  1. Pattaya MUST adapt to the sea change that is occurring and whilst some may lament the demise of the old sex-saturated pattaya, we must remember that those days are now over. The sex trade will never exist in Thailand the way it did before. Never.  It is just a matter of time before all the old haunts are shuttered, sold and re-purposed in order to save their owners from a certain bankruptcy if they don't.

2021 is over in terms of returning tourism and because of that, many of these sex-focussed establishments countrywide, are going to simply disappear.
Thailand is in for a very difficult time of adapting, not just because of covid, but because of an education system which is deeply flawed and skewed to actually fuel the sex trade in some ways, and certainly skewed to keep people on lower incomes and to focus on trade that benefits visitors.

Even without the sex trade, and with renovation happening to Pattaya, it will be a very long time before any major investment into  a revitalised infrastructure is made good, because Covid19 is a  long way from being over, and there are many hurdles to be overcome in terms of international travel that would support arrivals in their millions.

Thailand itself has to come to some kind of compromise with quarantine and/or vaccination policies for visitors, and we're still in the early days of confirming long term efficacy in terms of vaccination.

With such a massive hiatus disrupting the rhythm and flow of nightlife and sextrade, I can't see how it's possible for it all to just start up again at the drop of a hat - a lot of girls will be finding new ways to survive, and accommodating and servicing 10 fat farangs a day, whilst perhaps lucrative, is not exactly the Harvard of career choices once you've had a break from it....

  2. Actually forget the proposals by thailand and TAT-  the  real delusion is thinking there are tourists of any number at all that can afford to travel here for holidays!!!
Additionally , the Uk is now demanding quarantine on arrival and probably will for sometime.
In addition again,  there is still some real concern over  mutant strains and the efficacy of the vaccines to combat them.
I’d say give it another 18 months before numbers climb up and that’s conservative.
    Realistically, probably more like 2024.

  3. I doubt very much if the number of infections has really decreased due to the pervasive nature of Covid19. I suspect that they've lessened testing.

To be honest, a really good thing for Thailand would be to test as many people as possible, therefore PROVING to the rest of the world that actually living WITH Covid19 is no death sentence. Because I'm pretty sure its pervasive out there, and that even you and I have probably had it over the last 18 months.

I wonder if it's too late for Thailand's tourist trade to recover?

I mean - I'm not seeing much indication of people chomping at the bit to fly into Thailand or anywhere else, for that matter!

Why the heck are we looking at a photograph from 2013?

Because thems were the good ol' days, laddie! Thems were the good ol' days, when the beer flowed like wine, and there was a girl in every boys bed, and spending was unfettered, the nights long and the days golden.. Interest rates were more favourable and the exchange rates even better. The baht bought bang for your buck and the buck bought booty.

  5. For the beauty of the earth,
For the beauty of the skies,
For the love which from our birth
    Over and around us lies,
Lord of all, to thee we raise
This our grateful hymn of praise.

For the beauty of each hour
Of the day and of the night,
Hill and vale, and tree and flower,
Sun and moon and stars of light,
Lord of all, to thee we raise
This our grateful hymn of praise.

For the joy of human love,
    Brother, sister, parent, child,
Friends on earth, and friends above,
    Pleasures pure and undefiled,
Lord of all, to thee we raise
This our grateful hymn of praise.

For each perfect gift of thine,
To our race so freely given,
    Graces human and divine,
Flowers of earth and buds of heaven,
Lord of all, to thee we raise
This our grateful hymn of praise.

    For thy Church which evermore
    Lifteth holy hands above,
    Offering up on every shore
    Her pure sacrifice of love,
Lord of all, to thee we raise
This our grateful hymn of praise.

  6. There IS no social distancing happening in Thailand.

Thailand's anti-covid measures only include border control by air and some land points, and masks. Thats it.

Anyone tuned into anything happening on the entertainment front in Thailand will know that there have been enormous concerts happening with no masks and no distancing - huge numbers in the tens of thousands.

    Covid just isn't  here.

    But....

However - if these new cases are traceable, there could well be a second wave....

It would incredible if Thailand managed to keep the cases of covid so low until a vaccine arrived....

You did say you got your extension...now you want your money back, am i missing

Im assuming the OP has received their extension, but judging from the date (26th) they have not received their actual visa?

(usually issued after a 30 day extension).

However = it doesn't seem likely to me that they SHOULD receive a visa because they cannot get a visa for 5000 through an agency. It would cost quite a lot more.

If indeed this is the case, then there has obviously been seriously bad communication on both parties part, and the OP is now in a very dangerous situation and could face deportation.

At the very least OP needs to seek proper legal/immigration advice (and should not mention the agency) and find out if he can be here under the current amnesty if not, he will either have to stump up the money to get his visa the normal way  - or  - leave the country and back from whence he came.
