We visit here often and stay for 60 days with a Tourist Visa. We have to go home for family and business for a month or so, then return.

We have leased apartments long term for our accommodation.

Do we need to register our address with immigration other than showing it on entry? The question arises because we do not stay in a hotel and as things seem to be tighter I need good advice from someone like UbonJoe who seems to have vast knowledge of all the nuances of Thai Immigration.

It has been getting a lot better than it was a few years ago.

and they deserve credit for it. It does help if you are organised and have copies etc with you

Just a note on the photos above of the plane boneyards and the one in Tuscon in particular.

The Davis Monthan Air Force Base has the boneyard there and adjacent to the base is the superb Pima Air Force Museum which has an amazing collection of aircraft. A real must if you like aircraft and a huge and varied range. 

They have a nice cafetaria there so you can spend the day but don't forget Tuscon get pretty hot in the afternoon.

Do the trolley tour of the planes when you first get there and then you can wander around anywhere and inspect any of the countless planes outside and there are 5? huge hangars of planes and stuff as well.

You can arrange your tickets to tour the boneyard through the Pima Museum

WARNING!!  For security they have introduced a new rule. Non US Citizens have to register at least 10 days before the fate they want for security checks. I am not sure whether it applies to US citizens or not.

We were disappointed and will now have to go back next year.

Check on the Pima Air Museum website for accurate info.

That's really great to hear and you are a 100% right, foresight and research are essential and sadly so few people make the effort. (True of any property in any country.

There are success stories I can tell too.

I have friends who have successfully built and developed 6 very nice gated properties complete with swimming pools in each and a very nice place for themselves that is huge (2 pools) and a designers dream and they have had no problems legally but nightmarish tales of maintenance and upkeep. They have been here about 15 years.

Being very conservative and disliking risk in investments, Phuket is way out of my comfort zone and I hate hearing about people who are not in a position to walk away and are having problems

Have a look to see the connnection between who controls your water supply and the water truck delivery company.

Amazing in Patong, the water trucks are all new and dripping with add on mirrors etc, there must be money in delivering water and even more if you can persuade the supply authority to reduce the flow.

The reason to get an International Driving Permit is for your Travel Insurance co.

Just one more excuse they can use to not pay a claim if you have an accident. Not driving on a legal licence.

Yes you can argue with them but if you are in need of treatment, that is not an argument you want to be having.

Got stopped yesterday in Kathu and pulled IDP out of side pocket, went to pull my wallet out for home licence and the cop never even opened the IDP, just handed it back and waved me through.

If you hadn't of stopped it wouldn't have happened.

I certainly wouldn't take kindly to being asked for recompense. You stopped the truck with your dogs in his dogs territory.

Having just driven past the crash site

it is truly amazing people were not killed

It occurred on the Patong side of the Kamala hill at the last downhill right hand curve and the bus

took the guard rail and rolled over the bank to the drive about 4 - 5 metres below landing on the roof and squashing it almost to the bottom of the window frames.

Sad start to the holidays for the injured and it would have been a truly frightening experience.

By the way the traffic jam was still from the Kamala virtually to Patong at 5pm about 10 hours later.

Only if you don't get caught

Last year it was nearly a Pegas bus a day breaking down on the Patong Hill or crashing.

Two buses broken down at the bottom of the hill today but I think they both looked like Chinese tours

Maybe they have all broken down and they are using other branded buses?

Continually surprised at just how low the temperatures are set,

certainly below comfort level for us for any period.

Considering how expensive it is to run air conditioning it makes you wonder why?

Random stops are a part of life anywhere, got stopped twice in Arizona in October by Border Patrol and had to show passports.

If you made an agreement either verbally or written that the rent was due on the 28th why would you not keep to it?

If he is a property manager he probably does monthly returns to his owners and wants the rent paid before the end of the monthso he can deduct his fees and pay the owners. All normal business practice, but it is better if you handle your tenants in a

polite professional manner.

The beauty of Patong is there is always something to do and it is reasonably safe.

Want a burger at 2am, want to go for a lovely beach walk at 6am or just go out for an inexpensive meal in the early evening, its all there.

Western style shopping at Jung Ceylon or wander across the road to Hemingways market to have a very different experience.

Never get bored there

I rented a 900cc Vulcan for several years off a guy in Patong and I wanted, and was happy to pay for, sissy bar and bags but could make no headway as to where to get them. The owner just told me "no can have" and I tried several shops in Phuket town

but saw nothing that came even close.

That was up to 2012 so there may be some source now.

See if you can find a picture with one fitted up with what you want and do a round of the shops with the picture in your

hand. You may find it easier to bring in from another country if you go out.

Liked the bike, just a little big for Patong traffic and threw out a lot of heat on your legs and the passenger's.

When I leave my 250cc twin for a month or more  unused,  the carburetor jets clog up.

Suggested fuel by Thai agent is 95 but I think I have been using 95 ethanol,

Would changing to 95 unleaded stop the jets clogging when I go home?

Any opinions/suggestions?

Another dealer experience with a Lifan 250cc cruiser

I broke the right hand mirror today, my fault, and rode over to the dealer in Phuket Town.

Replaced the mirror and stem, adjusted clutch, tightened chain, checked tyre pressures all with a big smile and

presented with a bill of 350B all up.

Wow, I didn't realise tourists came to Phuket only for the chairs. Here's me thinking there was so much more to see and do. Oh, no chairs on Australian beaches, with thousands of tourists coming and enjoying them.

Made the mistake of going to Bondi about 1988 and frying for about 2 hours before we left, never to return.

All holidays since have been to deck chair/umbrella destinations and happy to spend the money.

If Aussie's are so happy with no chairs on their beaches how come so many

come to Thailand & Bali when, on the whole, their beaches are better.

I've got a Lifan 250 which I have been delighted with so far.

2 years old and 6500km and only one problem

The rear brakes locked the rear wheel up intermittently and I got Lifan in Phuket to pick it up and they brought it back with new rear shoes fitted and cost of 590B plus I tipped the guy who returned it.

Delightful to ride and we are both a bit heavier than you and your wife. The shocks could be a bit harder but in ordinary riding no problem, just a couple of real deep potholes where we have bottomed out on. Apparently one of the Yamaha shocks will fit according to one of the posters on here. Riding in Patong is really hard on a bike as you are constantly changing gear and there are a lot of hills where we ride daily and using the engine for braking a lot, I have been thinking that with the weight running against the engine down hill, the gearbox might slip out of gear but no sign of that, touch wood.

You are right, you probably need to find someone who is competent with them although they do seem pretty simple mechanically so anyone with four stroke experience should be able to handle most stuff.
