I take my earlier comments back.
Looks like the rider ran a red light: https://www.facebook.com/reel/675045872020447
This completely changes the story. Someone not wearing a helmet is only dangering themselves, but red light runners are scum and deserve to get run over.
That said, the police should still consider the innocent passenger.

The police did not cause an accident. The driver of the bike caused the accident when he refused to stop. The head injuries to the passenger were caused by them illegal not wearing a helmet. You seem to be on the side of the people breaking the law. What does that say about you.
It says in the article it was (allegedly) not a real checkpoint.
QuoteThe incident occurred near MBK Centre, where the traffic police allegedly did not establish a formal checkpoint. Instead, they acted upon spotting the passenger without a helmet, leading to a chase and subsequent fall.

They were being chased for their failure to stop at a police check - not for their failure to wear a helmet.
Failure to stop when instructed to may have many reasons (carrying drugs, outstanding warrants etc.). It is considered a far more serious crime in law than failure to wear a helmet and warrants more than a ticket.
But allegedly, it was not a real checkpoint (as per the article).. just the usual bandits being bandits.

No helmets, tough - they got what they deserved
It's an interesting logic: wear a helmet to protect your head in case it gets smashed to the ground. Solution: the police will try and crush your head to the ground if no helmet??

I would keep it, but not spend it for a while. For the next few months, I'd keep an eye out for any news of someone losing their cash. If I saw a story of an person losing their cash and I'd be sure it's a match, I would be honest and return the money to the rightful owner. This way, I'd be sure that if the real owner is never found, the money is not kept by someone else.

Why not do the same with drugs, instead of the pointless war on them, trying to punish drug users. Focus on harm reduction and help instead, and see the results. Some countries in Europe now have mobile drug labs to test substances and advice their users on their effects and dangers.

Revoking visas is clearly inappropriate but a suitable financial penalty and a yellow card should perhaps be the minimum.
Well, somchais driving through red lights daily don't get a similar reaction (or any reaction at all).

Isn't this exactly what the government wanted with their crackdown against e-cigarettes? Now kids can smoke the healthy organic tobacco instead and keep bringing tax revenue for the goverment and profits for the tobacco monopoly.

The Chonburi province will be so much safer now. Well done BiB for ruining someone's birthday party.

I once saw a female motorbike taxi drop a stack of 100 baht bills from her pocket onto the road while riding in Bangkok. I stopped, picked them up and chased her down, which wasn't too hard on a big bike. When reaching her, I honked a bit to get her attention. She got very annoyed and pointed at the plentiful space next to her for passing. The confusion on her face was great when in response, I handed her a stack of money.

True.. but those countries might be more effective at teaching them some manners.

Roads are not the problem.
Look at driving skills.
Rest/work hours.
Last but most important, vehicle maintenance.
I would also look at the size and shape of these massive monster buses. There is probably a reason why they are banned in Europe.

Makes no difference, as an Aussie we have a recognised successful multicultural country...so I guess, according to you, France, and Brussels, have their own issues to deal with... But I stand by my comment re racist.
I strongly recommend visiting to get first-hand experience of the severity of the multicultural failure in these countries. There are several areas in these cities where, if you walk there as a white person, you will get rocks thrown at you. During moments like these, one wonders who are the actual racists here.

Oh... this thread is like cat-nip for the usual idiots, who won't be able to help themselves while peeing their panties a little bit before questioning his nationality - "Ali is not a French name"...
Well, names aside, let's be realistic: he is most likely a descendant of North-African immigrants. These people have French citizenship, but if you ask them, they usually hate France and the French with all their heart. They are wreaking havoc in the cities they've settled in and making them unlivable places that are filled with gangs and crime. So you can imagine how French people feel when they see these lovely "Frenchmen" in the news.

These "Frenchmen" should be deported back to the countries of their grandparents. The French (and other surrounding EU countries) have had enough of them too.

Yeah let's see the full video and what happened before the attack. I'd be surprised if the van driver is totally innocent.

This is the scrary part.. naturally for anyone seeing this you would immediately jump to help. I would too. But as a farang, you have a great risk of surrounding Thai males misinterpreting the situation and attacking you instead. If you saw the German guy who was beaten in Pattaya, some of the attackers confessed they had nothing to do with any party but just saw it and joined the beating.

Life is going to be extremely difficult for this poor lass from now on all because people think that vaping is safe.
(and please do not bother telling me that you have been vaping for 150 years and your lungs are fine 'cough! cough!')
This is a good example why it should be LEGALIZED. Control it with relevant FDA approval for devices and e-liquids and this wouldn't happen. It's not a suprise you get cases like these when the market is flooded with uncontrolled poor quality Chinese stuff.

No, if you get health issues, the community has to pay. And if you commit crimes under the influence of drugs you will cause troubles for the community. So the state has to protect their citizens and ban drugs as it is described in the thread.
With this logic alcohol should be banned by now?
