Paedos need to be exterminated like cockroaches. Surprised there aren't more vigilantes about, especially in Thailand.

there are plenty of vigilantes in Pattaya and in Thailand. they don't go after Paedos because they cannot find enough of them to justify their expenses so they go after just anybody even you and me.

The fee for the car sounds quite reasonable. Going back via Poipet I think you did well not incurring any 'out of province' charges.

Your eating experiences are exactly the opposite to mine - but then again, I mainly avoid Cambodian food and opt for good quality western food at a fraction of the price in Thailand.

I would never use a car to visit Angkor Wat, a far better ambiance is achieved when traveling by tuk tuk - especially later in the day.

I traveled from Siem Reap to Angkor Wat and other places last year when the temps were around 40c! Hired air conditioned car with driver - only way to go IMHO. Was not going to sweat it our all day in those temps and to hell with the "ambience". wai.gif.pagespeed.ce.ptXUXgG4cA.gif alt=wai.gif width=20 height=20>

when angkor wat was operational they did not have air con.

now with all that hot stone the place becomes unbearable.

it cannot have always been like that.

it must have been a cool place with lots of water.

the theory is that angkor wat was abandoned

    when the water ran out.

you can see high water marks on some of the temple walls

caused by flooding about 15 meters above ground level.

cutting so many trees cannot have helped either.

  3. when i went there 10 years ago tuktuks were $6 for the day.

the entry price for one week was $60 so that is similar.

but they had security checks at the entrance to each temple

which made it very difficult not to pay.

a group of 3 khmers, 2 in blue and one in brown police uniform.

some were relaxed about it and some were very aggressive about it

so much so that i declined to enter one temple after the pass check.

  4. I have lived here 4 years now and I am starting to look for another place. I am simply feed up with the trouble of doing business here, visa, work-permit etc. and of course also now having to report to the police, when we go and visit friends and family here. It is just too much and I have become really sick of it.

Our company here could e.g. grow and easily hire 2-3 skilled foreigners, but since we need hire 4 Thai-employees to get one work-permit, then it is simply not worth staying here. And we can not find the skilled local staff, so it is impossible to grow the business here. It is simply stupid and frustrating as well. Can not find local staff, but need them to be able to hire skilled foreign staff.

Will visit both Cambodia and Philippines during the next couple of weeks and then decide where to move. One thing is for sure... I am out of here. I was hoping for better conditions for foreigners here, but have seen nothing else that more and more restrictions. It seems as Thailand is only a place for older people with their pensions to spend.

    A shame really...

Very big pensions in some cases

Get yourself a Cambodian passport, only 500,000 us dollars, peanuts realy

    no.

a cambodia passport costs us$270 and is available to everybody

even to those with white skin and a big nose.

the catch is that you must pass the interview by speaking fluent Khmer

which is much more difficult than Thai.

a cambodia passport is valid for only 3 years after which it can be renewed twice for 2 years each time.

  5. take her to a wat like the one above Pattaya,

which has donation boxes one for each day of the week -

the day on which you were born.

observe which one she puts your money in.

    say monday.

ask her what day is her birthday like say October 8th.

she is unlikely to lie about that.

look back thru old calendars on your camputer

to determine the day of the week for a particular date.

    in this example 2012, 2007, 2001, 1990, 1984, 1979, 1973, 1962 etc.

    voila.

  6. of course you were disturbed by the incident. i would be too. so would we all. this is the area that the many so called child protection ngo,s are supposed to be working in. but thai on thai - there is no money in that. now if you had been doing like that the ngo's would be very interested. i would just let it go. you might well be accused yourself.

  7. There was a first floor bar with a staircase from the pavement in Pattaya at the seaward end of Pattaya Kang called "Stairway to Heaven". The staircase is still there but it is now an Indian restaurant.

  8. it's a bit of a grey area and hence your question.

you might be able to sneak through.

i would just play it by ear.

good luck and may you prosper.

some years ago i stayed in Poipet Cambodia and took a motodop to the casino area

to eat some Thai food since Cambodia food in Poipet was not very good.

then when i took another motodop back to my hotel in Poipet Cambodia i was stopped by the Cambodian immigration and had to show my Cambodia visa.

i don't think Thai immigration will stop you.

you cannot go to the roundabout which is definitely in Cambodia.

i know that i was going the other way but i hope that this helps.
