? My wife and I bought a condo this year, but we might be too young for a retirement visa.

I had the same scenario. But they of course said the money was for admin assistance at Immigration, attendance records...etc etc. Quite a scam. I told them to shove it.

Did you think the extra money was going to bribe immigration officers or the school was just squeezing you?

  10. I went to a well known Thai language school to inquire about taking Thai language classes and getting a one year education visa. I was quoted a price for the one year visa and the classes.

In addition, I was told that every three months, that I would need to give the school my passport and 5000 baht, and that they would pay 1900 baht for the three month visa update

and a 3000 baht bribe to immigration.

Obviously I was put off by this. Is this a scam or is this really how the education visa works?

Save your money on internet providers, we get by just fine with 50/10mbps with 3BB for 590THB/m.

For foreign TV streaming what you need is a premium IPTV service provider that has load balancing for number of subscribers. The free services don't work. That said I don't think Flawless premium service does a great job in this respect all the time as I get buffer with them on high demand streams. Most stuff from the US should be fine tho as lower demand for that. I expect this coming weekends ppv boxing from US will be unwatchable on Flawless as that has more global appeal?

How does a premium IPTV provider work with MLB.com? And which provider?

  12. We just moved into our new apartment and currently do not have internet. My wife and I enjoy watching sports games from the US, and we want to get an Internet connection that is fast enough to be able to watch games uninterrupted.

We want to find what would be considered the best internet provider with the best service, and a good deal.

We were quoted 15,000 baht for a year for 200MB/second download speed and 100MB/second upload speed by 3bb company. The lower priced package is 7000 baht for a year for 30MB/second download and 10MB/second upload.

Is this a good company? Is the price fair? Should I buy the

15,000 baht package or would the 7000 baht package be good enough to watch games?
