I don't see anything about ASN hd which has the NHL , they are adding another True Sports HD channel , but unless they have ASN HD I would not bother as they have a habit of turning off games mid stream to show reruns of other games from a month earlier .

Just cannot trust the children in charge of programming .

It has been almost a year since the world cup and they still not have added anymore HiDef channels , Truevisions is a complete and utter joke and a waste of money unless you are a premier league fan .

If you are a premier league fan , then I would say it is worth it , if you are not a premier league then imo it is a joke . much better off downloading all the movies and tv u want from the net in hd.

I bet more than 3/4's of them are regretting signing up in the first place (due to false advertising), and would get their money back if they could . . . . True have such a long way to go even to get their 2 HDTV channels to function. The sports channel only shows repeats on repeats of old & last years sporting events. The movie channel plays the same repeats as on the normal SD channel, and in most instances the compression of the picture is terrible and it looks like cr@p!! And all of this from a company that still transmits in mono sound on SD, not much hope is there for a proper HD TV service. As you can see I am one of the " most people" mentioned above.

Get rid of the monopoly and allow other satellite companies to compete for our business, thats the only way we will ever get a decent TV/Satellite provider here in Thailand. In the mean time I will stay with Astro and my 8, and soon to be 12 HD channels.

I called up True today and asked the girl how come you keep playing the same 3 or 4 shows on the sports channel while there is live golf and many other sports available . Her answer was if you want to watch golf you should get the golf channel , I said well what does having the golf channel have to do with repeating the same stuff over and over again on the sports channel ?

She said , well sir you are the only one complaining !

Really talking to Trues staff is like talking to a retarded 4 year old . They have no idea about customer service .

PS if I could get astro here in Chiang Mai would order in a minute .

And If there are any other HDTV customers out there reading this , I would think it would be great if you all called True and told them that there is more than one customer pissed off about their crap service and that you would like to talk to a manager, not that one ever called me back or would speak to me on the phone .

More fantastic customer service from good old TRUE!! They just don't care . . . . . and they don't have to when they are the only provider in most cases!! I really don't know what other options are available to you in the Chiang Mai area. Downloading is an option, but I'm sure like me you just want to sit down and watch TV without the added hassle of having to download everything all of the time? I download a lot but sometimes when I come in after a long day I just want to put my feet up and watch TV . . . . . !

Ya I hear you about just sitting down and watching the tv , but I download everything that I want to watch in better than HDTV quality , that is except the news and live sports of course . I can and do download some sports but what I really wanted from the True sports channel was live sports .

But they just have no idea about how to run a business , I worked in customer service for the phone company in Canada for 26 years , we were not perfect but when I customer wants to talk to a supervisor they talk a supervisor . The tech support for true are very poor at their job , at least most of them . They don't understand the product they are selling , and to tell you the truth they just don't care . When you try to reason with them , they display no sense of logic . I mean when I asked them how come you don't have golf on the sports channel , their reply is golf is on the golf channel . Using this logic , they will I guess there will be a channel for every different sport .

But a heads up to anyone thinking about subscribing to this crummy service , unless they do get all these new hdtv channels and who knows if anything true says is true , don't bother , you will imo regret it .

I do speak Thai.... and I still find nothing of interest on the Thai channels.. That aside since loosing DSTV I now have true.. What terrible programming.. Most of the series are repeats of 2008/2009 or older. The programming is constantly interupted by ads.. and to make it worse the ads are advertising the channel you are already watching.. Worst of all is the censorship, blurring and lack of choice. Bad enough to make do with last seasons programs but then they cut out half of the storyline. What i the point of showing an 'adult' programme like 'trueblood' if they are gonna cut out all the nudity, sex and language ? Same for Movies and other series that are aimed at adults.. Unless the programme is some homogenised 'family' comedy pap you aren't allowed to watch it.. Meanwhile Thai newspapers are full of gore, sex and scandal... Basically TV here sucks and won't improve anytime soon.

If you have a decent internet connection you can download just about everything (tv shows from around the world and many movies ) in very very high quality from warez sites . You are right of couse the tv here is a joke . But I think as a side note that most Thai's are very reluctant to complain .

MKV is one of the standards for HD video, and I am downloading quite a few of those.

Matroska (.mkv) is a container format similar to avi/mp4 but is open in specification. The main advantage MKV has over other containers is the ability to store unlimited audio, video, subtitle tracks within a single file.

H.264/AVC High Profile is the standard for HD.

I wish my Phillips DVD player (with USB port) recognized MKV!

It can I had the same problem mine was only recognising some MKV's but when I went to the website (Phllips) and put in the correct model number I was able to update the software and now I have no problem playing MKV's

TrueVisions, the pay-TV subsidiary of True Corporation, is moving aggressively to promote its HDTV (high-definition television) service to expand its foothold in the new segment.

The strategic move is aimed at differentiating its services from other cable broadcasters and adding value to the existing services, said Noppadol Dej-Udom, group chief financial officer of True Corporation.

Currently, HDTV broadcasts are not available in Thailand whether on cable TV or free TV.

TrueVisions was the first to launch three such channels out of its 110 cable programmes in total.

As well, Mr Noppadol said TrueVisions was preparing to apply for a cable-TV licence with either the National Telecommunications Commission or the National Telecommunications and Broadcast Commission.

He said True was now confident about the HDTV market potential in Thailand after signing up 12,000 subscribers to the service during the one-month World Cup tournament.

The company planned to introduce dozens of HDTV channels this year under its annual budget of 500 million baht.

Unpopular channels will be taken off the air and replaced with an HDTV channel since one HDTV channel will take up the resources normally required by three regular cable channels.

Mr Noppadol said TrueVisions had set a revenue growth target of 5% to 6% this year, up from 10 billion baht last year, helped by a new advertisement revenue stream, a lower interest cost as a result of the recent debt refinancing and a lower tax payment.

It booked a net profit of 1 billion baht last year.

TrueVisions had targeted advertising revenue of between 700 million and 1 billion baht this year but has revised it down 600 million baht in light of the political mayhem. It earned 80 million baht in ad revenue in the first quarter of this year and 100 million in the second quarter.

He added TrueVisions is expected to save 200 million baht in interest cost following the successful 9.7-billion-baht debt refinancing.

TrueVisions has secured 12 billion baht in baht-denominated loans from four local banks at an interest rate of 5.3%, compared with 7.7% previously.

Mr Noppadol said the refinancing also reduced the risk on foreign currency fluctuations and facilitated cash flow.

It also eliminated duplicated financial roles of businesses under the TrueVisions group.

True Group currently has 67 billion baht in debts. Of the total, True Move, the mobile phone flagship, accounts for 26 billion, TrueVisions 12 billion with True Online and others sharing the remaining burden.

Can you return it and buy a LG ? A couple of my friend have this one , I forget the exact model but it is a newer one . Price about 6000 baht at central . Bring in about 7 or 8 different movies on mkv on a dvd and test the unit to make sure that it plays them .

Was it by any chance that you were trying to play an mkv rip of Avatar ? Because they had some issues with most version of that rip playing , even the legit bluray of Avatar caused a lot of problems with many different bluray players .

Did you really think that TRUE would miraculously change their attitude towards their customers when they introduced HDTV . . . . . ! It was blatantly obvious from the start that the same problems would occur on the HD Channels, countless repeats of movies and bad quality picture (stretched to fit) nearly exactly the same as for the normal channels but with an extra price. I'm sorry that you had to find out the hard way! I know its hard to get away from TRUE here in Thailand due to the monopoly, but there are other options available. For me living here there is only one option and that is ASTRO TV, I get 8 HD channels with a further 2 on the way in the next month or so. Yes the initial set up costs aren't cheap, but after that all you have to do is pay for a yearly viewing card which works out quite a lot less than TRUE. And all legal by the way, look it up at any reputable satellite service installers

I don't think I said that I thought True Vision would change their attitudes , however to be honest I didn't think that they would repeat sports event over and over again without showing live sports that they are showing on the regular sdtv channels .

The only thing that I was interested in watching from True was live sports on HD but they of course have managed to botch that as well .

I don't want HBO movie channel much as I download higher quality mkv TV and movies from the net , so really I just wanted to watch some live sports , that's about it .

I live in Chiang Mai and there is no Astro here as far as I know or believe me I would not use True .

What a disapointment it has been so far . World cup no English commentary of course , most of the HBO movies are not HDTV but just sdtv stretched to fit .

The sports channel programming is almost complete reruns of last years sports , last years NFL , last years NHL , last years Soccer still showing the French Tennis open weeks after it ended .

Mean while no golf at all , infact except for some UFC , I have not seen one live sports event since the world cup ended . True had an opportunity to attract a lot of new customers with the world cup in HD , but if they don't get their shit together pretty soon they will lose most of them . A complete waste of money and I will cancel it as soon as my contract ends .

Would be nice if you could order it with side airbag curtains , comes with them or is an option in the West, but cannot get them here . I guess Ford and Toyota and most of the other makes figure life is cheap here so why bother

Truevisions isn't perfect by any means but the lack of English commentary for the World Cup isn't their fault and I for one am grateful for their significant investment in the the live rights for the EPL (which thankfully does have English commentary).

Well even if it is not Truevisions fault that there is no English commentary for the World Cup (and I will believe that if and when FIFA confirms that they would not let True Visons broadcast it in English ) Truevisions handled this very poorly . If when they had started to advertise the World Cup in English language newspapers and on tv in English , letting everyone know that they wanted to have an English feed but were not able to because of FIFA , then I think people would have understood and not bitched (well we would have bitched at FIFA instead lol) . But instead they waited until the last second as far as I can tell to explain their position .

Good point on the WC games as torrents - I am sure they'll crop up all over the internet immediately following a match, and with so many people downloading should be very fast.

I guess I'm just too lazy; I'll do 6 months of True (after that I get the deposit back) and then look at other options. What's C band and how is one to get it? Is that one of those dishes with a fixed install cost and no monthly? Have one of those in my country home, definitely good enough for the soaps and Thai "news", which like all TV "news" is just another version of soaps;

I don't watch TV except sports. I guess all I'd need is a HD sports sat ... and AFAIK True is my only choice for that.

I am not going to watch sports "streaming" over my internet - quality way too bad, it's like SD but with the occasional total freeze - not my idea of fun.

Now torrenting them in HD after the game is a pretty good idea. Just not live, and probably only works for the WC. I don't think, for example, Wimbledon can be torrented - not enough people uploading this kind of thing. All in all, 2000 baht / month for True isn't all that bad if you consider that the HD box alone (standalone Dreambox) costs about 16,000 baht. Torrents vs TV then gets to be a trade-off of time vs money. Again 2000 baht / month isn't that much if you look at it like that. I'll catch the world cup, Wimbledon, and the US Open, then it's goodbye True again

I pretty much agree with everything that you said . True visons is pretty much a joke , nobody there really knows what the hel_l is going on or how to do their job , talk to 10 different people there and you will get 10 different answers . Well there was no Thai commentary for about the first 10 minutes or so on when I changed it to English but now it is back to Thai commentary on both the English and Thai settings . So either this is a mistake that they will soon correct or its just the usual bull shit from True where one hand does not know what the other hand is doing .

I am pretty sure too that all the games will end up as torrents. love those mkv files the quality is great. I know it is not live but at least will have english commentary and don't have to stay up till 1.30 in the morning to watch.

I feel the same way , it would have been nice to watch the games live with English commentary , but it does not look like that is going to happen unless we can find an internet commentary that is insync with the pic here and that might be very difficult .

Well, my Thai neighbors "who have plenty of money" are dumping their TrueVisions system and Gold subscription today (they don't think the programming is worth the monthly cost) and installing a 3 outlet C Band system today. Now I will admit my neighbors don't really care about CNN, farang soap show reruns, etc.,...they just want Thai shows & news. Their C Band investment will pay for itself in approx 6 months due to no more TrueVisions monthly subscription cost--and they will still have TV even when it rains!

when you really look at true visions line up you are better off with C-band for the wife's soapies and download all the very latest U.S. U.K. & AUS shows in HD.

As you say a PSI setup costs less in the long run and no rain interference.

Hope all the World Cup games end up as torrents in HD.

I think that you will be able to find all the World Cup games on very high quality mkv files within a very short time of ending . I download all the tv shows and movies from various files sharing networks in close to bluray quality . The only reason that I ordered truevisions was to watch live sports in hdtv but they just cant seem to get their shit together in this regard . They interupt live coverage of games to show week old replays of other tennis . Just no rhyme nor reason to it , there is no use calling true and compaining as trying to reason with them or get an explaination for the logic in what they are doing is like trying to reason with an 2 year old child .

I have asked many times to talk to a supervisor or manager and they have never being available but of course they were there , they just did not want to talk to an irate subscriber .

Very sad that a company this size is being run by incompetent ninnies .
