Regardless of various posters feelings towards China, I say light'em up! Without having taken a formal survey, I think the world has just had enough of the death and carnage and misery brought about by Daesh. Some one needs to step up to the plate with this scourge. The US, UK and EU don't seem to have the balls (for obvious reasons--appeasing their electorate). What happened to nation states? I.e. this is China, America, Moldova, wherever. You want to stay? You have to play by our rules.
China is big enough and powerful enough to just not give a #$/*. And I will be personally grateful to them for picking up the pieces of over nearly a century of poorly informed, poorly planned and belligerent foreign policy from the "West."

This just in! New stats on infection: every one in two and a half men are HIV positive.

Pray they are given asylum in S. Korea. Certain death awaits them if sent back to the North.

Bottom line: airlines don't trust the locals to follow any government directives for the sake of public safety.
Hence the cancellations.

Well at least someone (Mario Hardy) has acknowledged that the Erawan Shrine bombings were terrorist attacks. But then again, he is a foreigner. What does he know?

As usual, Thailand has responded (as it does to all international tragedies and emergencies) with shameless self-interest--"Thais would never do this," or "it will have little effect on tourism," or "other nations/foreign nationals have brought these ills upon themselves."
It seems the rest of the world can only dare to dream to be virtuous beacons of liberty, equality and fraternity as Thailand is.
Puke!

Another day another crackdown.
Here is an idea: if everybody was doing their jobs and enforcing rules, regulations and laws there would be no need for crackdowns.
Don't they realize that everytime they announce a crackdown they are shouting, "We don't know what we are doing!" or "We know what we are doing! How do you think we can afford al these nice cars on a civil servants salary?"
Either way, it looks bad. But they obviously don't give a rats arse.

Predicted this statement yesterday in another thread.
I guess if you keep telling the same lies over and over again...

Can't wait for the usual TAT "the Paris-attacks will not harm Thai- tourism"- announcement!
Expect Minister Kobkarn to jump on this ASAP. I expect there will be an announcement by Tuesday: Thailand-Ebola and Terrorism free.

Nice of the authorities to let those with nefarious plots know which border crossing NOT to pass through!

May we pause and reflect on the pain and anguish being experienced by those who have lost loved ones? As well, may we also pay tribute to the brave French security forces that put themselves in harms way and saved countless lives last night? Nothing has been mentioned in these posts about their swift response or the countless lives they have saved.
I believe their moral commitment and sense of duty to help anyone in distress sums up the chasm that exists between a culture that gives and sacrifices for what is morally right and a culture that takes innocent lives for personal gain.
RIP to victims. Condolences to loved ones.
Never back down.

Wanted to join in with my own "wacky" banter. But you have all "beat" me to it.
-
RIP. I hope the family will have some recourse through the Thai civil courts.
Appalling state of affairs.

Good to see the PM has chosen a different part of his body to speak from this time. As most times he speaks, it comes out all muffled unless he stands up.

Paid thugs of any colour and political persuasion belong behind bars as do their benefactors.
The challenge for Thailand is having a legitimately elected bipartisan gov't and judiciary that locks ALL of the power players up (preferably in the same cell). This would be the ultimate act of reconciliation that may afford the Kingdom to move forward one day.
Sadly, these conditions are difficult to attain even in the most robust and vibrant liberal democracies.
So I won't hold my breath as the pendulum of power continues to swing to and fro in the tragic Kingdom.

You must be living under a rock. Yes they have to pass tests nowThe evidence that she would not have passed her driving test in any first and second world countries...
Yes, but in Thailand Thais don't have to pass any driving test to get a driving licence and to be allowed to drive.
Yes! And for a 500 baht gratuity to the examinor, everyone can drive!

RIP to the victim. Condolences to family. Speedy recovery to other victims.
When are these minivans going to be stopped? Possibly the worst and most dangerous drivers EVER!
In the "hub of crackdowns," taking these speed demons off the road should be a top priority.

Post self-removed.

RIP big fella.

So wait a minute. Is this their reasoning? Because ppl use social media to bring to light and discuss Thailand's social ills, if they get rid of social media then all the problems will be solved and disappear??
Once social media is banned, what will they blame it on next? Will they blame it on the rain??? Or just blame it on the boogie??

Collecting finger prints from police, law enforcement, military personnel and anyone else that wants a job to carry a gun for the government, should be the first step in the application process for such a job. In many Western countries this is common practice and necessary. After all, you don't want someone wanted for a crime becoming law enforcement or military personnel ! Amazing Thailand!
Yes, and any job in which you are dealing with "vulnerable sectors" of the public. I.e. children, elderly, disabled etc.

The Junta spin is superficial and unconvincing. I'm trying to be nice.
At least they quoted a foreign diplomat this time in his own words instead putting words in his mouth. However, for the paper that published this article to infer the envoy was "upbeat," is quite a stretch given what he was quoted as saying.
On another note, love the pic and Prayuth's use of the Jedi force: "You WILL say you stand behind me and my roadmap."

"Two years ago, the victim's family called for a speedy investigation into the murder, which prompted the DSI to treat it as a special case."
This may sound cynical, but I wonder how much reward money was offered by the victim's family? Seems a bit strange the RTP would sit on their hands for 6 years and then suddenly take a renewed interest in the case based only on the pleas of a bereaved family (when no such special consideration as a "special case" was given in other cases with equally devastated families).

Here is a novel idea: police deploy POLICEMEN to CATCH criminals
