  1. You can take it out. Easier with an open loop system as when they install a closed loop system they have to drill holes in the inlet manifold for the injectors. Open loop you just need a new rubber hose from the air cleaner to the manifold.

But why take it out unless the boot/trunk space is at a premium? Just use LPG if the car has it fitted.

Normal motherhood stuff about buying used cars applies.

i'm just not too keen thinking that my boot space is halved! haha

am looking to purchase a used e300ce year 1992.

    any comments on this car?

  2. You have to do a lot of miles/kms to save on the initial installation cost

I have two trucks with LPG. A cheap open loop conversion, like a taxi, costs about 20,000 or less and more expensive closed loop "injection" system cost 35,000 up. No difference in performance or fuel usage.

Tank can be in the spare wheel well under the carpet but then what to do with the spare? If SUV you can mount the spare on the back. Conventional tank takes up 1/3 to half the boot/trunk like it does in a taxi.

LPG is about 13 baht/litre. 45l tank lasts about 250 - 320 km about 1.8 - 2 baht / km in my trucks. Costs about 500 - 600 baht to fill up from "empty".

Spark plugs need to be changed about every 10,000 kms at oil change, if using synthetic oil.

Where you get it fitted depends on where you live?

Lots of LPG stations in BKK and nationwide, more appearing every month. If downtown there is one on Rama IV up from Tesco, on Sukumvit Soi 71 on Rama 9 road etc.

"I don't want to drive around with a bomb in my car" is the usual comment from the uninitiated who drive around with 45 litre of gasoline under their rear seatwhistling.gif

You can send me a PM if you like.

    nice write up.

so I guess it's relatively safe to buy a used car with the "bomb" in the boot?

I can remove it too right?

    ^_^

  3. Dear all,

I've seen many cars that are installed with LPG.

DO they really help save fuel costs?

I'm very new to Bangkok. Are there many LPG top up stations in Bangkok?

Can I remove the LPG if I do not want it?
    The tanks are bad-ass huge!

  4. dear all,

if i do not have a valid thai driver's licence, can i register a car(new or used) under my name?

Can I use my Singapore Driver's licence to get validity to register the car for insurance as well or do I need to do some conversion first before I can own a vehicle?

I'll most probably be holding an ED Visa by the time I want to purchase a car.

You can purchase a car in Thailand if you have all the correct requirements my guess is it's best to ask where you want to buy the car.

With most foreign licences having a Photo of you and written in English you can drive up to 90 days after that you need to get a Thai driving licence.

Anybody staying in Thailand and wanting to drive the most approved way is to go and get a Thai driving licence.

understood! so i can just take a test to get a thai licence or?

    sorry for the dumb question

  5. honda stream and honda odyssey is a good and safe choice

toyota wish is good as well

The Stream is a possibility, but only a few below 300k and I think they are 6 seaters only.

Also they are 99% auto box, so that would mean breaking my rule of no 10yr autos.....

The Wish is beyond budget and also only 6 seater.

autobox for stream is relatively safe I feel. Just make sure you know how to make pre-purchase auto tranny checks.

4 speed gearboxes are mostly safe.

Else, even if it fails, it wouldn't cost much to overhaul the gearbox.

Hondas and Toyotas are always safer buys, IMO.

  6. Dear All,

I would like to know how is the road tax system in Thailand calculated?

By vehicle age and engine capacity right?

How would a 1998 Honda Accord 2.2 road tax cost?

Is there a standard calulator for this?

As for insurance, must I have coverage just after I purchase a car, be it used or new?

or I can purchase the insurance afterwards?

    Thanks!! ^_^

  7. Dear All,

What are the investment funds in Thailand that are worth investing in?

I'm looking into Govt bonds as well as Gold

Are these 2 worth my time at all?

    Returns on both instruments?

Am more into gold as I feel that gold is currently at a relatively low price now and worth investing in for the long term?

However, I don't have much though, maybe around 1 million baht only.

    Feedback most appreciated!

  8. are the car dealers at one2car any good?

am looking at the possibility of purchasing a used old Honda civic or accord (sub 200K) to use for 1 year or so.

Either that or I'm looking at an old C class or e-class (pre 2000) models

After which, do the dealers take old cars for trade in?
