  1. I'm thinking about early retirement. I'm 44 years old and I have around $400,000 altogether. $200,000 in retirement accounts and $200,000 in cash. If I stay another 5 years with my company, I'll receive $1200 a month in pension for life with COLA when I turn 60 but the problem is I hate my job and my boring life in the states. I'm in excellent health with no debt. I should also get Social Security at 62 with another $1200 per month, if SS still exists.

My question is should I quit and move to Thailand or should I stick it out and suffer for another 5 years then retire at 49?

Why on earth are you asking what I presume are complete strangers what to do with the rest of your life?

$400,000 isn't that much money, about £250,000. I for one would not wish to see out potentially another 40 years of my life on £250k.

Personally, if I was in your position I would work the extra 5 years to ensure a bit more security.

I wouldn't dream of retiring early on anything less than £500,000 if I wasn't guarenteed any further income. However, it is your life and ultimately your decision.

I'm still bewildered by your post. Honestly, I cannot fathom what some people must think sometimes, asking a forum of complete stranger for some life guidance ...Surely this post is not genuine?

  2. Well we're nearly at the end of a fine series, with lots and lots of beautiful comments and witisisms from around the Ozzie and England camps. What are we going to do when it's all over? Here's a little re-cap of what we will be missing.

Aussie Supporter: " I think we will win against England. After all we are world champs"

England supporter: " I don't know mate. I think we'll give you a good game"

Siam Superfly: " ur al rubbish england. ur al jump off mountain when over. Aus will beet u 5-0"

Aussie supporter: " I think we have a better line up, although maybe Pontings passed it"

England supporter: " Yes I think Vaughn is a far better captain"

Siam Superfly: " ur al rubbish england. ur al jump off mountain when over. Aus will beet u 5-0"

Aussie supporter: "Well it's 2-1 to you mate with one to play. We will win and keep the Ashes"

England supporter: " Don't bet on it. We'll give you a good game anyway"

Siam Superfly: " ur al rubbish england.ur al jump off mountain when over. Aus will beet u 5-0"

Aussie supporter: " You support soccer don't you mate? who will win the premiership?"

    England supporter: " I think........................................................

Siam superfly: " ur al rubbish. An english team won't win the premiership. Ozzie will win it 5-0"

Isn't it going to be a shame to miss all that.

    :o:D

Don't know about the Aussie's, but I guess the English will be celebrating :D

  3. Three young Thai players joined Everton's Academy this week as part of the club's sponsorship with Chang Beer. Although selected on a TV competition, they are all Thai international youth players and come with the strong recommendation of Everton's Academy coach, Ray Hall.

That is all the information I can find on it now, but looks as though Thai football may be on the up.

  4. Angkor wat is amazing, the best landmark I've visited (put the pyramids to shame). It's one of those places where everyone should try and visit at least once in their lifetime. It really is something special.

Bakong is probably the most impressive part of the place, although everything has a great significance.

Enjoy, I'm sure you'll love it!

  5. I did manage to see it, yeah. I think events like that make you feel incredibly humble, I really do feel for people who fall victim to such disasters.

Since the Tsuanami I've seen numerous documentaries of people's stories. One of my favourite's was with actor Danny Dyer on MTV a while ago. It is a contrast of Phuket post Tsunami, the obvious devastation which was inflicted, but also the spirit of the people who have dedicated so much to rebuild to area. It is well worth a watch if you get the chance.

  6. Although only the second day, it does look as though this test will be drawn, the weather at the oval aint looking too clever and by all reports is not going to clear up any time soon. I think it'll be a shame to end such a thrilling series in such a way, but hey, at least we'll win :o . Also, we may get some frantic cricket as the Australians will try to score quick to make up time, could make for another cracking test, just slightly shorter than expected.

  7. What do you mean Ferdinand?

I think he just means he is fed up with Ferdinand in general, not as captain, just a player in the team. I agree with him on that too, Ferdinand is the most overrated player I've ever watched. He just isn't that good. I think Woodgate is the best defender we have, just a shame he is always injured.

When Leeds had both Woodgate and Ferdinand, I heard many of them say Woodgate was by far better, when he came up here to Newcastle he was by far the best centre-half we've ever had, he's just unfortunately injured a lot, poor bloke.

  8. After reading the CDC website and learning about which vaccinations to get before visiting Thailand, I am very curious to know how prevelant the diseases Hepatitis A and Typhoid Fever really are in the Chiang Mai area only.  In order for me and my twin 9-year-old daughters to be vaccinated, it is going to cost me between $400-$500US!!!  Naturally, I do not want to play around with my childrens' health, but can anyone direct me to some public health statistics that show the prevelance of Hepatitis A and Typhoid Fever in the Chiang Mai area?  Because we will be staying in Chiang Mai for one month, this issue could be a more important one.  I need facts, not just ideas, or opinions.  Thanks much.

Typhoid Fever: The incidence of typhoid (enteric) fever is slowly decreasing. Typhoid is reported countrywide, with the highest incidence in the northern and the southern regions, and the incidence greater in the summer and during the rainy seasons (between March and October). Typhoid vaccine is recommended for extended travel outside of tourist areas. The typhoid vacccines are 60% to 70% effective. Food and drink precautions should continue to be observed.
Hepatitis: Hepatitis A vaccine is recommended for all nonimmune travelers. Hepatitis E is endemic, with seroposivity rates of 22% in adults. There is no vaccine for hepatitis E. The hepatitis B carrier rate in the adult general population is about 9%. The usual traveler without lifestyle problems is at virtually no risk of acquiring hepatitis B virus (HBV), but vaccination is recommended for sexual tourists, long-term visitors, and anybody wanting increased protection. Hepatitis C is endemic and is largely transmitted by blood products and body fluids. Like HBV, hepatitis C carries no increased risk for travelers who have a normal lifestyle.

I know you may be reluctant to pay $400-$500, but I think it is a small price to pay to ensure your childrens safety.

  9. Too late - have to stick with what we got until the campaign is over. :o

Yep, totally agree. Changing manager now will not benefit anyone.

I think Pearce will make a good England manager one day, a bit too early now though. Although he has done wonders at Bolton, I just don't think big Sam wouild do it for England. Curbishley is another decent shout, but again, done great at his club for like 13 years is it? But I just cannot see him doing it for England either.

I think there is a distinct lack of quality English managers.

But what players would you pick, its not Ericsson's fault,we just ain't good enough.

This current squad looks good on paper, but theres no passion, they think they are going to stroll out and win.Maybe a change of captain would be better,Terry for example, someone to get them going.I'm fed up with Rio Ferdinand,he's lost the plot.

The Sun is on Ericssson's his case now, so he's had basically he will get drummed out, picture of him with a rope round his neck today.

I suppose all teams have bad patchers, better to have it now than next year.

I think it is the manager's job to instill passion and motivate the team. I said this in a previous post and I will say it again, I think England have the best team player for player in the world, we just need a manager who can prove it.

  10. 'Maybe England have got too many superstars.

I think player for player, England are the best team in the world. Whether or not they all come together and gel is another matter however. We need a manager who can instill confidence in the team, Erickson seems to be doing the complete opposite.

I was watching a news conference with Charles Clarke talking about our new terrorism and deportation/extradition laws and what not... A member of the media asked if Ericksson was to be deported :o:D:D

  11. It's four for me. Anyone care to shed some light as to where the rest of the faces can be found?

I see big face, the old bloke with the walking stick, the mother with the baby in her arms and what appears to be a poorly marked out face in the wall. I think I've just spotted what appears to be a skull in the little monument type thing the bird is sitting upon, so possibly five.

  12. We will still win our group, but that isn't saying much. I honestly think our group is the easiest in qualifiers, definetely in the European section.

I think 3-2-3-2 is probably the formation which would suit us best.

My ideal team, providing all are fit...

    'Keeper

    Robinson

    Defense

    Terry

    Woodgate (our best centre half)

    Campbell

    A. Cole left wing back

    Wright Phillips right wing back

    Midfield

    Beckham

    Lampard

    Gerrard

    Strikers

    Rooney

    Owen

Anyone else got their preferences as in what they woud like to see?

I think we played well, or at least acceptable for the first 30 mins, then we just started to fall apart. It was weird too, nothing really triggered it, we just fell apart. Usually it takes a sending off or a goal, but it all just went to pot. I also cannot take any credit away for N. Ireland, they played well, grafted and took their chances, congratulation to them.

  13. What an embarressment. We have on of the best deliverer's of a ball playing in defensive midfield whilst we have Joe Cole on the wing. Owen Hargreaves? did he even realise he was brought on? Rio Ferdinand is blatenly still high on drugs, did you see how long it took him to react just before they scored?

Any more opinions? Would love to hear from some N. Ireland fans...

  14. The percentage of Aussies winning World Cup is simply 0.1. I think Argentina would win it this year. Japan, Senegal, and Italy has chane to improve and maybe we'll even get to see Uzbekistan.

You think Japan, Senegal, Italy and possibly Uzbekistan have a chance of winning the world cup? Wow, you certainly are an optimist :o If I were you I'd be straight down to the bookies to put that on, if you're right you can be happily retired

I never said and nor i ever meant that. I said that they have chances of doing well in the World Cup which means entering he 2nd or 3rd round. Read properly before drawing conclusions. :D

Out of the teams you mentioned only one has qualified (Japan)

    P W D L G A Pts

    Saudi Arabia 6 4 2 0 10 1 14

    Korea Republic 6 3 1 2 9 5 10

    Uzbekistan 6 1 2 3 7 11 5

    Kuwait 6 1 1 4 4 13 4

    Italy 7 4 2 1 10 6 14

    Norway 7 3 3 1 9 5 12

    Slovenia 7 2 3 2 8 8 9

    Belarus 7 1 4 2 10 9 7

    Scotland 7 1 4 2 4 5 7

    Moldova 7 1 2 4 3 11 5

    Togo 9 6 2 1 17 6 20

    Senegal 9 5 3 1 18 8 18

    Zambia 9 5 1 3 11 10 16

    Congo 9 3 1 5 8 11 10

    Mali 9 2 2 5 11 11 8

    Liberia 9 1 1 7 3 22 4

You are aware that there isn't a 3rd round?

You have your group stages, the winners from each group progress whilst runner's up have a play-off (If I remember correctly) then it is into the last 16 where it becomes a knock-out tournament.

Still a pretty bold prediction, especially for one of them to reach the 3rd round :D
