  1. I am also a UKTV subscriber, and I am now testing the ThaiExpat TV program (ps: your UKTV userid and password work )

The UKTV program seems easier to use (especially for recordings)

a recording with UKTV would be named something like

    <program name> <episode of total episode> series <maybe extra info>

but the ExpatTV one is named

    <Channel> <Date> <Start time of recording>

    Another couple of points :

    - I can't find an overview if the recordings (only the files on my HDD).

    - I can't record a program just from the TV-Guide.

    - The UKTV one is faster in going back or forward 1 minute or 5 minutes (only a delay of 2-3 sec, but with ThaiExpat 15-20 sec (I tried it with both 3BB and TOT (no difference)

    - Maybe I am wrong on this, but to record a program you also have to watch it, have to investigate further, but if this is true bah.gif

So there is a learning curve involved, but for now I like the UKTV program a lot more.

Yes I had forgotten about all that. I use the quicksearch facility to find progs to record. Usually a few letters from a keyword will bring up the prog I am looking for.

The fast forward / back /1 minute/5 minutes is great for all kinds of reasons. e.g. If I want to watch Sky News, I start it at say 20 minutes back from 'live' and then I can fast forward thru the ads and any news I want to skip. Also great if I didn't catch what someone said and want to see it again. Very quick and efficient. Sounds like it compares very favourably with Expat tv.

Many other obvious uses....skipping thru ads being a biggy....if watching ITV, ch 4, 5,Sky

    yes yes yes

  2. I suppose everyone's requirements / programme choices are different but for me I have been well satisfied.

UKtv has every BBC channel, every ITV channel, plus channel 4 (incl film 4) and channel 5, plus Sky News.

I can watch all the UK TV dramas and series, plus many of the top American ones, and I watch a lot of documentaries , mainly BBC, but also Ch 4 and ITV. I also get the news progs, (like Newsnight, Panorama), all live sport (BBC/ITV/Ch4), and even the occasional entertainment or quiz shows, comedies etc, concerts and so on.

For me the trick is to use a good TV guide (I use D Telegraph TV highlights) to sort out the programmes I want to watch. This saves me hours in ploughing through all the prog schedules trying to find what is good to watch.

Due to time difference I rarely watch anything live but usually watch progs in the week of transmission. Anything I want to keep I can copy (using their facility) onto an MP4 video file.

The picture quality is excellent and I have not had any problems with audio. I connect my lap top to my TV with an HDMI cable and sit on my sofa and control everything from a wireless mouse. It is better than a remote control.

It really is the best TV service I have found since being overseas but wonder if this merger will impact my choice/quality etc.

And I can still use Torrents to dl American TV series, movies etc, but rarely do these days as uktv takes care of 99% of my viewing needs.

totally agree with both your posts

  3. They are right. They really do have no future. Lazy, ill-mannered and resorting to thuggery, hopefully, like the dinosaurs, they will one day become extinct.

just another farang with too much to say about someone else's country. you're merely a guest here ... what are you doing here anyway? ... couldn't hack it in your own country, so you've come to leach off and exploit the beautiful people of thailand! if you have no respect for the thais, i suggest you pack you bags and FO back home!

    Beautiful people of Thailand???

After what they are doing to each other in Bangkok.

I would not call them beautiful.

Or are the shootings and bombing of innocent children the falangs fault?

What with the taxi scum, ,the tuk tuk scum we now have the longtail boat scum.

Pooket is just a laughing stock now.

not to mention the corrupt police force, politicians, the thais who have no conscience about about borrowing money from and not paying it back, ripping off and cheating their own family and 'friends'

like every country there are good people, and if you like 'beautiful' people, here but for goodness sake take the blinkers off.

generalised comments such as 'beautiful people of thailand' only shows you are either ill-informed and/or naive about thailand and the thai's or an idiot.

  4. dont know about lying down flat but be careful; i went VIP, nice bus, comfy seat, loads of room felt i was set up for a relaxing journey until they switched on the music, it was LOUD, i tried putting in my headphones on full and i couldn't hear my oun music. i looked around and non of the thais seemed to be enjoying the racket, no one could sleep it was impossible. who knows why they do it. what a nightmare. i'd pay peanuts for a shit seat as long as i could have peace and quiet.

you get to lie down flat by train

  5. Sorry but no sympathy from me for anyone who hires those annoying machines.

agree. i dont get the attraction, riding backwards and forwards parallel to a beach... ok, there is speed but surely the thrill soon wears off, and its not like you're going anywhere... its like riding a motorcycle up and down a straight road. yawn.

    plus it's really annoyingly noisy

plus you're probably going to get scammed as soon as you return to shore.

why would anyone rent one of these things? because there's a fool born every minute.

  6. Don't deserve it but there are a lot of gullible expats over here lonely enough to fall for any scam.

Buying houses for women is one of the favorite ones.crazy.gif

Not sure about your "lonely enough" thing but yes, many cannot see the wood from the trees for sure.

lonely sure, low self esteem, lacking a grasp of reality, easily flattered... traits of men, and some women visiting turkey and some african coutries, who make the fundamental mistake of believing money can buy you love.

if you are one of these guys and you dont believe me check it out for yourself; cut off the cash and see how long she stays around. i really hope she does but i would bet my mortgage she'll be in the wind faster than you can say mai me setang...

  7. 20 explosions? My personal opinion is that it looks like the targeting of someone's business has made someone really mad. whistling.gif

And where are the police again? Months of constant bombings and they're still nowhere close to catching the culprit. I guess seeing how a policeman can go on stage and cheer the deaths at Trat, the police don't really want to catch these people do they? Face it, if this continues and the so called police don't do their jobs, the army might have to.

they'll be out for the photo op this morning looking all concerned and serious.

  8. i've raised the high road death toll every songkran with many thai's and the vast majority response is that its 'sanook' and therefore somehow acceptable.

with so many dying every year it puzzles me why there isnt lobbying from the friends and families of those needlessly killed to promote road safety during the holiday.

  9. thais love to threaten to sue each other. i cant remember any libel or slander case ever going through the courts.

i remember a thai lady in the UK had her visa extension rejected due to her bf stopping sponsoring her after their relationship broke down.

she was all over the papers saying she was going to sue the UK government for100 million baht. yea right.

thai's dont seem to understand how libel, slander or how the judicial system works and just come over as idiots.

  10. back home people love a bargain, a sale, getting a product or service at a lower price - and quite rightly so.

i have never heard anyone back home criticised for making a saving on a purchase. why do people do it here?

in contrast i have known a couple of thai's who said they would never pay a low price for something - they saw it as somehow losing face!

... on the other hand you should see the long lines of people queuing for the free food and snacks at the protest sites - are they to be criticised?!

  11. Don't see anything in the court orders that prevents normal policing.

Someone is just using it as an excuse to do nothing.

It is after all supposed to be the job of the police to protect the public regardless of who they are.

surely its the basic role of the police to serve and protect the people. if people are going around lobbing grenades and shooting at innocent people surely the police have a role in at least having a prescsnce in areas where such acts may occur? and to professionally investigate and pursue those responsible.

the police are nowhere to be seen, just popping out for a photo opportunity following an attack.

    pathetic.
