  1. I had ORIF surgery done outside of Thailand three months ago after I was hit from behind on a motorcycle by a minivan. I then needed to have some follow up, cleaning etc and the hardware removed and went in circles here with five doctors and three hospitals until I finally found a good one. His name is Chanakarn and he is at Rajavej. At Ram I was told to see an older fellow, after I initially saw some younger fellow ( I dont want to write their names ) there who barely had time to do anything excpet ring the bell for the next patient. While there with the first fellow, I was suppsed to have had the dressings on my skin graft cleaned and replaced. Instead, the nurse simply poured red liquid over the exisitng bandages and said "Mi Pen Rai". Then, later to the senior doctor, and I spent the first consultation, a whole hour with him and although he is quite an older fellow I found him very knowledgable and thorough and I could see his genius, although maybe time to retire?. He then scheduled another appointment through his younger wife ( yes, she works in the office with him ) two weeks later. When I returned for the next appointment he had no recollection of who I was or what we had taked about, zilch! Keep in mind I am throughout this seeking out someone to cut me open and remove hardware from my body. So I then went to Lanna and saw a fellow about mid 50's and he seemed OK, although there was nothing really caring or in depth about the meetings. I had staples and sticthes removed there. But when I got home I saw that they forgot to remove one of the staples so I had to remove it with a pair of needle nose. Those suckers are strong, stainless steel. They also left part of some stitch in there which got infected. The doctor never set foot in the room while his staff were doing this. Both times I went there, I was prescribed the most expensive medcation they had for sale including vitamin B tablets for 800 baht and antibiotics for 1000baht. That also happened at Ram. Over this period of three months these have been some of my experiences. As far as cost, Ram is by far the most expenisve. Chanakarn was born in the USA, spent four years at University of Michigan Ann Arbor, one of the top schools in the world and speaks flawless English, ( American, sorry Brittunculi ). There is more to this if anyone wants to PM me.

  2. If you look on Wikipedia, Thailand is not that bad for Fatalties per 100,000km, at 118 (countries with nutty drivers mind you) with UAE about the same, most African countries way higher, and even Indonesia is much higher. But I suppose these are difficlut figures to believe. My favorite is Liberia and Ethipia with 11,000per 100,000km. And I have driven Ehtiopia before, but actually it didnt seem as dangerous as here, maybe getting old.

  3. Did you ever get your aircon serviced? We got ours serviced yesterday and they did a great job cleaning and recharging one of the units that they said needed it. The lady in our condo office arranged it. She said to call Yotim at 081 992 0996 but that must be the guy at the company she contacts to arrange appointments.

When the three-man crew showed up, they were wearing shirts that said "Air Sale & Service" in English with the phone number 053 804 673 Nobody on the crew spoke English, but I don't know about the office.

  4. NO, the AEON bank which I had never used before but read on this forum that I could pull 40k from in one shot, is where I went first. I am talking specifically about per transaction, not daily limits. As each time i use any machine I get charged 150baht. Online I can increse or decrease my limit or shut it off completely. On the Debit Card thing the lady at BKK Bank said people get large amounts of cash with that card all the time, but does she understand me clearly when she says that? Or maybe it is a Singapore Bank restriction applied on my card = no cash withdrawal in a bank only though ATM, but pretty dumb as I can buy something for 5000sgd, whats the difference.

  5. Auttaya Bank at Tesco wanted 180 baht for fee and AEON 150 Baht. All others seem to be 150 baht plus what ever fee your bank charges and the huge rip off on the currecny margin (exchange rate) making BKK Bank for instance aboutt 4% loss on an ATM charge and they will not allow you to use your Visa Debit Card inside the bank to get cash, even if it has the Visa logo. Only a credit card can get a cash advance and with all the crazy fees, even though I can purchase soemthing up to 5000usd with my Visa Debit Card. I just did all this stuff last week. Banks have big conferences and make sure they are screwing us all to the max and little outsiders like AEON are pressed into service, like they have been lately. You can exchange cash at an exchange for a much better rate than you get from an ATM machine so all the good times are over at ATM's I believe.

  6. I was working in Beijing last year, this is much less. But what to do with all the humans and all the waste. How do you tell a guy that was raised as a little emperor that he cannot pollute with all his machines and toys whenever he wants? The Humans will get what is coming to them. Like Darwin said "Any species that thrives destroys it self" or some to that effect.

  7. It took me 3 weeks to get mine, then I took it to the motorcycle registration place and they wanted to keep it. I said "<deleted>" You mean I have to go through this again to buy something else? So they gave a copy with with some stamp on it and said it was good for a month. Does it mean they only believe I am a resident for one month?

  8. Also just had to replace my Capacitor for 330 baht which I did my self, and that started the unit running quickly and properly as it is suppsed to. The Capicator is like a battery and stores electric and when the fan and compressor need to start it is there for it. If the Capicitaor is bad the regular elec lines wont supply the "surge" necessary to kick on all that stuff. So the AC goes cold for a while then hot for a while.
