Vientiane is the only nearby location that does not ask for financial proof, accommodations and a ticket out of the country.

Savannakhet is good but you need the same proof as the others require.

Kuala Lumpur may be better than Penang now.

    See this checklist. http://www.thaiembassy.org/kualalumpur/contents/images/text_editor/files/TR non list_kc (1) (3).pdf

I heard Kuala Lumpur was bad, so now it might be an option then. I can't remember but can you do 3 back-to-back tourist visas from Vientiane without an issue? I have the financial funds but rather not carry 20k around for Penang etc.

  2. Hi all,

Wondering what is the easiest and worst place from Vientiane, Penang or Kuala Lumpur for applying for a Tourist Visa. I have 2 previous tourist visas from Vientiane, Laos this year, back to back.

I am guessing Laos, Vientiane is still the easiest, even with back-to-back visas, and Kualu Lumpur being the worst? Penang I guess is in the middle, as they do ask for proof of accommodation, flights etc?

    Cheers.

  3. As ubonjoe has said, just get a van from airport to the bridge - I did this exact trip 1-2 weeks ago and pretty sure I made it to embassy not far from 9am. Just make sure that when you go from Laos border to the embassy you pay 100b as the vans / tuktuks will ask for 300b

Be aware when visiting the side building for any photos / application forms - there's no organisation or anybody to help you. You have to now grab a queue number and then wait for one of the staff to type in your details electronically on the application form for which they will then print out. All I wanted was 2 photos as I had my own printed off application form but was only angrily told I could not use it when asking why I could not as the form was printed from their website. I did see people doing their forms in the queue so I guess it's still possible to manually do it yourself, just be aware ?

Penang require a bank statement and flight booking. Singapore have strict requirements too and don’t like issuing tourist visas to those getting back to back tourist visas.

You won’t find anywhere easier than Vientiane assuming you haven’t hit their limit.

I have no problem showing bank statements etc, but not a flight booking. On Penang website application checklist it also states accommodation booking as well. Do the agents still issue fake flight bookings there or not? I only have one tourist visa in the passport but about 5-6 exemps.

What about Cambodia? It's like 3-4 days to receive a visa?

  5. I know Vientiane, Laos is a safe bet for obtaining a Tourist Visa; it's pretty much guaranteed you will receive one with the minimum set of requirements. However, I actually dislike going there and do want to try Penang, Malaysia instead...

But what is the situation at Penang? Is there an actual requirement for every applicant to show tickets in/out of the country, and provide proof of accommodation, ie hotel bookings? Obviously Vientiane does not require either of these. Hoping someone who has recently been to Penang and received a TR can provide some feedback.

If Penang is a no go, what are the other alternatives? Singapore?

    Thanks guys.

  6. Hello all,

    Some background:

I have previously worked in Thailand for 2 years and I entered on a Non-B from England and received a work permit shortly afterwards, then I continued on the yearly extensions. I resigned from that company and gave work permit back and have been on visa exempts since.

My question is, if I start work for a BOI company, would I be able to go to Laos or Malaysia to get the Non B? I heard something about Laos requiring a work permit before they issue a Non B. I also know things are different because I've had a work permit before?

    Thanks everyone.

I have never known of anyone in your exact situation, so this is something of an educated guess:

-normally, when Immigration is closed for a holiday, you can go in on the first day (and only on the first day) that they re-open, and not have to pay a fine etc.

-there is a "But" in your case, and I think it is a big "but". There is no requirement that you report to your local Immigration office before leaving Thailand; rather, you are stamped out as you depart at the airport or border. If you want(ed) to visit the Immigration office (and avoid an otherwise required trip out of the country), you should not have left it until the last day.

In my view, you will be on overstay if you don't leave today.  Will your employer be willing to keep you on the payroll until Monday ?

Yeah I knew about the weekend part but not in my scenario., ty for reply.  I have just sorted it for Wednesday to be my last day so this should avoid complications. Is there a form at immigration to fill out or do you just show them your passport and resignation / termination letter to cancel this extension?

I have no idea what they are going to do.

Perhaps the will do the application for you on Monday.

But it is ok if my last day of work is today and I go to immigration on monday? The leave within 24-hours doesn't apply for weekends right?

Also maybe she will cancel my work permit, she requires my passport and work permit to do this in my absence?

  9. @ubonjoe

My last day at work today and HR asked for my passport and work permit and told me it;s needed for the 7-day extension. What is she talking about? I go to immigration and request the 7 days extenstion with the termination letter from my company, correct? I think they will date it today so can I can go to immigration on Monday without a problem? It's obviously closed today and can not get any extension.

A work permit would be canceled at the labor ministry where it was issued not immigration.

You only need a termination letter to cancel your extension at immigration. If you company will will to date it a little later than Friday you could go to immigration before that date and they would postdate the cancellation to that date that would allow time for you to leave the country. No need to pay 1900 baht to get 7 days to leave the country.

Immigration will be closed tomorrow and Friday for holidays.

    Thanks for info in  @ubonjoe

What about any documentation from the company for further employment? I will still be working in Bangkok but not straight away. Someone told me I would need some sort of documentation stating how much tax I have paid to obtain my second work permit at another company?

  11. Hi all,

My HR department (actually 1 person which does this role as an extra duty) isn't the most knowledgeable when it comes foreigners and immigration so I am asking what documents I need to ask from the company when I resign? My last day is this Friday and so I presume we will both go to immigration to cancel my work permit and I will apply for the 7-day extension at the same time so I do not have to leave the country within 24-hours. I will be working here in Thailand asap so do I need to obtain any tax documentation or anything else I would need to use when applying for my second work permit with another company?

    Thanks guys

Thanks for your input. And believe me when i say i am aware its ridiculous! But it is how it is. I want to tell them the full truth about my relationship situation. Someone mentioned that could be a bad idea that we intend to marry. I don't see how because i am still married at the moment. Meaning i couldn't possibly get married in the UK while i'm still married. I thought my cover letter was going to be quite simple but it seems its getting more complicated by the minute. I can prove without a doubt: My income/ my stable job (British Forces), Accommodation during her visit, i can cover her expenses.

I've spoken to her about proof of return and she is an Athlete for her country at represents it at the highest level, surely this is good evidence of her return?  Also she owns a vehicle, her income wont be usable unfortunately.

@Above posters - My initial post was not from my bad experiences as I have not had any from the several years I've been here, but I am younger than the original poster and I haven't been living and working here blind for last several years.

But as you've had a long relationship before you obviously do know that you can't know someone in 6 months and the quote "nothing lasts forever" also comes to mind.  There's just so many noobies that get stung in Thailand so sorry for my first over-reaction.

Anyway, I don't think the dog or possibly the car is a valid reason to return (a kid is also not a valid reason, correct me if I am wrong), her business I expect would be the most valid point, although a fitness-instructor is a bit vague. Just view the threads on this forum in regards to obtaining a visa to the UK and all the comments; I found them great when I did the same as you're currently doing a year back.

    Anyway, all the best dude

It depends upon which office you go to. You should of gotten the form when you picked up your new passport.

Unless you have an extension of stay issued by immigration you do not need to got to a office to have the stamps transferred. You can do it on departure from the country by showing both passports and they will move your entry to stamp to the new passport and stamp you of out of the country in it.

    Chaeng Wattana immigration.

Yes I am currently on yearly extensions.

    Thanks @ubonjoe

  14. @ubonjoe Apologies for posting on a finished thread but it will save me opening a new one; do you need a letter from your embassy confirming your passport when transferring your stamps to a new one?  I am going to go to immigration today to transfer my stamps. Upon searching I have seen it mentioned a few times.

Also is there a form I can download and complete?

    Thanks again
