By meeting the requirements and then applying for it. -
Minimum required to live comfortably at a young retirement age
GarryP replied to PomPolo's topic in General Topics
My "wait times" statement was in reference to her outpatient visits, i.e. for radiotherapy, follow up examinations, etc. That is, she would often have to wait for 3 or 4 hours or longer before getting her number called. -

The treatment my late wife received for cancer at a government hospital was the same as would have been provided at a private hospital, but cost nothing. The difference was that if you want a private room in a gov't hospital you pay extra for that. Also, waiting times are much longer than at private hospitals. However, you should note that Thais are granted free coverage in the hospital which serves the area of their house registration. If, however, their house registration is upcountry and not in the area where they are actually living, they would need to go back there to get a referral to a hospital in the area they live, otherwise they will have to pay for treatment. My wife did this. The exception is in the case of accidents in which case they can be treated at any government hospital. -
Anutin Orders Stricter Measures to Curb Burning and Reduce PM 2.5
GarryP replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
It could help. My father in law hires someone to plough in the stubble in his rice fields, but many simply just burn the stubble. It could be because they can't afford to hire someone to plough in their fields so if each district had tractors for hire at minimum cost/subsidized more farmers may be willing to plough rather than burn. -
Anutin Orders Stricter Measures to Curb Burning and Reduce PM 2.5

A lot of the burning I have seen so far in my neck of the woods, is post harvest burning of dry sugar cane leaves, i.e. the actual harvested sugar cane is not burnt. In addition to that is rice field stubble burning as it is cheaper that hiring someone to plough in the stubble. I've also seen verges being burnt, including by local district offices, the burning of dry grass and other plants on the side of small mountains and between fields (saw a monk doing this very recently). Something needs to be done for sure, but it is not so straightforward. As you say, every year someone in the government parrots on about this but never really does anything. Just repeats the same garbage. -
That will also apply to me, hopefully. Just filed my last tax return last Thursday and received my rebate today, so happy with that. However, now I am retired and will have no earnings in 2025, I assume I will not have to file a tax return for the 2025 tax year. FYI I have not been filing as an expratiate.

One of the staff at the company I used to work at took a photo of me on the beach and linked it with this photo back in 2012. Brings back nice memories.

I submitted my tax form for 2024 online. Baht 60,000 for yourself and the same amount again if you are married and your wife is not working. There are also other things that can be added to exemptions. However, I really don't see how these apply to retirees bringing in a pension from overseas. My filing was done on the basis of working in Thailand, and I have been doing these filings for many years. The whole system for foreign retirees in Thailand needs adjusting (if they are truly going to enforce it) because the tax form currently used is not reallly appropriate. FWIW, I have no idea what I'll have to do next year as I am now retired and all my savings are in Thailand, and won't be drawing a UK pension until 2029. I'm just assuming I won't have to do anything.

I have just checked the Thai FDA website and there are now valid registrations for the production/supply of tadalafil in the names of the following Thai companies: Pinnacle Chemmed Sai Pharma Top Tree & Co. Linaria Chemicals (Thailand) Vita, and Macrophar Now while these companies have licenses for manufacture, it does not mean that they do so. However, you would think that as the patent expired long ago on Cialis (tadalafil), generics would be readily available here and at a much lower price, but that is not the case. Also, there is the issue of the drug being prescription only. Still bit of a head scratcher as the price of sildenafil dropped considerably when the Thai Government Pharmaceutical Organization started to manufacture it here.

PM Paetongtarn Orders Action as Air Pollution Reaches Hazardous Levels
GarryP replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Not in my neck of the woods. It is mostly harvested by hand, but with very little pre-harvest burning now. Post harvest burning is a big issue in my area though. Burning off all the dry leaves and clearing the fields. Rice stubble burning is also a major issue in my area as is mountain forest burn off. -
Tommy is not far right aka racist. He left the EDL more than 10 years ago because he believed it had become too extreme. Now he is just speaking for the working class, as the vast majority of the middle and upper class could not give an eff about what is happening to them/their daughters. There are even quite a few people with some power who ignored requests for help from the girls who were groomed, saying to the effect that the girls consented so there was nothing to look into. Girls from care homes and working class communities, some as young as 10, and an extremely large number under 16. That consititutes rape. Does he grift from his "reporting"? Of course he does. It's how he makes his living. But he does continue to try to draw attention to what is happening. Something that truly needs addressing. And now Musk has jumped on the issue which has brought great attention to this matter - not a bad thing (although I do not believe Musk is doing it out of the goodness of his heart, but rather for personal benefit - whatever that is). Rees-Mogg is pretentious tw@t and I doubt that him joining Reform would increase support for that party.

However, the hospitals do follow DNR orders. So there is that.

Hopefully, I've got the genes from my dad's side of the family. I seem to suffer from everything that he does so that is probably a good sign. He's 93 and doing okay. He works in the garden for a few hours each day. He did have a serious health problem a few years ago but is over that now. His elder brother pegged it at 94 and is sister buggered off at 96 this year. His younger brother hits 90 next year and is still going strongish. I'd just like to live as long as I don't become a burden on my wife. I'm only 62 so hopefully that doesn't happen any time soon.

But an interesting thread, nonetheless.

I came here when I was 19 just over 42 years ago. I didn't think about it much at the time, but perhaps I was running away from something. Still not sure about it really. Childhood was tough but not totally unhappy - the good often comes with the bad. Got some good life lessons from my divorced parents, and wouldn't be where I am in life now if it wasn't for them. In hindsight would I still come here? To this day, I am not sure.

Siblings flee drug-addicted father only to be targeted by rapist
GarryP replied to snoop1130's topic in Central Thailand News
Prosecuted for what? Would you take in anyone without knowing the full backstory, including people you don't know well? You would be asking for trouble. Just point them in the direction of social services, and, yes, there is such a thing in Thailand.
