  1. It's all about me, me, me!!!

Meanwhile in my rural village in Isaan things are as normal as ever. Not spied any curtain twitching yet and if Nursey wants to check my temperature and know where I've been for the past few weeks I'd be more than happy to let him/her (any other gender pronoun he/her/it would like to be known by) know. It's nice to know they care lol.

  2. What a bunch headless chickens flapping around because of weather patterns. Sure everyone should do their bit where they can but human activity never caused climate change and ice ages in the past. It's mostly linked to that big, hot, yellow thing up in the sky, nevermind asteroid impacts and volcanos. Polar bear numbers are up, Al Gore was wrong so It's carry on as usual for me☀️☀️☀️

Never seen the last one before. How do you prove your retired?

Not hard. Have a pension income letter, show funds coming in every month and Bingo. I retired from the military aged 42 and have the pension to prove it. The t's&c's of my Non O extension based on retirement are that I sign to accept I'm inelligable for employment in Thailand. Seems to work, at least for me????

  4. Without enough funds retiring can be miserable so what's the excuse for so many miserable types that have plenty? The answer lies within. I'm coming up to living in Thailand for 8 years and still loving it. A few minor irritations that I suspect is because of douche bags that have scammed the system for years on end (corrupt Thai officials just as guilty). Thailand is still a great country to retire to for those that can adapt and pay their own way.

I feel your pain brother.....a couple of weeks ago we went through a similar routine.  I have learned (most of the time) to sit quietly and read a book.

On our tenth year appointment they gave my wife a hard time because her middle name wasn't the same on her American passport as her Thai I.D. card.  Seems they changed the rules after ten years......so I sort of blew a gasket and said quite loudly "We've been coming here for ten years and NOW they want you to do WHAT??  She gave me the evil eye and I went back to my book, but fixing the "problem" required two trips to Bangkok.....one she went by herself and one we paid another person to run the errand for her.....absolutely unnecessary.

Another time after we had lived here for several years she came back from the desk she was at and said she had to go to the Tessabaan to certify my yellow book or something.......she told me she would go herself, which surprised the hell out of me because she hates to drive in Hua Hin.......obviously didn't want to listen to my whining and bitching in the car.....

What gets me so riled up is we are the ones that make sure we follow all the rules and take their crap like a bunch of sheep, while the people they really should be after are the ones that spend years avoiding their duty to show up at all.  That and the fact that you can go one time and it takes just a couple of minutes and you're done......then the next time it's some crap they never wanted before and you start sweating "is this the time it's something so bad I have to move out of the country?"

What has her passport got to do with anything? None of their business but makes for a good whine on your part.

This is confusing. Deposited here in Thailand? No!! Deposited TO a bank in Thailand FROM outside of Thailand, presumably overseas (as stated in the police order)

Precisely, income for a retirement extension has to be deposited from overseas. Employment within Thailand is strictly prohibited. I guess some foreign people have a problem understanding and/or following the rules. Maybe there are a couple of investors that play the SETV and receive dividends but judging by the response of the moaning minnies that can't, won't or don't want to trust a Thai bank with their money then enjoy wasting it on an agent and hope that dodgy visa you get with the one day 800,000 baht deposit isn't checked by a competent police officer.

I have a Bangkok Bank FCD Account. Costs me nothing to transfer money into from my UK Barclays Bank account. A 0.5% transfer fee charge is payable to the Bangkok Bank (200 baht minimum, 500 baht maximum) and the funds sit in GBP until I transfer it into baht. The bank uses the Buying TT Rate which is very competetive. I've compared this method with a friend that uses Transferwise and it wins everytime (about 40 satang to the £ loss). Another advantage is this account can be used for the seasoning method.

Congratulations to TI for changing a system that was 99% honest into one that will most likely team with corruption.  Also, US expats using this system should be warned that deposits and withdrawals in their foreign bank accounts in excess of US$10,000 could trigger OFAC and FBAR scrutiny.  Maybe even AMLO?

Using agents are an expedient option but one that could unintended consequences for you -- not the agent.

    Land of the free...not lol

Which begs the question, how long will each Immigration office accept this documentation? Through January 2019, through March 31, 2019, through June 30, 2019?

Understood, but then how does just keeping a lump sum of 800,000 in an account year-in, year-out show as having necessary funds? Do you have to spend this fully over -15 to -3 months, then replenish it?

It seems like many people just keep 800,000 parked for years, and then live off other funds, which may be more, or less than, 65,000 per month.

My plan is to park 800,000, but am worried that Immigration will want to see that account used for living expenses.

An immigration officer will want to see regular funds deposited from outside Thailand to show a couple of things but the main one being that you aren't living off illegal earnings in Thailand. Of course you could be on a marriage extension living off a Thai spousal income or if you are working illegally have a separate bank account that you could keep private. I guess no system is fool proof.

  9. So refreshing to see a nation's Immigration Bureau doing things properly in the interests of its own citizen's. When they prosecute corrupt agencies and IO's then that will convince me they are deadly serious. What's the big deal having the finances in the bank for the 2/3 months prior to application? Been doing it for the past 6 years, no problem. If it's a problem then these people shouldn't be here. It really isn't Thailand's concern. For those that have been supporting families by breaking the law then it looks like they will have to stump up the cash or go and find work.
