NZ is running out of money and has to use child labour to kill these feral cats?
How much would it cost for the NZ government to get rid of them?
$153,000 was spent on killing each wallaby on the govt program in Otago. Absolutely insane
We could have hired a private jet for each wallaby and flown them back to Australia for a fraction of that price.
"Government officials stand by $2.76 million spent on wallaby control in Otago, despite only 18 recorded wallaby kills recorded in the area, saying preventing a large infestation is “not wasted money”.
They Taxpayers’ Union released a statement on Tuesday morning saying taxpayers should be “hopping mad” about a $153,000 kill cost per wallaby in Otago, after it received data of the wallaby spend and kills from Biodiversity NZ.
“Taxpayers and Otago Regional Council ratepayers have forked out $2.76m and more than 26,000 hours of work for a wallaby control programme that killed just 18 wallabies,” executive director Jordan Williams said."

Other than bias, what is your opinion based on?
I also know nothing of aircraft, so have no opinion on which may be better.
Probably best to use cars as a comparison as we know what they are like.
The US fighters had a burnished/polished finish and rivets (few exposed) joins etc or seemed to fit with the streamlining. They looked every part of what they were.
The Soviet craft looked like they came out of a tractor factory with the same standard as you seen on the jeep copies that you see around Patong for hire. They were not in the same class. Maybe not as bad as a Trabant but not great.
It is hard to shed bias but I do try. Maybe the Soviet stuff is up to par in performance but I doubt it.
An example where Soviet utilitarian design is better than Western is in the AK47 and SKS variants.
The US AR15 is much better finished etc but hasn't the reliability of the old AK's. But that is the exception I think, not the rule

It would have been if you told us whom are you referring to, to those of us who are not aviation geeks, here's a question for you, in comparison between a US F16 to a Russian SU35, who do you think will come out the winner in an air battle?
I was amazed looking at American F-16 and F-18 and comparing them to Migs (21, 23 and 29) of the same era and the disparity in build quality was enormous. The American planes were meticulously finished. The Migs look like they came out of a tractor factory, not a standard I would want to fly in.
I took into consideration that the finish may have been to absorb radar.
I know nothing of aircraft and do not claim to, but as a casual observer the big thing I took away from this was that the "Cold War" was basically a con to feed the US Military manufacturing companies. The US was way ahead in tech and quality compared to Soviets in my opinion.

No you definitely do not need a card to purchase at Makro.
I am often asked if i have one though.
One thing to note is that Makro only accept cash as far as I have seen.

What is the benefit of having a Makro Card?
Do you get a cheaper price?
If so, what rate etc.

Driving from Karon to Chalong yesterday and I realised I really look forward to the vista you get from the top of Chalong hill.
As you crest the hill, the bay is spread out before you with boats, small ships and islands set on a lovely coloured sea.
As you go down the hill and curve to the left the view expands to allow you to see all of Chalong and up to Phuket town,
Just stunning.
Drive from Rawai to Patong after about 8pm along the coast road and the many squid boats off the coast with their ultra bright green flourescent lights are a view I've never seen anywhere else.
What are your favourites around the island?

"Banshees of Inisherin"
What a ridiculous depressing movie.
The Irish version of the Icelandic movie "Rams" and just as pointless.
A small village movie can be really entertaining. "Waking Ned Devine" is real comedy and uplifting to watch.

Phuket has many streets where you park on one side of the road on even dates, the other side on odd dates. It would be bit unfair to clamp if these rules are in place wouldn't it?
Have seen the chains going on bikes in Sawadirak Rd after about 7am as they have parked overnight and are now on the wrong side of the road.
Longstanding rule and has been enforced for many years now with chains.

Thanks to everyone for sharing info.
Been on Tamsulosin for 12 months and no discernible benefit.
Only have to get once during the night as prior to taking it.
But ED, which roughly corresponds to the same time period, I had just put down to age and I was never advised of this as a side effect.

Hung Sen has been face to face with New Zealand's Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern.
Ardern's huge PR contingent has advised that she has had a RAT test and has proved negative so far.
Hang on a minute mate,
This is the same woman that made RAT Tests illegal in New Zealand and threatened prison for my wife and I if we brought any back from Thailand.
Her hypocrisy astounds me.

Crashes? Crashes?
Remember the almost weekly bus and truck crashes?
Even put the concrete barrier at the last corner into Patong to catch the buses.
Heavy vehicle drivers who didn't understand changing down gears to brake and then riding the brakes all the way down the hill till they faded.
Been much better over the last few years but that could be just lack of tourists.

Google the "let it rot" movement.
Kids are on to it. That is what is driving the great resignation and let it rot movements. They know that there is absolutely no chance to get ahead now with hard work alone. So they are just doing nothing.
Eventually their numbers (as a mandate) will be greater than the boomer generation. Once that happens there might be a glimmer of hope in truly democratic nations. However in dictatorships such as Thailand there is no future whatsoever.
Not sure I agree
A lot of success (unless you are very lucky or inherit) has got to do with spending habits.
It's not what you earn but what you save and utilise those savings to the best effect.
I am amazed, all my tenants had bigger TV's and newer cars than I had until a couple of years ago.
I don't think many young people have the discipline required.

Agree. I'm not sure when greed became the new norm, but it's not going to end well IMO.
When, in NZ, motels have become "home" for hundreds, if not thousands of families, something is rotten in the "system".
Greed? but on whose part?
When I bought my 1st rental property in NZ the upper tax rate was 66%. The govt let me keep 34c in every dollar I earned. Out of that 34c I had to pay 12.5% GST on all my food, local taxes, everything.
Yes greed it was but by incompetent bureaucrats let loose by even more incompetent politicians.
As to the "motel" situation in NZ now, it is corruption and so often in NZ people are blind to it.
So widespread that the NZ Herald reported 5 separate prosecutions in one week recently. But any "Kiwi" will tell you there is no corruption in NZ. Many heads in that "Long White Cloud"

Thanks for the interesting report KhunLA
Interesting reading what a new owner discovers about driving and consumption of a model.
Like to see you follow up on this thread further down the track as you get more and more accustomed to the vehicle.
Anyone else taking delivery of a new EV or Hybrid?

Not a good look for tourists sadly

I have a pretty simple attitude to investing.
As an example I bought a 2 bedroom brick and tile unit in a good suburb for $200k in Sep 1997
Peak of the market and I paid too much.
Have rented it out since.
But the value??
It is still only worth what a 2 bedroom brick and tile unit in a good suburb sells for, no more.
Valuation today - $820 - $1m showing in market survey but say $700k for a fire sale.
In effect though, you have not had an increase in your asset value because you can only afford the same value property, a 2 bedroom unit in a good suburb, you can't now afford the 5 bedroom sea view property in a prime suburb.
Sure, you use the rent to cover mortgage etc and you pay the mortgage down ASAP but that is your choice in spending what unencumbered money you have.

Its a pretty normal part of the cycle and yes some properties sell but usually they are by vendors who have pressing reasons to sell such as divorce, death, financing a business, going overseas etc,
Seen this before and will probably sell a house in Auckland early next year at whatever the market dictates. Fed up with being unable to evict tenants that frighten neighbours, too many restrictions on good and competent long term landlords.
People have an expectation of what their house is worth, Joe's house down the road sold for $1.2m
so ours must be worth $1.4m. They put it on the market but only get offers of $1m so they decide to stay, pull the house off the market, add on a basement and pool and over capitalise the place.
Eventually they get too old, have to go into a retirement home and sell at the real market price which will have gone up on the upwards side of the cycle.

So 3/4 of an drive hour to get to a location that is geographically located 15 kilometers from you. And on a day with good traffic flow.
Isn't that great?
My home in New Zealand, at 8am, used to take 3/4 of an hour to drive 6.9km and that was with all access routes available. And I had no where to park unless I paid B220.
I just love living in Patong.

I asked the question re going from Patong to BK Hospital on Friday morning?
Left Patong at 8am arrived at 8.45am going through Karon & Chalong.
Really surprised, yes traffic heavier but all moving well.
Heavy traffic going back to Patong and had to do the same trip later in the day but although heavy, the traffic was flowing.
Police doing a reasonable job on Chalong roundabout flowing the traffic around in bursts.
It is sad to see all the cleaning up having to be done. Business owners here have had and are having a real hard time. It must be heartbreaking to see the rain clouds rolling in and destroying your customer base for the day/night.

I don't think that's the case TR, as the bottom of that hill is many kilometres away from any beach! And as I was searching frantically for a way around the melee yesterday, I tried every which way but loose, with little back roads and dirt roads, to try and find a way back into Patong, but to no avail and I've posted about it elsewhere.
I'm taking a friend from Patong to Bangkok Int Hospital Friday so any suugestions for what's the best route and how long should I allow for travel?

Have had CPAP machine for 20 odd years.
Have a ResMed 10 Airsense for the last 5 years with a
BMC P2 Nasal Pillows Interface (available on Lazada for quarter the price of my country)
No real problems, after 5 years it is getting noisy so I will replace shortly.
Use it every night, all night and made a huge difference to my life.
