Hi all,
I have a few questions in regards to obtaining a UK visa for my thai GF that need answering if possible (I can't find any similar questions/answers).
Background:
I have lived with my girlfriend in Thailand for several years and as a matter of fact we both currently work at the same IT company. We are planning to go to England for a few weeks in May while I take my exams and visit my family at the same time. So the purpose of her visit will be to accompany me to visit my family and of course see England and anywhere we decide to go in that time. She will be staying at a home my family owns and funds will be provided by me and her own funds.
Questions:
#1. Supporting letters (Sponsor or Employer letter) need to be addressed to anyone in particular? I read templates where the "British Embassy" is mentioned, however I don't think this is required?
#2 My mum has provided me with a photocopied water bill and bank statement showing the address in the UK where we will be staying, will this be sufficient to prove my GF is entitled to stay there? Also these are not original copies, but photocopies.
#3 Other than the supporting letter, 6 month bank statements and my passport as a sponsor, is there a need to provide any other documents? I see on the website it specifically states not to include photos etc, though I would like to prove we have been together for years and live together and actually work at the same company.
#4 As per the given background given above, the purpose of the visit would be tourism? I don't think visiting family/friends applies due to them being my family.
Thank you very much,

Thanks Tywais and ubonjoe - will see what happens.

Thanks for the reply guys.
The company is Thai owned.
What made me wonder if it was "law" was I seen the requirement of "education certificate" on many sources (doesn't explicitly say degree but is confusing).
little bit worried...

Hello,
I've just accepted a job offer from an IT company and was in the process of starting to apply for the visa. HR recently contacted me and told me that by law I need to have a degree and show my transcript to obtain a Work Permit. I thought this was only needed for a teaching license if you're teaching at certain schools? I am currently studying for a degree so as of right now I do not hold one.
I would like some advice from the long-term members if possible, such as ubon.
Thanks

You can register an account with WU and will need to send them copies of your ID for proove of identification... takes 24-48 hours for them to verify, after that you are free to send money to yourself online from anyplace in the world to pick up immediately
BUT... it is pretty stupid to use WU to send money to yourself, as others have said, go to any bank, use either the ATM or the counter to withdraw money, it is MUCH cheaper, the fees for WU are too high.
I've found it to be cheaper using WU compared to ATM withdrawals and any other method of transferring funds here, from the UK anyway. I guess it depends on the bank you have, I have NatWest in the UK.
As someone else said, if you use your credit card on Western Union, it will be treated as a cash advance, there are work arounds though

I'm going to immigration for an extension of stay at Chang Wattana and I've printed my own TM7 form. However, it's printed on two pieces of paper rather than double sided - my gf failed to follow this simple order . Would this be accepted or would I have to staple these together? If so I think I won't even bother taking my own.
Cheers

Thaivisaservice is slightly cheaper but leave later and take slightly longer; Bangkok Buddy arrive back in Bangkok about 3 hours earlier (around 2pm) with a buffet in Cambodia. But yes only two times a week.
Depends if you are an early bird

You're talking about the last entry in your current visa right?
If so, then just do a border run...

I agree with other posters, 100 baht?? My god man.... You are in the wrong country if you deem 100 baht as a hefty fare.
It's not about how much, it's the principle. I wouldn't like being done over / conned full-stop.

"The driver of a motorbike was injured and his female passenger died"
"Police named the dead man as O Talayleing, 27, a local man."
Was it a man or a woman that died?
Read the news article again ...
Neither victim was wearing a helmet. On Monday evening another motorcyclist was killed when he slammed into the rear of a 10-wheel truck travelling along Thepkrasatri Road in Mai Khao.
Police named the dead man as O Talayleing, 27, a local man.
Thanks, my bad. However when the title is so poorly written it's quite hard to read.
"The driver of a motorbike was injured and his female passenger died when he changed lanes in front of A female motorcycle’s passenger die and a male driver injure after he changed lane in front of a pickup truck yesterday morning (November 26)."
Also when the title is regarding a woman dying, why is more emphasis placed on a completely different accident?

He doesn't deserve to be re-united with his items and cash, I have no idea how you can leave that behind.

best to "know" somebody and you never wait more than 20-30 min
you know, those people skipping in front of other, baring gifts for the official and/or his/her boss ?
What?
-
Actually if you arrive at 4pm you still get a queue ticket and are in and out in 20 mins.
"Actually" that's probably not the case. However, I guess if you arrive late when the queue is dying down there there wouldn't be a long wait. Seems they get a move on near the end of the day when they still see many people still waiting.

I was at Chaeng Wattana around 2 months ago and I arrived around 2.30pm ... Was there until 5pm..
2.5 hours instead of 1 hour at the old office at Ladprao. Not good.

If she used Thai Visa Service from On Nut or Bangkok Buddy from Sukhumvit Soi 12 she will have no problem in getting one 30day visa exempt stamp.
Yes, she was picked up from soi 12 at 4:30AM, so I'm guessing she used Bangkok Buddy
That was my choice; back in BKK at 2.30 and buffet
The former if going for an actual visa @ Laos

As others have stated, Bangkok Bank actually advertise on their website they will open accounts for people on a Tourist Visa.
As for internet banking, depends on the branch but malls seem to be OK

The degree is for sure recognised here and would bring the same benefits.

"silly old critta". - I won't add to that, pretty much sums it up.

I agree there is a lot of misinformation out there, and it is hard what to believe.
But you would think if he was innocent, he would do all he could to clear his name.
If he had nothing to hide why refuse a DNA test, it makes him look guilty.
Sure it makes him look guilty... but if his alibi is solid why give it off and possible get in trouble because of a mistake.
Two sides to each coin.
Anyway there is so much misinformation there that I stay well away from this case because I simply don't know. But I do know that the guys reputation is toast even if he is cleared. Because then people like you will say the samples have been switched. He just can't win.
Personally giving DNA now would be a good thing to do and if the Brits get it too then it would really vindicate him if he is not guilty or nail him if guilty. (I dont know but I hope the Brits have a good sample)
Robblok, who said he has a solid alibi? I remember the faked CCTV images I saw amongst a lot of things I've read. Like previously stated, refusing to give a DNA shows guilt. Hell if I was innocent I would do it to clear my name?
Seems like you are sort of defending him, which looks very strange indeed. Not sure what your game is.

Wrong ....while no parameters are specified ..you need to examine the practical nature of the question.....also the answer is 24.999 can't quite recall that is 25%
No, the rounding is correct; you don't carry out any rounding if further calculations are to be made.
You've lost me on the last part I'm afraid.
p.s Your netiquette is quite poor and general attitude throughout the thread.
-
As previously stated you should never round any value if it is to be used further in the calculation - this could yield completely different answers.
By the way the question doesn't even state the answer needs to be rounded to any significant figures, but if it was 24.9 then I would put 24.9 (25 to 2 s.f.)

This is the module from The Open University. I just completed the math module this year while in Thailand. Definitely worth doing, very good.

This was on thai tv a few days ago I think.
Her previous husband died when "falling" down the stairs around a week after life insurance was taken out on him.
Doesn't take someone with a brain to solve this case

Hi oldgit,
Thanks for your response which will be very helpful; I will follow this advice.
Yes you are quite right, I think it was poor wording on my part.
Regarding an invitation letter from my family for accommodation, this can be scanned and printed off my end in Thailand right? Should I get her to sign it also? (sorry I am most likely over-thinking it and worrying due to the trip being only 5 weeks away).
Bank statements will be printed off my online banking website here in Thailand.
That;s it, thanks again for the help, much appreciated!
