  1. So only one side of the conversation needs to be a paid up member for both sides to be able to read and send emails and chat?

    Funny story related to this type of thing;

11 years ago I was recommended by a friend to the then popular site "match dot com". I wasn't looking for anything serious and just curious if there was anyone nice on their from Chiangmai because I was coming over in a couple months time for a holiday.

I saw quite a few on there and from memory I'd paid a fee that allowed contact with girls for 30 days or something like that and had contacted several which at the time I noticed used their site username/nickname appended by "@hotmail.com". Anyway my membership had just expired by one day when I spotted this profile of a really lovely lady that I felt like I wanted to make contact with. On the off chance that it might work,. I sent an email to her "[email protected]" and the next day saw her show up in my chat list on hotmail chat.

Eureka,.. so we chatted a little and sent a couple of emails. I then asked her would she like to meet when I came to Chiangmai 10 days later and she said OK and gave me her mobile number.

Here's how the story ends: I went to Chiangmai and we met and she was just gorgeous. A really delightful lady with a good job and uni degree (not a bar girl) and she was smart and had self respect.

We hit it off great and became friends but nothing romantic between us despite there being a mutual attraction. We kept in touch on and off for a year and then something changed in her personal life and she was talking about making a fresh start and maybe going abroad to work. We talked about it a lot and then I told her that I thought I was falling in love with her and had strong feelings for her and wanted to know how she felt about me.

She told me she had the same feelings too. So over the next 4 or 5 weeks we talked daily on the phone and by SMS etc and the feelings intensified. I then came to see her about 6 weeks later and we got engaged. 4 months later we got married.

That was 10 years ago and now we are happily married living in Chiangmai and have 3 lovely sons.

A meeting and a marriage made in heaven it was because I couldn't have ever constructed anything like this in my wildest dreams!

Best wishes to you for a happy future ;-)

  2. It's such a shame that these things happen, and anyone who has been to Phi Phi knows just how choppy the waters can get there, and some of the boat drivers think that they can get through anything. Hope she has a speedy recovery and glad to see that she will be back in the future !

I think "most" not "some" of the drivers think that its fun and macho to tackle the choppy seas.

Little dick syndrome combined with low IQ and there you have the perfect qualifications for a Phuket/Pattaya speed boat captain!

PS... a speedy recovery to the lovely Swedish lady and her husband ;-)

  3. So special laws for Indians ?

He was warned like all foregners .

Thai leaders/voters were not arrested ,yet as the Police and government stated it may exacerbate the tensions.

If this guy was so well respected/connected it could not happen ,I hope his supporters have deep pockets.Good riddance to law breakers they only make lifeharder for us who play by the rules, the foreign drug dealers pimps boiler room scammers,if you can't do the time don't do the crime,I am minded the authorities are sufficently corrupt that he'll pay off and shut up if he knows what's good for him ,Lord Buddha was Nepalese and Indians are pretty near the bottom in Thai thinking as anyone familiar with local "nicknames" jek,kek and falang will know..

50 years here with a Thai family and he's still a foreigner? Wake up and smell the coffee Jack,... you're as bad as the lynching mob in calling for him to hang!

Great to see that you are a "play by the rules" kinda guy,... what would the world do without such pillars of virtue such as you?

  4. just bring some nice pastry or something... that is acceptable and they always can pass it on to their boss or share with collegues

I agree,.. this is something my (Thai) wife taught me. If you tip too much you're a briber and complicit in bringing shame to that person and their office/business,.. and if too low you're a cheap Charlie and offer insult anyway.

Best to buy them a 200 baht tin of biscuits or pastry or whatever and offer it as a genuine gift of gratitude and respect,.. it will always be respectfully received with a wai!

  5. A written agreement is considered proof by Thai law and is often necessary for laws to be enforcable. For such a simple 'gentlemen's agreement' as you describe this would be useful if you ever were forced to take things to court.

Yes,.. but one very important thing needs to be taken into consideration here and that is "interpretation" and "genuine consent". If the purchaser can plead that he didn't fully understand the terms or meaning of the contract he could thereby claim that he did not give genuine consent to the contract and that my friend would place you on a sticky wicket.

Most Thai judges don't have a very good command of English and furthermore it is a "Thai" judicial system and not a "Thai system that is bound to foreign sympathy". I think you could find that if you went to a Thai court with a contract written in English then the question could be raised as to "why" when you should have had it written in both languages and carefully edited for accuracy and relevance otherwise you might find it being worth less than the paper it was written on!

  6. The Australia option is probably the safest in terms of peace of mind, security and support (govt and family) but the Chiangmai option sounds good too.

I am an Aussie expat guy married to a Thai lady. We have been living in CM for 7 years and love it here. We have 3 boys (8, 6 & 3), The eldest was born in Chiangmai Ram which was great but a bit expensive.

His 2 brothers born at Rajavet Hospital in the city opposite Sheraton Holiday Inn. What a great hospital it is. Great doctors and staff and the prices about one third of RAM. All 3 by Cesarean section and masterfully delivered.

The rooms were great and just like staying in a condo.

Wishing you all the best in your choices and future.

If you do decide on the CM option send me a PM and we'll offer you whatever support we can ;-)

  7. OK,.. I'm going to be honest now.

I think we should just forgive Yingluck everything and keep her on as PM.

I miss seeing her pic in the news. That lovely and sweet smiling face which is a far sight better than all the other ugly shots of Suthep and all the other ugly adversaries.

She was interesting and kind of sweet and entertaining. It was fun commenting on her shopping sprees and absences from parliament.

I don't think she meant any real harm. Come on Thailand,... let's welcome her back with open arms and just put an end to all of this aggressive nonsense ;-)

  8. Go and file a case with the Consumer Protection Tribunal at your local courthouse. They will help.

We had a similar situation with a kitchen cabinet maker/installer. Waited months and got nothing but empty promises. Finally the guy said "oh all finished,.. just waiting paint to dry" then more excuses until I insisted "just put them on a truck and deliver them". They turned up (75% of them) half finished, glue all over them... woeful. We told the guy to take them away and cancelled the contract. Now 9 months later we are negotiating through the CPT to get 50% of our deposit back (if we're lucky).

It got worse from there.... we found another custom furniture guy and even went to visit his impressive factory. We ordered "teak veneer" custom cabinets which eventually turned up and looked great. There were issues with the finish that needed attending to by his painters a couple of times. Then my wife spilled water on the floor which washed up against the kickboards (finished in the teak "veneer") and within a couple of days the "veneer" started to bubble. Turned out that the veneer was a paper thin laminate and just peeled off like a sticker.

CONNED AGAIN!! The very thing we ordered for (wet area protection) was completely ignored. The design and construction was great,... looked great too but we ended up being ripped off and had paid for paper thin laminated ply and hardwood cabinets!

    Amazing Thailand!

    Live and learn!
