If a truck was doing a U-turn it would have been at a snail's pace, yet the pickup speedster didn't notice or was going too fast to react. Might have been talking with his friends and wasn't concentrating. There - that theory hasn't been used on this thread yet. I'm going with that one.
Quite often the trucks stay on the left and then suddenly just go for it, and cut across the lanes. It's not always obvious that they're intending to do an u-turn. And it's the truck drivers' responsibility to check the road is clear before doing such move. My guess is that the pickup driver didn't expect the truck to make the turn, and once realised it it was too late to slow down on time.
But of course, it could be that he wasn't paying attention - often many accidents like these can be avoided with being alert. -

Wasn't it pretty obvious from the post that the truck cut them off? If you follow some local FB pages you see this is a common occurrence: trucks just aggressively pulling an u-turn accross 3 lanes without looking. I lost also one colleague to one of these idiot truck drivers.

I thought the answer would have been: only 1 in 14 CCTV cameras work on average in Thailand, so by placing 14 they ensure at least one is working.

The lockdowns cause more harm than good and don't even seem to be effective. The virus is not going to disappear anywhere, but the longer they keep restricting business openings (etc.) the more people will suffer. It's total madness for a virus with a less than 1% death rate - which is mostly among the risk groups (who of course, should be offered the best help possible to allow isolation and medical care). I would estimate most socially active people will eventually get some variant of the virus - hopefully after being vaccinated.

I'm no fan of the little general and his cohorts and maybe some protesting is justified - - but deliberately going out to injure police who are just doing their job is over the top, and necessary force should be brought to bear on these few idiots causing the problem.
Any difference than storming the white house?
My suggestion is to get someone who reads and follows the recent protests and have them translate the reports etc. into English for you to really understand what many of these protesters are really doing in the name of protest against the government and he who can't be named.
You might be very surprised.
Let's not forget Thailand doesn't have a "police force" in the Western meaning of the term. There is actually quite a big difference.

The vaccine rollout obviously was bad and still is insufficient. But I wonder why some people think the wanted criminal would have done things any better. Because he claims he would have done that? 555
IMHO a situation where the economy and peoples' livelihoods of a country get destroyed doesn't really demonstrate a good handling of the pandemic, even if they managed to get to zero infections per day. Reducing transmissions is one thing, but at what cost? It would be interesting to compare the number of destroyed lives from the lockdowns vs. the number (and the possible number) of deaths from the virus itself.

Good to see that there are still locations where laws are enforced. I am tired of empty words in the news...
Yes great - hope they're jailed. How dare they have dinner. The music after 9pm might wake up the sleeping coronavirus..

So the limit is actually 4 people then, not 5?
Yeah it's very confusing. I've seen so many news with arrests e.g. in Chiang Mai 7 people drinking in a rented villa. But the limit is no gatherings of more than 20? We cancelled our company party because of this random enforcement, even though we're under 20 people and not in a dark red province.

Very sad to see this idiotic trend continuing in Asia. It must be goverment-owned tobacco businesses behind these bans?

Sorry for the non-medical comment you specifically didn't ask for, but just wanted to share that with the side effects I got from the Astra Zeneca vaccine, alcohol would have been the last thing to top it off. I felt like I had been poisoned, like a hangover x 20. But it only lasted 24h and now feeling better again.

This illustrates well the stupidity of the current Covid restrictions. Instead of enforcing social distancing, they ban activities deemed "risky" that are pretty much drawn out of a hat. Hundreds of people in a pile is OK when it's for queuing for vaccinations or fighting for toilet paper in a supermarket, but people sitting 10 meters away from each other at a beach is illegal.

Utter nonsense.....
Can you share some studies to show that Covid is most active in the night time after 9pm? Or that it speads easily outdoors in places like parks, beaches or swimming pools compared to indoor shopping malls.

So, yes, I cheer when such people are arrested. They are contributing to the continuation of the pandemic. These people are selfish and irresponsible. They should be heavily fined and quarantined at their own expenses (after being tested of course). What do civil rights mean when you need to be tied to a ventilator: should the patients be asked first if they want it?
Don't you think we're a little past the point of blaming individuals for the virus who are just trying to get on with their lives, after over a year of this madness? Yes, Covid is a serious disease, but it's not going to magically disappear anywhere.
Some thoughts to refresh the memory:
- When the outbreak started, the greedy goverment let infected people fly in straight from China into the country
- When the outbreak was almost contained, the corrupt goverment failed to stop the import of illegal labour that brought in a new wave
- Vaccines have been available for over 6 months, yet the government has failed to vaccinate its people
- It's been over a year and we're still reading about the lack of hospital beds. They can build a new 7-Eleven in a week, but they can't build more hospitals in a year?

Theres a maximum 5 kilometers for some supermarket's.
We're in the boonies.
Sure, I can imagine in some cases delivery is not an option.
But overall it's just completely ridiculous. For example my local Makro on a Friday evening is completely full of people with a total lack of social distancing and people fighting for pieces of meat on the counter all touching each other. This has got even worse as since the curfew, they close at 7pm so everyone goes at once.
The rules are drawn out of a hat with no scientific backing. Entire activities are banned because people "tend" to do something in certain circumstances.
100 people cramped into a supermarket for their essential food shopping is OK. 10 people actually practicing social distancing drinking beer at the beach is illegal.

Civil rights also incur civil obligations. An individual should behave in such a manner that they do not endanger other people's civil rights of a healthy life.
There are several fundamental differences between people in a bar and people in a supermarket -
- Trips to a supermarket are essential to purchase food to sustain life.
- People in a supermarket do not need to remove a mask to engage in their shopping activities, people drinking in a bar do!
- People in a supermarket are unlikely to be drunk and forget the need to wash their hands after physical contact with a bunch of strangers.
- Groups of people in a bar tend to socialise in close proximity with no mask and increase the chances of infection.
It's quite hard to call trips to the supermarket essential, when every supermarket out there offers delivery as well.

I'm more ashamed of seeing foreigners support these silly rules set by the goverment baboons. Oh wait, forgot that Covid mostly attacks after 9pm and is attracted to the smell of alcohol. Put them to jail, those dirty foreigners.

The invoice from workshop should be good enough as the block is a part from an engine that was already in Thailand I would say because it came from a Toyota.
I bet the only thing DLT will want is to inspect and check the vehicles numbers and change the engine number in the book.
The worse scenario would be the engine registered as stolen but I doubt that very much the workshop would that stupid.
The workshop being Thai would be thinking why don't you just go to DLT and get new engine number in book.
Sounds good. The only potential issue I see here is that all of the 2JZ-GTE engines have been imported from Japan. There are both legal and illegal imports of these engines in Thailand and when doing the engine swap, having the correct import papers is very important. It's only the block, but I wonder if they'd be interested to find the import origin of the block itself..
However, perhaps I can get the mrs. to call the DLT and verify.

Get the Car workshop to give you an invoice for the work carried out stating the engine block part was replaced which has a different engine number.
Take that and the car to DLT for inspection and they will change the details in the blue book.
Thanks - this sounds like the most sensible thing to do. I just wonder if they actually require an import invoice for the engine block to confirm taxes were paid on import, or just a receipt to confirm that the work was done?

It's a sinn to put Toyota engine in BMW.
While I would certainly prefer a real M-car (if I could afford one in Thailand), it's kind of funny to pass them on the motorway in a 20 year old clapper with 500hp/600nm on the wheels that whistles and shoots flames.

Hi,
I have a BMW with a Toyota 2jz-gte engine swap, which had been registered in the bluebook.
The engine blew earlier this year and a shop replaced the engine block only. The engine number is located on the block and is now different to the one in the bluebook. Since it was only the block and a whole engine, the shop didn't provide an invoice for it (what you normally use to register a whole engine swap).
Will this cause trouble later if transferring ownership?- 1

Yes, it is clear now. But from the initial communications it was not evident if there were going to be punishments for breaking the curfew, or what counts as a "necessary reason" for being out at night. But seems it's been clarified now:

It's not very clear if the 9pm-4am curfew is a strict rule or recommendation.

Not to far and affordable flights ??? Do you have any idea what this whole process will cost with ASQ and the whole shebang . This is impossible to do the charlie way . As jackdd said , get an agent and see what your options(or your employee's options) are . Might be cheaper then leaving returning quarantine etc etc .
We are aware of the whole process, we have relocated dozens of new employees from Europe. Unfortunately for this person, there seems to be no viable alternative than applying for the visa abroad. It seems that Immigration has put a hold on the special visa type changes.

I don't see why the conversion should not be possible, but an alternative without leaving the country would be to just pay an agent to get a non-o for volunteering. With this visa he can then get a one year extension for working at your company.
As far as I'm aware, you can only get a BOI visa extension and work permit if you hold an existing business visa, or a Non-O visa based on marriage with a Thai. A Non-O volounteering is not compatible for extending with the BOI.

Iglu is still taking on new employees, but they have distanced themselves from being an employer of 'freelancers' in Thailand. They have changed their business model slightly after rules got tighter and now focus on long term roles/projects with clients mainly in the area of software consulting.
