Before I came here two years ago from Australia, I applied for a Retirement Visa
from the Thai Embassy in Canberra (no Thai services now in Perth).
One of the things required in the package of documents to Canberra, was
a police background check which I enclosed.
Unfortunately I forgot something else (bank records from memory) and
the package was returned to me with...
"Due to time constraints, we suggest you enter Thailand on a tourist visa and change to
a Retirement Visa once there".
I did as suggested but when applying in Phuket, less paperwork was needed and
the police check was now not required!?

My question is a little different. I prove income with a Stat Dec from the Aussie Embassy.
(#4 is a stat dec rather than a pension saying I bring in 70,000Bht per month.
One time however they wanted my SCB Bank statements I guess to see if I had in fact bought in
the funds I said I would. They said just jump in a TukTuk and go to the bank and get them.
At the bank they inform me you can only get statements at your home branch which
for me is Surin Beach!
My question is should I take bank statements this time?
t
1. APPLICATION FORM (TM7)

Anyway, I don't really care about them anyway b/c I wouldn't get serious with a girl that has a free pass to have sex with anyone she wants provided he pays her money.
I bet you are under 40yo and think these women are "prostitutes", so technically correct, "someone who exchanges money for sexual favours"
But as a guy over 50yo twice married and who has lived in multiple countries. There is *always* a financial aspect in every relationship, and my ex-wives got far more
that any bar girl, they just got it in a lump sum ; )
Many many many of my "dates" in Aus gave/had/enjoyed sex with me for a nice dinner and/or a trinket or two.
In Aus, you may be right, as we have "social security" and if you have no money the Govt provides quite enough to live etc. Here you can starve if no job/man/family.
Also, many Western hookers have drug addiction problems HIV etc. Here you will find 90% are single mothers with a kid or two with mum
in Issan (etc) The father "smoked and drank and never came home at all" She sleeps with you "thinking of the King" so she can send almost all of it back to raise the kid.
I find many of the girls occupy "the moral high ground" compared to Mr Judgmental, who likes/uses the goods, but does not value them due to how they were
made.

Guy far right is a genius cop, wears a t-shirt in English so looks more "under cover", but has it mis-spelled
"If i Fails Right Do It!"
so as not to seem too slick, or give away that he can in fact read/understand English.
Pure genius, there could be no other explanation ; )

I bought a brand new Ford Escape SE http://www.ford.com/suvs/escape/ for that amount.
The cars you mention are useless at times in Phuket due to flooding etc. Only 2.4L
so a bit gutless, but other than that, I am very happy with it. My previous car in Aus was a Merc 500SL
so I am even more happily surprised ; )

Before the Taliban, Afghanistan produced 600 Tons of Heroin per annum. The Taliban reduced it to about one ton per annum.
The Yanks go in, and now, last year, they produced 800 tons. Some cynics say "mission accomplished"!

So you start a new thread to point fingers at another poster on another thread?
Instead of quoting someone from another thread it would have been better just to start a new thread with what your ideals are not criticize someone else.
PS I read your book years ago, absolute rubbish but the theories that you stole are pretty good. Not one of your lessons was original nor innovative.
I do agree that making a lesson interesting is important for all learners but you don't have to play "Bingo" you could actually do an activity that has real study skills and life skills involved so that students are learning more than language.
Sorry my stuff did not impress you, if only I had a Masters in Education, maybe my life would have had some worth. Oh well, I will try to cope
having retired here*Edited out* at 49yo, and will try and not get bitter like you seem to be ; )
Ian
PS Sorry if I did not meet your forum using expectations, I tried to reply to your post but it said "thread closed", so I thought I did
start a new thread!? Unfortunately I have better things to do than post 823 times like you. I have a life!!

It seems this thread is closed but I wanted to respond to this reply so I started a new one...

Finally, there are no bigger chuckleheads than the guys that think they know all about teaching, "teachers". They read a book about child psychology and a few about education. Have a year of experience...before a go nowhere, hapless and failed English or other ridiculous major - now transformed into Thai English TEACHER! Yes, they never took an education class at home, never thought of being a teacher or instructor. No home country certifications, just some shitty tefl/celta whatever...teacher! No, you are not a teacher. Can you speak Thai? You are not a Thai teacher. Finally, do you even have a Thai lic? You are not a teacher. When you get a certification from home or a Masters in Education then and only then are you a teacher.
====
It seems to me the person above is the one that thinks he knows all about English teaching", and I disagree with some of the things he says you need to be/have, to be a good ELS (English as a Second Language) teacher.
1) You do not need to speak Thai. In fact in Japan you can be fired for speaking Japanese in an ESL class. They want students to hear good English, not shitty Thai. I agree that a few words of "their language" can be really useful if they REALLY can't understand you, but only if you have tried everything else before you do, like acting out what you want, or getting a native Thai speaker to explain.
2) How does anyone get experience, other than being a pretty bad teacher, and then turning in to a good one from experience/practice?
3) It is not rocket science and it really is more about how much one wants to get good. Also, until University level you often need to be an entertainer. Hard core grammar can be learned from books, but only a good teacher can make learning English fun.
'
4) This is the worst bit... "No home country certifications, just some shitty tefl/celta whatever...teacher! No, you are not a teacher."
What is wrong with a TEFL certificate you got in your home country (or elsewhere)? It is more than most have, and you are just a snob if you think you need a "Masters in Education". They are for those that want to write the shitty/boring grammar textbooks!
I taught English in Japan for 15 years. Junior High School, High School, Technical College, housewives and businessmen, all without any teaching qualifications. The only groups I did not teach were Kindergarten and University.
I only had a BA in finance. However after 5 years I wrote "Edutainment - How to Teach English with Fun and Games!" included my best 17 lessons. Also, when the Internet became useful I made *Edited out*
If they like you, each year you try to leave they say, "more money, less hours, for one more year please?", and that is how you get trapped teaching ESL English for years more than you planned, but is that so bad?
My advice would be to get the best English teaching job you can, give it your best, and if you like it you will do fine. If you don't like it, find something else. Humans are only pretty good at things they enjoy doing. Also, if students are under about 16yo they are still children, and children LOVE to play games, and learn best if everything is a game (has a score or a prize etc). I could teach English numbers in 25% of the time it usually took, by playing Bingo at the end of each class, rather than drilling them on the board. You will be shocked how much a kid will try, if they can possibly win a small Aussie coin or a crappy used stamp!
Above all, have fun, life is too short to do ANYTHING you hate ; )
Cheers,
NS

They are pretty much a scam in some ways. At the start you could have "contact owner for availability", and just be a paid member for those leads.
Now they won't divulge the clients real email address, and make you communicate only thru them, and they now insist on taking the money!
Before you could charge the client via Paypal, but now they take the money from the guest/client, and then pay you only when the guest arrives! This way they often have the guests money for months before you get paid. Agoda is the worst, they promote that they get you (the guest) up to 70% off normal rates! But how could they? Say the room/apartment is $100per night, how can they get it for you for $30? This is how, the renter (me) puts highly inflated rates on my own website of say $200 per night (when really it is/was $100) and then you see Agoda's rate of $100 and seems like 50% off! But really they got you the normal rate. Also, the more you "give" Agoda, the higher you are in their listings. At one time we did give them a true 15% off normal rates, but those that gave them say 20% off were put much higher in their listings (for Phuket), and if you gave them 25% off you were listed higher still!
I own/promote http://www.BaanPuriPhuket.com/ , with my own website and have very good reviews at Trip Advisor, but due to them
taking the money, and not letting you deal direct with the guest, I get few bookings that way anymore.
Your own website promoted on Google Adwords is probably the best, if you want to have your true rates on the site and not be part of the
"discounted rates" scam.
Good luck!

Only in America, some amendment giving the right to "bare arms", I am surprised the NRA did not say "guns don't kill people, people kill people" or "it should have been a bazooka", or "you can't have too much fire power" etc. They are insane. Guns accident deaths in US last year 8,000, in UK 36, and still the NRA want to teach 9yo girls to shoot machine guns!? How many 6yo shooting their 4yo brother with daddy's gun do we need until this insanity stops? Having a gun in the house, does not decrease your chances of being robbed, but increases tenfold the chances of a family member being shot.
I long for the days when in Australia, the cops yelled "stop, or I will yell stop again!", rather than now in America (especially if black)
where the cops yell "BANG,BANG BANG stop Police!"

Far more Aussies visit Bali than anywhere else, so it is a worry that Thailand is #1. I am guessing it is drug OD's, (hard to get Heroin etc
in Indonesia, but easy to get here.)
Also, Thailand is 3rd worst in the world for traffic deaths http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_traffic-related_death_rate
In Phuket 80% of fatalities are scooter Vs bigger vehicle.
Add them together and I think that is why.

At 53yo I have been involved with the mafia taxis twice, once it actually ended up in a fist fight!
The first time, I rent out a couple of apartments here, <removed>, for 8 years we used the
taxis from the illegal taxi stand built on our land out the front. One day a guest said "we can't use the taxis out the front,
they don't speak English and we insist on a child seat for our baby and they don't have one." My girlfriend at the time said
"no problem, I will take you in our Ford SUV, we have a baby seat".
About 30 minutes later I get a call from reception saying "there is someone to see you here". I went to reception
and there were five thugs all screaming at me in Thai. After a couple of minutes we worked out that they were saying
we can't take guests in our car, and trying to drag me outside! I knocked their hands from my shirt, explained three
times that it was a special case as they did not have a baby seat etc. They kept screaming, one yelled "NO, fuck you!"
At that point I gave them the middle finger and walked off. The next morning and a few mornings after that, there was
a thug standing at our car giving me a dirty look, as if to say we know where you live and where you park.
At one point in the altercation I said I was going to call the police and they laughed, and said the police were
"their friends" and said go ahead. I can not express how happy I was when 95 of them around Surin were arrested by the Army and
their horrible illegal taxi stands were demolished.
The second time was in Karon Bch, I thought I maybe touched a vehicle double parked, when a scooter came at me from the right.
I pulled over (first mistake) and their was a tiny bit of white paint from my SUV on a black 4x4.
Long story short, it escalated into an actual fistfight with me eventually on my knees with five of them throwing punches
and me blocking. We ended up at the Karon Police station, and at first the cop listened very impartially with no sympathy
to both sides. But later he called me into an empty room and said "that corner has many cameras, I have looked at the film
and everything you said was true and everything they said was lies, so maybe you could send some to jail, but do you
want mafia enemies outside jail?" (they would not let me see the video)
He made it pretty clear it was smarter to let it go. I got the picture, but still they hit me 2,000Bht for something I could
not quite understand. Obviously I was not impressed! However, I found out later that the Army arrested the Mayor of Karon for
"protecting the mafia taxi drivers for years"! I never thought I would see justice, and even said "it will take the Army to fix this"
but was sure they never would, and still to my amazement, that is exactly what has transpired!
Wonders will never cease! TIT

What amazes me about all this, is that the problem has been SOLVED all around the world for years, the answer is
TAXI METERS!! They have them in Bangkok and Pattaya, and EVERY other city I have ever visited!
You get in a taxi, there is a set flag-fall for the first set distance, and then an amount per kilometer after that!
I have been saying this for years, but apparently up until now, if you were a Thai politician in Phuket, you could
get killed for using the "M" word! Now we have the Army, all taxi should have a meter, problem solved.
(as for taxi stands, they too are set by the Govt, a good example would be the one in front of Big C in Kamala)

Especially now that the [National Council for Peace and Order] is governing the country, everyone has to behave well, he added.
Should read
Only now that the [National Council for Peace and Order] is governing the country, everyone has to behave well, he added.
I had a fight with mafia taxi drivers and they laughed when I said I will call the police, but they weren't laughing when the Army
demolished their illegal taxi stand, but I was ; o )
