  1. Luxury studio for 3.5K Baht a month? Umm... no. Unless you define luxury as "somewhere that cockroaches live"- in which case, go right ahead.

I never saw any cockroaches. My last apartment in CM was 3500 and it was really nice. Solid wood floors with an incredible balcony view. If I recall correctly the utility bill was rather low as well since CM is so cool.

I think you're all a bit jealous of my apartment finding skills. I'm able to secure 3* accomodation in Thailand for just US$100 a month(3500 baht) while the rest of you are paying 2-3x the amount. clap2.gif

  2. Four guys coming to a city with cheaper rent than anywhere in America, and they want to share? I would recommend "re-education." And are we to assume that your visa gives you permission to stay as long as the lease you are willing to sign? I'm sure your credit reports would be interesting reading, also. We've got 32 sm condos with balconies for 4000 thb, with government rate on electric. I think there are probably too many beautiful 20+ yo girls for your liking, though.

$500 isn't very cheap. I can find $300/month studios in my hometown. So I think you should do a LOT better in a 3rd world country price wise. I try to search for apartments in the $50-$100 range.

  3. Chiang Mai & Pattaya. You can get a nice apartment in CM for 3,500-5,000 a month. In Pattaya you can find a nice place for 4,000-5,000 a month. I have had good times in both places. CM is not as excitingsmile.png , but for living as an expat it is better and the temptation to waste money at the bars is less.

Are you sure about pattaya? I just stayed at view talay Jomtien studio 37 sqm and it was an older place with crappy cane furniture 8500bht with shit internet. Where abouts in Pattaya?

Not that hard. Should be able to find a little air-conditioned Thai apartment for 4-5k a month. I stayed at a place on soi bongkot and the rent there was 5k a month. Nirun has a few units too at that price range if you do some searching. And there are other places scattered about town, mostly Thais living there and the odd farang expat.

  4. I don't think anybody wants their country to be overrun by foreigner races/cultures. It doesn't make you a bad person to be proud of your ethnicity/culture and to want to protect it. And for the record, countries like Japan and Israel have never accepted refugees. Only limp wristed, guilt feeling countries(you can guess which ones).

  5. Plenty of jobs out there but most are paying close to minimum wage. Unfortunately, the good times(if you can call them that) won't last much longer. When the business cycle peaks things will be very very ugly. The same old cycle will begin. Stock market crashes. Fed cuts interest rates to negative. The 'recovery' starts and more good jobs are lost and replaced by hamburger flipping jobs.

  6. with 300 $ you live better in Thailand than with 2000$ in the states.

in the USA you need at least 3000.

You must live in a high cost area of the US. $10,000 a year is easily possible(poverty line for 1) in much of the country. I can get a $325/month apartment in my hometown(aircon included). Add $150/month for food. Car is not required. Plenty live on even less. That kind of lifestyle would still cost less in Thailand though since you could find a decent apartment for $100 a month(1/3rd of us cost).

  7. $300 THB/mo is a living wage for most average Thais here in the LOS. I know plenty of Thais who live on that much, and they are far from miserable.

Maybe not , but they have an extended family , they live in the family house and share the income with each other to survive until the next month .

If you live alone it's a completeley different matter.

Why would living alone make any difference? They can get an extremely basic room for as little as 1000 baht a month. They don't pay farang prices(i.e. 5000 a month rent). 10,000 is normal wages and they can live on it just fine.

  8. Nirun is best if you can find a room for around ~4k monthly. I have not found a condo with a better location to be honest. Walkable to pretty much everywhere in town.

I once stayed in a Thai room in Pattaya for about 3,000 monthly, but it was a hellhole. No aircon, dirty walls, wild dogs outside that would fight everyday.. I wouldn't recommend it. Less than 4k in Pattaya won't get you much. But 5k can get you something decent. I stayed at a place on Soi Bongkot that was pretty decent. Had aircon, wifi, tv, fridge, everything and brand new for 5k monthly. No pool though. There are a few on that road. Some even as little as 4k with tv and aircon. Thai style stuff.

  9. I could not stand to live on that little either. But $600 a month(21,000 baht/month) is quite comfortable(my budget). That is about the minimum I could tolerate in Thailand. Below that, you're basically living a threadbare existence, eating mama noodles, etc. So, although the cost of living in Thailand is lower, there are limits for me and I'm used to living a pretty basic existence in Thailand.

  10. 2000 thb for monthly rent in Phatthanakan area near the skylink line.

Room: 35 sqm with ceiling fan plus a small room for storage. Decent bathroom, no kitchen, two balconies, 3rd (top) floor.

I cycle to nearby huge Tesco around 9-10 pm almost every day. Many Thais go there at the same time to catch the late discount deals. Cheapy food prices drop from 50 to 2 (yes 2) and up to 10 bath per item regarding salads, vegetables, fish, soups, fruits, pizzas, milk, donuts etc

I don't drink alcohol. My Thai gf brings me a well cooked meal everyday since her school is 2 minutes walk...she's teaching there.

When going downtown I use the railway. 2 to 3 baht per trip to Makasan, Asoke, Phaya Thai etc.

Around 4000 to 5000 the most I believe.

    48 btw.

Just wait somebody will say... "but but but you can't get anything for less than 15,000 a month in Bangkok".. coffee1.gif

Funnily enough, I have seen places for 1200 a month in Bangkok. Wifi included in the deal. Could possibly beat them down to below a crisp 1,000 note.
