if your partner doesn't have a good grasp of english adapt your language to help them. speak SIMPLE and CORRECT english and speak SLOWLY and CLEARLY.

hearing the muppet native speakers mimicking the pidgin english spoken by their thai partners is embarrassing.

and seeing the native speakers banging on and on in english that their partner clearly doesn't understand but is smiling away out of politeness (or desire for their money) is hilarious.

They are turning a well known computer/ tech hotspot into a suburban shopping mall. The tourists go there for the tech, the locals go there for the repairs facelift yes, but turning it into a strip Mall, and joining the ranks of the many (Discovery, Platinum, MBK et al) all within closer proximity to the CBD is going to be its downfall..... did you know there is a mall on the opposite side of the intersection before Pantip...... dead... cause its just the same as all the others...

right, it's full of vacant shops and hardly any customers. the location doesn't help but the design and customers its aimed at? hopeless.

dont know the paperwork required details but my sister (UK, good job, university educated) 3 year relationship with an Aussie before moving to Australia. they were made to jump through many hoops and treated as if they were dishonest. lots of paperwork, taken for separate interviews and questioned about the minute detail of their everyday lives so their answers could be compared. quite a palaver! but they got there in the end.

i've been in chiang mai for two days and tried a different restaurant for every meal, thai and foreign food, and i've yet to have a meal i'm happy with. soggy and flavourless describe most of the offerings... oh yes and then there was the pasta with sauce and veg from a can!

can anyone recommend a good restaurant in the old city area, inpartucular i really fancy a pizza but any decent restaurant will do...

i would suggest most foreigners view/experience of thai women is limited to the girls they date whom may or may not be bar girls, may or may not have a decent job and education and may or may not have a good command of english.

how many foreigners take the time to have female friends here? meet and communicate with thai's female or male who are educated and can speak decent english. make the effort and you'll find about and understand a lot more about thailand and thai culture and yes, about thai women.

After 12 years I can say hand on heart I've not had this problem. I wonder what's different in your situation? You must be putting out some kind of vibe, or be a lot older.

i agree. never had this problem.

i have a mate gets it a lot. cant really put my finger on why except he's less fussy about the girls he dates so maybe in the back of his mind he knows they're going to want cash whereas if i get that vibe from a girl i ditch her straight away.

my thai friends in business all complain about how difficult it is to find decent staff. with so many lazy, stupid and dishonest employees here there is really no reason for anyone prepared to work hard not to get a good job.

i see many signs attached to hotels, restaurants, travel agents looking for staff. my advice; your GF needs to get off her arse, put on some decent clothes and go to speak to the owners of any businesses she would like to work.
