  1. So here's my situation that is about to come..

Early next year 2019, I & my wife & 2 kids would be moving back to Thailand, Northern of Thailand to be exact. My wife is a Thai, my kids have dual citizenship and Thai being one of them. I've stayed for years in Thailand for many years, about a decade ago but under student visa and/or non-immigrant O and/or thai visa run-style (that was before military coup). But never once i've applied for work in Thailand, neither has any prior knowledge of work permit and how to obtain them.

Shall thing goes according to the plan, I & wife will start working at silver factory down in the northern of Thailand. The company has never once hired any foreigner since it started and i was one of the lucky few who got accepted to deal with international e-commerce to reach International consumers. My job does not exactly require me to be physically present at the company. I am, however, responsible to input all +20.000 variety of products into the websites (alibaba, ebay, amazon, lazada).

    Now,

    1. What should i do to stay a long as possible in Thailand (with my wife & kids because they will restart kindergarten due to school-transfer)?

    2. What kind of visa should i acquire from Thailand embassy/consular in my country (Indonesia)? Normally i acquire Non-Immigrant O in Bali for 3 months stay and leave the country until the next homecoming. But this time i might need to stay a lot longer without the need to fly in/out of the country once in every 3 months. Even if i were to extend Non-Immigrant Visa O in Bangkok, at best i would only be getting 60 days extension. (Yes, i did it multiple times in the past). Border run would only get me 30 days at most.

    3. I am unable to apply for marriage visa or for that matter, any visas with 1 year validity due to 400.000 baht bank account. Any other visa that i can apply IF my company can issue "work permit"?

    4. For the company that's about to hire me, what do they need to do (any paperwork/documents) to prepare to issue the "first" work permit for myself? They have no liaison officers to help me regarding immigration matter, therefore i need to do things all by myself. They have about +200 local employees at the moment of this writing.

    5. I've been told that to acquire work permit and immigration officer legalizes it, the company MUST pay me at least 40.000 baht/month for 3 consecutive months? Is this true? I highly doubt for first starter, i'll be getting 40K per month as salary.

    6. For the record, my Thai wife stays and obtained 5-year stay permit through "middleman" who did all the work for a $400 in my country. At most we did was show up at the immigration office, took ID photo, & signed a document then went home and wait for the middlemen to deliver the 5-year long visa stay. Is the any possibility this practice might be available in Thailand?

I appreciate any help regarding my case.

    Thank you

  2. Soon i'll be moving to Thailand with my family, a wife and 2 daughters. I need few suggestions from respected thaivisa forumers regarding purchasing car in Thailand.

    1. My job might require me to travel long distance every now and then, quite possibly travelling from/to Bangkok - Northern Thailand at least once a week (~1500KM roundtrip per week). For such case, should i opt to buying second hand car OR totally brand new car? My budget is limited to 600-800K baht.

    2. Any suggestions cars with 7-seater for family to choose from? Please give me your recommendation of the brand and product line. I prefer something like Toyota Avansa or Daihatsu Xenia type as they pricing are within 600-800K baht for brand new and quite spacious for family travel. But i wonder if they are good for occasional long distance travelling? I have no knowledge of car mechanism and absolutely do not want to get stranded with a dead car in the middle of nowhere.

    3. What are the required documents do i need to prepare to buy new or second hand car? Am i oblige to buy car insurance? How is the payment term?

    4. How do i apply for Thai Driving License? My wife & kids are Thai, she has her own driving license but mine isnt Thai-issued.

    5. This is just a hypothetical question; as said above that i dont have any prior knowledge on car repairement, what car's brand is best for its wide array of service center? Or at least what car has lesser probability of ever giving me headache regarding its machine?

    Thank you for any suggestion.

You can get a 60 day extension from Immigration. 1,900 Baht fee.

Leaving the country and returning will get you 30 days.

Another option would be to obtain a Multi Entry Non Imm O Visa from  Savanakhet Laos.  5,000 Baht fee.

This would get you around 15 months but would mean a border run every 90 days.

Hi, thanks for the reply. Would you recommend me Immigration office in Bangkok? i've only known Chaengwattana Complex Government Building and it's quite a distance from the hospital i'm living. Is there any intermediary service to help me extend the visa?

Since you are married to a Thai you can apply for a 60 day extension to visit her. No financial proof would be needed. Your wife will need to be with you when your apply. You will need your marriage certificate plus a copy, copies of your wife's house book registry and ID card.

You will also need proof your are living in Bangkok.

Since the 31st of December you would get a 30 day entry at a border crossing. The 15 day entry rule was revoked then.

Hi, i am currently reside in Bangkok, been living in hospital guest house for weeks now. With exception of my thai wife wouldnt be able to travel with me to government building, all documents are ready to accomodate my visa extension. I even have my Thai child passport with me.

My visa is non immigrant type 0 single entry (not multiple entry), would that still make me be eligible to 60 days extension?

And which office do you recommend me to extend the visa in Bangkok? i only know Chaengwattana and that building is huge and sometime i found myself lost there. I'd prefer if there is any intermediary services that can help me cater for the extension, hence i can spend more time with my family in the hospital.

    Thanks for the advices.

  5. Thank you for all replies. at the moment, my wife wouldnt be able to travel to any government places to accompany me. my visa is SINGLE ENTRY typo O with 90 days validity, soon to reach the 80th day.

I was told border run would only get me 14 days top.. but i'd prefer if i could simply visit Chaengwattana (did i get the office right?) government complex building and extend my visa. I would be very much grateful if i can apply for 60 days instead of 30 days (as of now i only need 30 days but i cant guarantee to stay less or more than 30 days).

And one more thing, if i were to extend my visa as earlier as possible (instead of waiting for the 90th day), would they count the extention from the moment i submit my passport (say i submit/apply for visa extension on the 80th day -- gives me 10 days head start)? or would they extend my length of my stay counting off from the 90th day regardless when my passport was submitted?

  6. Dear all,

Due to medical reasoning of my wife and my Non-Immigrant Type O (90 days) visa will soon come to expire, i am wondering if i can get visa extension from Chaengwattan Immigration Office for another 30 days?

I was told that if i cross border (Laos or Cambodia) a.k.a thaivisarun, i could only get 14 days top. I am Indonesian and currently stayed in the hospital.

I have tried countless times to call Chaengwattana office but no luck. I would very much appreciate if anyone know any contact number (preferably personal contact of any immigration officer).

Please help me because if i cant get 30 days visa extension, i might need to contact my airline to arrange a flight to nearby country (Malaysia), in and out in the same day. And if it is possible for me to extend my 90 days visa, what documents do i need to prepare?

And by the way, i am married to Thai women but i cant provide bank statement shows at least 400K baht and/or minimum monthly income of 40K baht. My child is Thai citizen. I have every documents related to our marriage.

Other than Chaengwattana Gov House, is there any office in Bangkok that i could get extension of 30 days visa? (Marriage visa would be a blessing if i could obtain, but i dont think i am eligible for it yet).

    Thank you for any advices.

    Regards

  7. I've lived almost 11 years in Thailand, had my bachelor degree in Thailand, have many Thai friends, my wife is Thai, constantly i'm hearing Thai from my relatives, and my Thai language is probably a D- for speaking/grammar, D for listening, and F for reading/writing. My brother who's finishing his bachelor degree in Thailand, more fluently in Thai than me. I guess there's called Language Skill on everybody.

  8. Dear ALL,

I'm an Indonesian and my wife is Thai. Recently we just had our first newborn in Bangkok. It took us nearly 2 weeks for the hospital to issue Thai birth certificate due to current Bangkok Shutdown. After that, i HAD to use an agency to deal with English Translation + legalization by MFA (took only 3 working days and sent via EMS)... which i came to believe that doing so myself would probably take weeks, several travelling attempts to get queue number.

Since i live close to passport office nearby Pinklao, question is: how is the queue in that Pinklao office? The passport is for my 3 weeks old daughter, whom we might need to travel back to Indonesia soon. All documents are ready, except no queue number just yet. I am thinking to use some agency to help get the passport done soon. Any advices which trustworthy agency should i use? (websites, addresses, phone number, emails, are very much appreciated). Of course, shall the queue in Pinklao back to normal (like 3-4 months ago), then i guess we wouldn't need to use agency services.

    Thank you.
