how much did the sim card cost ?
you can call DTAC and they will tell you all you need to know.
or you can google DTAC pre-paid ....
really? their english phone support is good?

i got a SIM setup at Icon Square the other day and, from what i can gather from the DTAC codes i found online, they got me onto a 5-day unlimited plan. i'm here for two weeks, so i'm going to need to change that.
my past experience was with AIS, where i just put credit against my data allowance and i could check to see the balance at any time.
i don't mind unlimited per se, but i don't know what codes to use to see when it expires. i also don't know what it would cost to get unlimited for two more weeks, or even what the 5-day plan i'm on now costs.
of course, when i "call" the dtac codes i get back thai language messages, so my interpretation of them is limited to say the least :)

i'm planning a two-night stay, busing up from chiang mai this weekend. i've never been before, though i used to live in chiang mai.
i don't mind backpacker digs if they're nice, since i'm keen to meet people.
budget 500thb/night or so. AC and ensuite a must. preferably central. pool would be a big bonus.
thanks everyone :)

thanks folks, bus it is

i've never been. currently driving a rented scooter from a local joint and wondering if it would be up to the task. also if the drive itself is particularly scenic and whether two nights there would be worth the longish journey there and back.

Define 'effective.' If relaxation and stress reduction is the objective, Buddhism has a load of techniques described in the Visuddhi Magga that will have the same effect, for free.
Or check one of several websites that expose TM's 'personal mantras,' which in fact are shared with millions and defined only by gender and age group.
http://tmfree.blogspot.com/2007/01/mantras-part-1.html
Mindfulness has a completely different objective, one that TM can't claim to fulfill. They are completely different contemplative methodologies.
The TM mantras have no intrinsic meaning--they're just a sound. Whether they're shared among practitioners without their knowledge is immaterial.

Hey everyone, I'm going to be staying in Santitam from July 25th to August 5th and am looking for good recommendations. Possibly a rented apartment, but open to a high-end guesthouse as well. Looking to spend 500-1000thb per day.
Thoughts?

Very with Pic Pak. They did everything- they packed it up and it was delivered to my home in USA. cost was fair and nothing damaged
"Very" is the name of the contact?
-
Contact John at Chiang Mai Removals and he will be able to arrange everything from packing to shipping arrangements.
have you worked with this company/person yourself, or know someone who has?
-
i'm moving to canada in a month and am looking for good intl. shippers. we will be shipping about 6 medi/large boxes shortly before we leave ourselves. we're based in Chang Phuak, near the superhighway Tesco.

Call 053122500 press 2 for English enter slip number then the number your calling
Cheers
Legend, thanks Rob. That phone number wasn't even on the slip they gave me... lol. Works great.

picked up a 500thb ZayHi calling "card" (a slip of paper covered in Thai and various numbers) and can't figure out what to do with it.
there's a general number, but it answers in Thai and doesn't give me a code to switch the language to English.
i managed to call through to a central office and they asked me for the 12-digit number on the slip--which doesn't seem to exist!
anyone use one of these before? or know how to switch to english when calling the initial number (02 554 1000)?

I have a mate who's spending several days at Krabi and on Koh Phi Phi and I'd like to help him choose accommodation. I'm not too familiar with that area of Thailand.
He's in his late thirties, looking for relaxation and maybe a bit of nature rather than a party or sex tourism. He's not rich, but will likely spend up to 100$ a night if the place is really special and it's only for 2 or 3 nights.
There's a Nantra resort in the Krabi area that's extremely good value for money and has a (non-white sand) private beach, though it's cut off from everything. He may stay there. Phi Phi is the biggest unknown at the moment but I'll be happy to hear Krabi recommendations as well.

I have a friend visiting who is intent on buying an engagement ring (no stone) while he's here. Any recommendations?

I've left my scooter at the airport many times, sometimes for a week. Most scooters parked there are not locked but I lock mine. Haven't had any problems.
Thanks man, that puts my mind at ease.

I'm planning on leaving my mid-range scooter at the CNX parking lot for four nights while I'm in Bangkok. I've got an early flight.
Anybody been doing this recently?

Buy a new asus zenfone 4, they are awesome for only 3k. Got ours in central festival, my fiancee was so impressed with mine she swapped her iphone 4 for one (and an ipod which are also great value now at 6900).
i'm leaning pretty heavily towards a windows phone...

thanks guys :)

I'd like a new (different) phone and, if i can get one used, it'll probably cost me the same as fixing it.

My iPhone just died and I'd like to buy a second-hand phone to replace it. Anyone know a good location for street vendors or markets that might have a good iPhone/Android/Windows Phone?

Central KSK has a large selection of designer brands; Pierre Cardin, Arrow, Calvin Klein, etc. Many others as well.
Sounds a bit run down, but if it has shops that carry the brands that will do fine.
-
I'm working on a line of my own business shirts and am looking for high-end examples to use as a starting point for my prototypes. I tried Central Festival today but little to no business wear to speak of, save for some cheap stuff that didn't cut it. I've seen high-end brand boutiques in malls in Bangkok but don't know Chiang Mai that well. I'm looking for off-the-rack Diesel, Paul Smith, CK, etc. etc... What I don't want, obviously, is a tailor of any sort or a department store that sells cheap Asian brands.
Any recommendations?

nice, thanks for the co-ordinates

how much should i pay for a scooter tire?
in Chiang Mai
Posted
got a bad puncture on a rented bike and the dude convinced me to pay for the repairs. (i know... i just couldn't be bothered arguing). i had a tire repaired when i lived here but don't remember what it cost, or if it was completely replaced. so rough prices for repairs and replacements would be much appreciated, just in case my guy tries to jack up the fee.
