I am still curious about how this country can tax income that is earned and deposited overseas? If it is earned in another country then their respective banks would be reporting it to the local tax. But they can only do that because you signed releases to allow it when opening the account. Thailand banks may have new rules to make you sign a release so they can gain this information. But what about older accounts? Would anyone actually sign something new to allow them this authorization? None of my Thailand banks have my tax or income information other than receiving wire transfers from another country. If they request blanket permission to access my banks private information I would refuse and take my money from their bank. If they request access to my tax information from abroad I would not be able to give it since I never file taxes there. Un-taxable income is not required to file a tax return. So there is no record for them to check anyway.
Given the really bad security issues dealing with banks leaking your personal information make me think it is not a good idea to provide banks with data from my country.
Does anyone else feel there may be risks in giving more information to the banks in Thailand than is absolutely necessary or to the government about the money we have or make outside of Thailand?

Don't they mean only 15 million... that number should be a lot higher. i would think that many who do not file taxes or have their names and incomes on record are a lot more than this 15 million

Thailand’s prolonged political crisis and poor management of the economy over the past few decades have taken a huge toll on the country’s growth.
The Thai economy grew just 1.5 per cent in the first quarter of this year after having expanded 1.7 per cent in the fourth quarter of last year and 1.9 per cent for the full year in 2023, according to state-owned think-tank National Economic and Social Development Council.
The country has been bogged down by sluggish growth for decades since the 1997 financial crisis.
How can this be when they had such such good leaders? Are they now trying to tell us the opposite?

What a joke. for 12 years I have been reading about what monks do when no-one is looking and even seen it with my own eyes. Drugs, sex with married women, alcohol, murder, incest, child-sex or porn, theft, and many other crimes regularly. You see them walking around looking like the only live on the food sustenance until you see the 80,000 baht IPhone or Ipad they pull out. When will Thais realize that more than a few monks are not following Buddhism's teachings? This article does not surprise me. Nor does it show Buddhism in a good light. Perhaps I need to go see that 8 year old kid who is claiming to be a reincarnation of Buddha with mystical powers to see what has happened to the real Buddhism?

Thanks for your reply. 🙏 I saw that there were two options and one involved a video interview with a representative. The other was self-service. I'll get my documents in order, photograph them and give it a go.
The user name and pw was already a two-factor authentication as I had to get a code sent to my email. This is not a security improvement from my perspective... it's merely an additional hoop to jump through. 🤷♂️
yeah, it does not really make sense adding so much security since you can not obtain money through that website.

That goes all the way up to government level, where often things are not properly thought through.
Wow you are not kidding. Wife works in a government office. The office supervisor is there today crying and will be going to file a police report because she just sent 80,000 baht to someone claiming to be the bank manager at her bank. Scammed so easily simply by telling her that there was an error and she needed to send the money to fix it. This is a Government worker who manages payouts millions of baht to other government workers. No checking authenticity of the bank and the manager. No checking the account to see if there was really a problem.. Just a phone call and off her money goes without thought

Their committee that was set up to capture and relocate those monkeys seems to have stopped. One article in the news about 2 months ago hailing this and the capture between 20 to 30 monkeys. But then nothing. One would think it would not be difficult to capture more quickly given the monkeys dependence on food from the temple and in the city.

Don't think he will need to prepare much except maybe memorizing what to say that is being told to him. He is protected now with Thaksin pulling the strings.

Ever since I met her 8 years ago she has said she owns land in Chiang Mai. I thought this is so amusing I never talked about it much. She paid rent for the land for years and finally set up a date to go and see it. We booked flight tickets and the day before the owner cancelled the trip. I am rolling on the floor with laughter but I have conform to society so I say ''Oh no.. really?!!! I feel sad.''
The owner then wants to meet at a nearby shopping mall. When they meet the owner has the audacity to say there is no land. She says she is sorry and she will pay us back month by month. We haven't had a single payment.
We have paid for her lifestyle for the past decade and she just says there is no land but she will pay us back. Amazing.
How about you? Do you pay for land hundreds of miles away that you have never seen?
Why didn't you file a police report?
Can not see how you found all of that funny though. A gf of 8 years would be considered your wife anyway. Also it sounds as if you were the one scammed simply because she must have been using your money to pay for the uhh (land).

No more than TUG did with the first comment posted.
Even if he is guilty, the Prez managed to escape becoming involved with it even though it was proven he met the investors with his son personally and was in speakerphone talks with them making deals. This case can not go away simply because of the publicity and need to continue to keep Biden out of it. However, I seriously doubt there will be any conviction. It is a show now made to pacify the voters for Biden.

Uh oh.. perhaps someone forgot to send those much needed envelopes.
Why do they pick on these workers? No Thai in Chonburi would do such for for so little pay.
There are much bigger fish they could be catching right there in the open selling themselves or services out in the open. The last time I walked down walking street i was approached by several foreigners showing cards with pricing for sex shows in Non-specific bars. They were doing it in the middle of the street with the small police stand within 50 meters.

When i opened mine with SSA i did not have a US number. I used ID ME. They will give you an option to get some codes to use for log in. At first i thought it would be a pain and difficult but after several times using it I feel it is convenient. Just make sure you store codes in a hidden folder if keeping them in your PC. You can copy and paste them easily enough.

I'm thinking it might be the capacitor .....
Can I buy another capacitor at Amorn or somewhere of similar rating and replace it ? I will cut the wires and join them with small spring connectors because it's too hard to remove them from inside the motor winding.
why not just take it to a shop that does this.. It will be cheap enough and not waste your time waiting for delivery and doing it yourself. My fan also had the same problem but it was not the capacitor. You may find you are wrong about the problem and change that only to find it still does not work. The cost to fix my industrial sized fan was only 150 baht. Are you so cheap you can not just let a professional fix it?

I've been reading through old US Passport Renewal threads and obviously the process is not fun. But unfortunately this year is the year I need to do it and this is the time I need to do it. So onward with questions as what looks to be a straightforward process, given what I'm reading in pass threads, is anything but intuitive. I'd like to get the application filled out and mailed out by next week.
So I'll start the questions:
------------------------------------------------------------------------
I read the paying the $130 application fee via Pay.gov does not work here in Thailand.
I've just done a test run to see if Thailand shows up or not. It seems to show (see screenshot). So has anyone who has done a renewal recently been able to successfully submit this form?
(I'm not punching it in yet and paying as I want to see what other surprises I run into while filling out the application).
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Regarding pictures:
I had US Passport pictures made today in Chiang Mai. Got them home and measured them. They are suppose to be:The correct size of a passport photo is:
2 x 2 inches (51 x 51 mm)
Head must be between 1 -1 3/8 inches (25 - 35 mm) from the bottom of the chin to the top of the head
Mine are
2.25 x 2.25 inches
Head is 1 1/2 from the bottom of the chin to the top of the head
Obviously the picture I received do not fit the requirements. So - off to a different photo store to try again tomorrow.
I knew this was going to be an issue. No surprises at all - it is an issue. How do you go to a place that says they understand how to correct print US passport photos - and then they botch it?😕 Welcome to US Passport Renewal Hell.
I've checked the US Passport picture that I had made in 2015 (yeah, I still have it). Measured the photo and it is exactly the correct measurements.
Tomorrow I will check to make sure that photos have the correct measurement before leaving the shop - and - I won't be using the place I had today's photos made again. And I'll take the "good" passport photo with the "bad" one for comparison, and bring a tape measure too boot.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Regarding the Thailand Post Courier Pass Back envelope fee ฿100 THB:
What forms of payment does this application take. I read another post where someone could not get the application to accept a payment.
So what sort of payments are accepted.Right at the moment I can't find out because - I can't create an account.
Surprise, surprise, surprise - Welcome to US Passport Renewal Hell. 🙄I recently did 3 passport renewals all by mail. You seem to either not be able to read or perhaps unable to interpret what you read. They post photos or how to make payment. How to do the mail.
You can get a bank draft to send payment. They show photos of it and the banks you can use. Then you can get a prepaid envelope if i remember correctly to have them mail it back.

To answer the original question -
(From another article on AN today)
Yeah, but think it was B.S. Even if you are strapped to a bed you can still be allowed on an airplane. My guess is that story was just some drivel Thaiger made to make you sympathize with them and help an ongoing gofundme or worse. I know for sure anyone can walk into a clinic and get a doctors release to fly if offering the doctor money.

Have fun there Bob.. Last time I was there i saw many very old men like you with 18 year old wives following behind their old husbands and although not a single one looked happy. They were dressed to the 9. I am sure you too can find one happy to spend your money and lay with you (maybe not so happy) there

yeah, i am suspecting this also. As well as the woman and her husband failing to plan their future as retired. They have been in Thailand a very long time. When they arrived the THB was getting them almost the same as it is now. But the cost of living was 1/4 of what it is now. I wonder why they did not plan with savings for their futures, knowing their incomes would stay the same. Everyone knows the cost to live increases yearly. Also, when they saw their money dwindling, why did they wait until now to try to leave? Based on the article they have been told by several doctors now that she is unfit to fly. If they were already struggling before, why wait until there is nothing and she is unable to leave by plane?

What's the point of asking for ID if you're jut going to believe that someone is someone who they are not?
Do you really think they even bothered to look at it? Their eyes were surely on the focus if the money being spent rather than if the buyer was legitimate.

i am curious if the Thaiger has this policy in their website. Or if the moderators are going to far in this. As for the comments i am replying to in the quote. I expect mine will also be deleted or edited.
200 baht for a quicky on the side of the road. Can not get any cheaper than that. I would guess this was not their first rodeo. I am curious though based on the photos provided so generously. Does they insinuate there are many women homeless ready to have sex with someone for so little money? 2 women laying there looking like they are ready for whatever comes by. Hmm... What was the address again to find them?

The police are yet to determine the charges against Bas, but they intend to investigate whether he possesses legal ownership of the exotic animals featured in his show.
Why is this? Clearly it is assault with intent to harm.. Why they can not determine this man is a menace to society and violent and attacked someone physically causing harm. Instead they should have charged and arrested the Thai man. If a foreigner had done that he would have been arrested. When will the 2 tiered justice end. Throwing money is an insult to Thai. But it is not violent and does not cause harm and injuries.

Hi all. I suffered a osteoporotic compression fracture in my thoracic spine last year. Recently I had a new incident where I feel a lot of pain in the back again. This was followed by an MRI which doesn't show a new fracture, but the compression had gotten worse from the last scan one year ago. I was not impressed by the doctor and would like another specialist to take a look at the MRIs and offer advice. Does anyone have any doctor to recommend for this situation?
I would also like to ask if somebody has any recommendation for good physiotherapists to help with muscle spasms in the thoracic area (rhomboid and scapula strained due to kyphosis). So far doctors have been very reluctant to recommend me one and it actually seems pretty hard to find someone with knowledge of this particular situation.
This is in Bangkok by the way.
Thank you
I would suggest you go to Siriraj hospital. They actually took care of my back very good and I have had multiple procedures there. They imported a doctor from Australia when i needed laser surgery to sever some nerves in my back. Also, they have a pain management center specifically for the back. I was getting special massage therapy and heat therapy on my back at the hospital for several months.
Their cost is not as much as private hospitals also. But they have very professional doctors and service being the Kings hospital. If you want to go in the evenings they also utilize the hospital next door which is private but not as costly.
Thailand to tax residents’ foreign income irrespective of remittance
in Thailand News
Posted
Also, if we are tax paying foreigners in Thailand why then do we have to pay double or triple for things just because we are foreigners? They should allow us the privilege to pay the same as Thai by showing a tax number or long term visa. Tourists can pay the double standards and be taxed accordingly for their purchases.
It appears the government is trying to punish those of us living here, married here with families, or working here with yet another double standard. The country coffers must be drying up and this is their way to refill it.
There are 2 other countries that have the taxation for income in and outside their countries. But they do not make you pay additional charges simply because you are a foreigner. Every person in the country is charged the same for things and services.
