  1. The power has been unstable here in my neighborhood (Udon), as well. Usually late in the afternoon..just after the temperature peaks. We have been in the 41-44 temperature range, and we don't cool down too much at night. (Until early Morning).

Power is unstable because the demand is high...for air conditioning. It was totally off for 2 hours the other night. Even if it doesn't go off, it fluctuates so badly that the air conditioner, refrigerator, florescent lights, and microwave do not work. Air condition fan works but no cold air. Microwave spins and hums but does not heat. Refrigerator struggles. This goes on from 4pm to about 7pm.

Bottom line....power company cannot keep up with the high demand during the hot season. It will normalize by the end of May.

Others may be luckier (perhaps we are living in "non-priority" areas of our cities).

I am slightly west of the airport right inside ring road (udon thani)

    Unfortunately

In Samui, Lamai area Weekly is the norm, any time of year. Sometimes all day too.

  2. "Johnson reminded America that it had not ratified the international law of the sea, the UN’s female emancipation and rights of the child conventions, and nor did it recognise the ICC/ He said that was evidence of America’s “hysterical jealousy” in guarding its own democracy."

    Spot on Boris! thumbsup.gif

I am sure that Boris and Trump are going to be best friends................

    I don't know.

Perhaps Boris will lose this vote.

Trump on the other hand doesn't like losers.

  3. Thanks pstbkk. I will get it on Friday..You would think on a Friday they would know they are closed on the following Tuesdayfacepalm.giffacepalm.giffacepalm.gif

Bali and their ceremonies, you gotta love it

    Plum

Nyepi is the worst experience for travelers to Bali.

Hard to believe it is possible, or taken so serious even inside big hotels.

  4. Have no doubt that somehow Thais manage to make a simple process seem difficult, convuluted and anything but straight forward. Obviously this can only be the intention to fool the majority to accepting the new charter.

Constitution No 20, draft version No 3 here we come!

The final fallback position will be the Constitutional Court deciding as they see fit. I am not confident.

  5. More Anti-Foreigner Stuff?

This would also take in many expat businesses. Many of these people are just trying to live within the Law.

Thai's perceived problems with foreigners are because of shortcomings in their own people, one way or another.

Looks like it may be time to rethink any ideas about living in Thailand.

This lot are just plain greedy.

Really ? Then you haven't been around lately. Estate Agents (mostly from Europe) must be on top of the list for greed.

How would you know if "I have been around lately"? 8 years to be precise, and a licensee in Real Estate from my own Country.

Had dealings with many real estate people locally. No problems....What greedy thing set you off? Or are you an apologist?

Greed is the right expression especially when rates of 10% to rent out or 5% commission for the sale of property, which is far and above the European rate. There is not justification for pure greed which seems to coincide with parasitical estate agents desire for acquiring wealth at the expense of others.

I agree on the commissions being relatively high, but It is not all beer and skittles chauffeuring around people here who have no real idea what they want, or what is possible. Thailand is not an easy place to do business, or make money if you are a Foreigner.

I would pay 10% commission, at market value to sell something problem free right now.

  6. If she had an American license she could just order one online from the aaa website for $15 and they'd just mail it to her, but she only learned how to drive and only got her first license here in Thailand, so that limits her. Thanks for the suggestion.

This is one of many problems living on Samui.

I suggest traveling to Suratthani and just doing what is required. Do not complicate things.

I had to go to Surat last year as the Girlfriend sold her Honda which was bought new on the Island.

The Transfer had to be affected there...Whole day gone.TIT.

i have had my business in thailand for 8 years. thai mum from my 2 kids is 51% owner. i employ as many thais as i can. 2 have worked for me for over 5 years. all the money i make from tourists is spent back into thailand. really dont see how i am hurting thailand.

Doesn't sound like a nominee structure there. Nominees are when foreigners set up a company that normally cannot be run by foreigners here. To avoid the restriction fake/nominees Thai shareholders are used. Those people don't have any connection to the business and no control at all.

In practice it is if you are in control, regardless if you are married or have a girlfriend. Legally it is not, but that will not stop every Thai in positions of Authority treating you in the worst way.

If you were to visit Immigration with this Legal Structure and scenario you would be probed by the Transnational Crime Center. I did, and spent a memorable hour with the Captain who was quite adept in his questioning.

By the way I was just lodging a Form to comply with the registration of a foreign friend in my 2 bed residence.

  9. Dear Thai Government,

In reference to your Crack Down on Foreign Businesses, and urging the Private Sector to Assist.

So who will pay TAT fees if you get rid of the Foreigner Tourist Businesses?

Who will employ Thai people in these Jobs?

Who will pay the Taxes these Businesses pay.

Who will pay the Visa and WP fees?

Who will pay the Accountants and Lawyers?

Who will buy Cars and Motorcycles produced in Thailand?

Who will be left to spend money living, and support Thai families?

Will Tourist not come anymore because things have changed?

Who will be left to blame.

    Not us Foreignerssmile.png

  10. Well boo hoo. They 'register' all of us farangs and require us to report our address every 90 days and show up to immigration every year to prove we are worthy enough to remain in this 'paradise'. Personally, they can kick me out. But the damage they do to my immediate Thai family and extended Thai family by marriage would be -- well, back to poverty.

Amazing how causality is always perverted in this Country by the powers that be.

If they want to reduce the GDP of Thailand significantly, they seem to be going about how they treat Foreigners the right way.

Serious mental issues, en mass, must exist to drive them on.

  11. Surely, if they do not want this constitution they should vote against it rather than boycott the referendum.

LOL. Do you believe that the vote will be fair, that the question and options, will be anything other than the choice of 1) Give the military more power, or 2) We agree?

I would think this will trigger more International condemnation of you know who.

  12. 7 years ago I posted my passport and some money to the Thai consulate in Birmingham (over age 50).

It came back 3 days later with a 1 year multi entry VISA ..... I stayed 15 months.

Now, despite being married, and with a Thai son, I have to turn up at CM Immigration at 4am, fill out pages of forms and photo copies, be interviewed with my wife, maybe a home visit later. Wait one month for confirmation of my 1 year extension.

    Definitely more difficult.

Crazy how you are treated if married to a Thai...Perhaps they are more suspicious of those married to Thai's and their reasons.

I was married to a Thai, and now I am not. It is easier as a simple Non-O Retirement candidate.

Bit tired though of being interogated for any thing they can dream up, had an experience recently, felt like I was being fitted up with the Foreign Island Mafia manacle when handing in a form advising a Foreigner friend is staying at my 2 bedroom rented house. 1hr questioning in Transnational Crime Centre.

No doubt related to the Thai Mayor owner of a bar paying money to some Thai's to shoot up a noise complaining Thai owner's Bungalow Resort.

    Definitely more difficult.

  13. @gsxrnz

Yes I can trust the them. And thanks for the suggestion. that could work. We are still trying other banks now.

But its so weird to have to do that. I mean, I don't even care to have my name on the bank account. I don't need to. But the bank says I have to, its a requirement because of the amount of shares I hold......but then they tell me I can only be added with a work permit.

Unfortunately the Law is not the issue here in Thailand, It is whatever Thai people think.

Just a personal experience but it only gets worse from here, and has done more so over the last few years.

Note to Self: Avoid all dealings with Business in Thailand.

  14. It's about time to put an end to this free for all stupidity and disregards of human and Thai values

that have going on for many years, plenty of complaints but no dose any thing about it...

Allow this to continue but in a fenced area and a admission's fee to cover medical emergencies

provided on site, paying for guards and for the massive clean up afterword, now days, surly

a back packer can afford the 100 or so baht to cover those expenses as it is for safety and

    order for everybody...

There is a charge for entry to the parties to cover this as you enter Haad Rin.

It's the original story that is deflecting the blame solely to foreigners.

It is the locals business and it is a mess on many levels.
