  1. Sorry to open up this topic again but I wanted to know if I will need a letter of consent written by our child's mother to travel if I am married to the mother and the child is legit, I'm the father on the birth certificate.

    Thanks for any help.

You could be asked for the letter. Best to have it in case they do ask for it.

Immigration could suspect you have separated from your wife and was taking the child out of the country without her consent.

Thanks Ubonjoe. Is this also the case if the mother will be at the airport to say goodbye?

  2. I've been looking for days now for certain information but can't find it. Tried calling several numbers at Bangkok Immigration too without success.

    I have quite a simple question;

    Holding 'new' UK passport

Have 1 triple tourist visa from UK and have 1 double tourist visa from Savannakhet.

Also have 30 day border run(x2).

My last visa was a border run to Poipet and got 30 days on arrival.

    Due this Friday to renew.

My question; can I go to the immigration office and get a 30 day extension on that 30 day tourist visa on arrival? If not; can I do another border run?

Thanks a lot for any help!

    Cheers

    Dave

  3. Self report/ survey!!! lol One might argue it must be true b/c Thais' are noted for honesty... never lie - smile constantly..... must be true.

Lol, it's funny how some governments keep sponsoring these surveys that make no sense whatsoever. Just like the most beautiful women in the world bs survey.

Found this one the other day

  4. How about this Idea:

Have several people hired and permanently attached to any Jet Ski operation and video tape them from the time they start to the time they finish...every second, every minute, every hour, every day, every week, every month, every year...forever ......if need be.

Low cost video tape monitoring and the means to keep them in check.

However...no matter which way you try to stop or curb the scam it will be corrupted, sooner or later, while the scam will continue.

    Cheers

  5. Can you bribe Tripadvisor to get a better ranking?

You can ask 100's of customers/friends/family members to write a very good review and give 5 stars. That's how it mostly works for cheaters and scammers. Not saying that all top ranked businesses on Tripadvisor do that but I do know of at least a few on Phangan that have got their top ranking that way. You can also pay people to do it of course

  6. Education as a whole has failed globally. Thailand is just a few decades behind in discovering this truth. It's like planning on spending billions on a high speed train system that has been outdated already while other countries are getting ready to build Elon Musks' hyperloop.

Children should be learning yoga, how to breath properly, how to meditate, how to grow veggies and a few of the old school subjects. Their talents should be exploited in a positive way.

Don't most people see that the only thing we do to our kids is brainwash them and make them ready to be slaves in a disgusting system that is purely kept in place to feed the greed of the elite?

How can we send our kids to schools where the only thing they do is kill their imagination, train them to obey and ready them for the 'conveyor belt'?

    Schools are passe!

  7. This article isn't about EFL teaching.

"There are professionally trained teachers from their own countries teaching English here"

Very few at that. Most either teach subject matter in EP, bilingual programs or teach at international schools.

My point is that EFL teachers only really know what is going on with a student from an English speaking perspective. They cannot really comment on the students' education as a whole because they are not involved with cross discipline teaching.

As this article is about Education as a whole and not EFL. You and the other poster seem to be sending this topic off course.

'They cannot really comment on the students' education as a whole'

I think any good teacher can comment on their students education as a whole. It's rather easy to see in any language if a student is bright or not so bright

  8. It's due to neglect - most Thai parents give a toss and have their kids just live alongside like a cat or dog, best if they can drop them at school early and pick them up late so they're out of the way. Great if they go somewhere to a lake, waterfall or river in the afternoon with thier friends, providing some free extra quality time to mom and dad to watch some braindead Thai soaps on the telly while gulping down some Lao Khao mixed with red or green Fanta.

Same goes for aunts, uncles and grandparents who have to bring up the small ones because mom has been impregnated by a useless 15 year old drug addicted punk (who did not and will not achieve anything ever in life despite a wheelie on his pimped-up Honda Click) who fled to another province as soon as the belly showed and mom ended up in some girlie bar in the south...

Let's face it - the majority of Thai parents care just about themselves, kids are a necessary burden because later, as adults, they will provide for their card playing, gambling, alcohol addicted parents who never gave them a hug, or kiss, letting alone teaching them empathy or other human values.

You seem very angry. The majority of Thai parents I know sacrifice a lot to provide for their kids

You seem very condescending jd. Maybe catweazle cares so much that it hurts him to see the amount of neglect going on around him. It always p-issed me off too when I witnessed it. It's very frustrating to see caretakers neglect their kids. It makes you wanna shout.....

Again, this kind of opinion has to do with experience. Where you live, how you live. If one lives in the sticks, among the uneducated non-caring folks it can be exactly as catweazle explained it but if you live in a nice expensive condo you will have a different perspective, more like jd's.

  9. Democracy in Thailand? Never had it, never will!

It doesn't exist anywhere. What we have 'back home' can hardly be called democracy. Being allowed to cast one's vote means absolutely nothing when the choice that we have is to find the lesser of 2 or 3 evils. Once they are voted in they don't give a rats backside about the electorate. It's all a sham and anyone who is awake will have to agree. Elections/democracy were actually invented to keep the masses quiet. Give them the feeling that they can choose and that they have freedom and they will be easier to control. The only system that would make any sense and that we could actually call democratic would be a direct democracy, where people can vote for all new policies/laws/etc

  10. There's some miserable gits on this forum!!

Why? Because they are not impressed by sensational Mirror news? That's like Guardian readers saying that all Mirror readers are idiots. Is everyone supposed to applaud this story even though they don't think anything about it? 555! So let me get this right. If someone says what a great story mate, they get a lot of likes, but if someone says what a load of horse c-rap they are miserable gits.....beautiful logic mate! Cheers for that

    You're welcome, ya miserable git!

5555, another quality Mirror reading retiree. Probably part of the camp that believes everyone with a working brain should be deported and banned

  12. I take my daughter to school each day on a motorcycle. I have on a good helmet,

and of course she has one too. Every day, I see a lot of parents come to pick up

their kids on motorcycles . The parent of course has a helmet, but no helmet for

their child...... In exasperation, sometimes I will point this out by pointing to my

daughter putting her helmet on, and their child having no helmet. Their response

is to look sheepish and drive away.

I am not a fan of a nanny state. If you do not want to wear a helmet, go for it.

But to have a child take the same risk without understanding it is simply cruel.

There needs to be a mandatory helmet law for children that is absolutely enforced.

Meaning if you wish to endanger the life of your child by not bothering to buy him/her

a helmet, you are basically a crap parent. And when you are stopped by the police,

your motorcycle should be seized until you prove you have a helmet for your child.

This is the correct response to this issue. To simply ban all children from being

on a motorcycle a typical knee jerk nonsense response by the government. As well

as an extreme hardship on poor people that do not have a car...

I agree with what you say to a certain extent but please explain how the poor folks(quite a few of them in TH) are going to afford your expensive and safe farang helmet? Not just 1 but several

  13. In reply to DaveinAsia # Post 82 :-

This is alittle bit off topic, but thank you for the statistics, and I have no reason to doubt them. However, just because the Netherlands have less prisoners per 100,000 population does not necessarily mean that crime in itself is proportionately less - only that there are less people in jail.

And your comments re Dutch (football) hooligans are merely your opinion, and I will take that with "a pinch of salt"!:-

    Google

"Holland is one of the most tolerant and liberal countries in the world but has some of the most violent football hooligans. It all started back in the 1970's where one of the earliest confrontations happened when Spurs met Feyenoord in the UEFA Cup."

And as recently as Feb 20 2015:-

Over 6000 drunken Dutch Feyennoord "fans" rampaged through Rome for two days, trashing the Campo de'Fiori and the Piazza di Spagna, in the process knocking over parked motorcycles, throwing bottles, injuring 13 police officers, and urinating everywhere.

The worst damage was to Bernini's Fontana della Barcaccia, which had just been through an 11-month restoration. A 10-centimeter piece was broken from the rim, and there were other chips and scratches from thrown bottles.

The word "barbarians" is being used a lot in Rome newspapers today, and apologies are demanded, but there are also people calling for the heads of politicians who didn't manage to prevent this, especially since the rampage in Campo de'Fiori happened Wednesday night, and the destruction in Piazza di Spagna the following afternoon.

Lol, I guess it's revenge for all those 1000's of stoned Italians who urinate on the Dam Square every summer clap2.gif

  14. And who is it do you think pays for overseas embassies? The beleaguered British taxpayer who has faced cuts in public services, a run down of the NHS and increases in fees and charges, like cost of passports, over here!! Why should we in UK subsidise the requirements of ex pats who've chosen to live overseas. Thailand doesn't subsidise the Royal Thai Consulates overseas. They have to pay their way out of fees they charge in whatever country they are located. Why should UK be different in Thailand? ?

What a joke mate! I suppose you would rather pay for the posh little trips MP's make all year round or their hooker/charlie/champagne parties. Yes, let's spend more taxpayer pounds on corrupted government officials who suck the system dry but cut down on services for ex-pats who have been paying tax for 20 or 30 years. You must be having a laugh
