I'm in a similar situation as you are. Just returned from living in Thailand after several years. Got a job on the assembly line in my own country and I'm looking to move back to Thailand next year with 1-2 million baht saved. Having property bought and paid for will help make up for my low income. I make some money online but it is just enough to pay for food and some basic travel expenses. Unfortunately, there are not many jobs in Thailand available to foreigners other than teaching. For me, teaching is not the right way to go. But I hear you can still get a teaching job without a degree.

Spoiled hookers, traffic jams, high real estate prices? Sounds fun(not).
-
My friend, 2 years is nothin' compared to what some guys have "accomplished"..
-
10million baht? Insane. I'd be worried about investing even 500k baht in a property. Renting a loom for 4,000 baht a month is risky enough for me.
-
I give my wife 16,000 baht per month. It is probably what a standard job in Thailand pays. So I think it's adequate to provide for food, etc.
If I had a farang wife I don't know what they'd expect in terms of finances. Do they expect money every month too? I have never had a "farang" wife so I don't know.

Search in Naklua for Thai style rooms(fan). 2-3k baht a month. Fan rooms are the best value for money option in Thailand. On the other hand, you could spend 25,000 baht a month by visiting the real estate

Nearly impossible to be homeless in Thailand. You can get a room for <2k/baht per month. You could probably rent a cheap dorm room for an incredibly low amount. Or sleep in McDonalds.
-
Even a retard with a job at McDonalds(or none) can find a wife in Thailand or Philippines. Trust me. You will get laid. You will find a wife. This is the easiest part of the world to find a mate I can think of. Don't stress it too much. I give my wife 16,000 baht(US$450) a month and she's happy with that amount. All women expect some sort of financial compensation so get used to it. That does not mean you have to give them everything they want. Just give what you can afford.
-
Good riddance. Hopefully when I come back next year they'll be 99% gone.
-
Are her monetary requests realistic? I think every Thai woman is going to require at least a little bit of financial maintenance. Women aren't free. No money no honey as they say.
-
Overstay 86 days and get caught? You're a fool. Overstay 5 years and pay 20,000 baht at the airport and return the next day? You're a genius.

I thought the unemployment rate was the lowest in the world. 1%? Should be able to snap his fingers and get a job tomorrow.
-
I came to Thailand as a virgin at age 25. I could not get laid in the U.S(possibly the most anti-sex country on earth). I made my first sex tourism trip to Pattaya and I got the deal done for just 500 baht(short time
). Well, whole experience transformed my life forever. I eventually found a Thai wife so going to Thailand to get laid ended up being the best decision I ever made.

Keep at least 500k baht in cash somewhere(i.e. your condo room). It should be in big denomination foreign currency so it's easier to hide. I prefer cash as I just don't trust banks.

Cambodians & Burmese. Are they "expats"?
-
I'm guessing they might want actual English teachers that look like they came from England(not just ones that can speak English)
. Either that or they might think you are a Filippino.
Sorry about the job. There are no p.c.(political correctness) laws in Thailand.

It's been a ghost town for at least 7 years. It started to go down the toilet around 2008(financial crisis). Won't recover until the Baht goes to 40-50 to the USD and likewise for the Euro.

guys, i need the bar to be set low. i mean really low. i'm green i've got no degree no experience and no personality. i'll just show up for the job and they'll have to take what i've got(which is about nothing).
-
hey can u help me get a job too? i don't have a degree either. i'm just looking for an extra paycheck. i wanna do it part time.

What is this nonsense?! My wife is a traditional girl from Isaan. She does not have this upper class snob attitude. She is a simple lady. What man wants to marry a rich snob??? All he is going to get is ridiculous income requirements($50k minimum, etc) like we do in the West. I'll have none of it.

How can they export more than Malaysia? That country has a much better exchange rate than Thailand now by about 10%.

there is no future for thai people in the USA, once you are gone for good , they will go back to Thailand. it s all in your head. nobody want become an IRS slave.
People are waiting years to get into the USA, risking life and limb to hop borders.
Why? because there are jobs. The lucky ones get in and send funds abroad.
Your making some privledged IRS argument that is laughable.
For many immigrants paying taxes is the last thing on their minds, they just don't file.
Yeah, there are jobs available but not very high paying ones. $9 - $20/hr is typical. Add to that there is only 2 weeks vacation time some jobs offer none, police state silliness, etc. It's simply not a very desirable place to move to anymore.
-
For me , the most important sentence in your story is : " I have an advanced education in Engineering and it was easy to find a very high paying job in the USA" .
That explains a lot . For people without it , it would not be so great.
I have no such degree and I'm doing just fine($40k/yr job). I'm able to afford to travel to Thailand. It would help if you didn't live in high cost places like California and New York where you need to be rich to survive.

This is why you should never burn your bridges with family. Family is so important. If I run out of money in Thailand, I can always move back home with my mother rent free. Room over my head in Thailand = $100 a month. Roof over my head in America: $0 (for me anyways). I returned to Thailand and I was able to get a $40k a year job almost immediately after I returned after 5 years living in Thailand. Never needed to rent an expensive hotel or anything.

He can live in Thailand on 10-15,000 baht a month being a digital nomad. That's realistic first year earnings of a newbie. Move to CM or Isaan and rent a cheap apartment(2k/month) and start making money. That's what I did. Beats living in a dreary country with bad weather doesn't it?
