I am at Friendship2 bridge in Mukdahan now, cleared Thai immigration after a quick medical check. Waiting for the bus to Laos.
Will update.

I was granted an evisa for Laos on Tuesday 17th March, the article mentions that if you already have a visa you also need to obtain a health certificate, surely no doctors in rural Isaan are testing for COVID 19!
Plan B, go to immigration and apply for 60 day extension to visit my wife.

From TTR-weekly:

So, some borders and Savannakhet airport have closed but people can fly in to Vientiane or Luang Prabang, if flights are allowed I would guess that entry via the bridge at Mukdahan is possible.

Any members currently in the Mukdahan area with any updates on the border being open or closed? I understand the situation changes very quickly but any info. would be appreciated.

Thanks for the heads up JoeW.
Could you please tell me what is required to register at the office? I live in my wife's house for which I have the yellow book so I guess that along with my passport and completed TM30 form is all I need.
-
Thanks Lamkyong, I hope it's a one-off fine as I will have made 4 entries this year without doing a TM30! Anyway I will go to register and see what happens.
Cheers

Hi,
Has anyone made a TM30 report at Kalasin immigration? I have lived in Kalasin for about 8 years on a marriage based non o or extensions, over the last 2 years I have been outside of Thailand a lot of the time and been visiting using visa exempts. I have recently obtained a new marriage based non o and would appreciate any info. on the TM30 specific to Kalasin immigration.
Cheers

I guess the guy who received the electric shock got too close when pointing at the dangling wire!

I guess it's pot luck, I have made the trip in and out of Thailand to activate my next 90 day stay at Mukdahan many times (most recently in May this year) with a marriage based M/E Non O visa and never been asked any questions or shown any cash. Every time I have cleared passport control into Laos I have immediately turned around to come back to Thailand! To be on the safe side I will carry the cash next time.

Hi, have a look at this website; http://udon-news.com/en/main/fishing-in-thailand
It has details of many lakes, each lake has its own page with details of fish species, facilities, prices, contact details and location. It also has a section on various methods and baits to use. The best lake I know in Khon Kaen is listed below;
Sri Nuan is a popular fishing lake, located a few kilometers outside the Khon Kaen ring-road. The target for the serious will be either one of the huge Giant Siamese Carp or the giant Mekong catfish.
Price per rod: 200 Baht
Coordinates for your navigation device
Latitude: 16.363370 Longitude: 102.797110 At Sri Nuan there is normally a young lad around who will show you the best set up to use.
Good luck and enjoy your new hobby!

Considering the number of real tourists entering Thailand on a daily basis without any hassles, I don't think your summary is correct.
Good point, I guess the reports on here of people having problems represent only a tiny percentage of the total number of visitors. I am following this topic because I am about to fly out of Thailand ( for the first time in about 5 years) for a short trip to the UK and will return 1 week later ( I have a Non o based on marriage) and want to be as prepared as possible. Having said that, in 15 years of visiting and living in Thailand I have never had a problem entering the country.
-
So in summary, it seems that whenever you enter or re-enter Thailand by air with any kind of visa, extension of stay or visa exempt you may be asked to show 20,000 Baht in cash. Is that correct?
Does the same apply to land entries?

So the original Bungsamran has closed, does anybody know what happened to the huge Siamese Carp and Arapaima that were resident there? I guess they may have been moved to the new site but how do you safely remove, transport and release fish weighing 100 kg or more? Just curious.

Hi all, I am a British citizen living in Thailand and I want to apply for a tourist visa for China, as I am not applying in my own country I need to submit proof of my residence status in Thailand ( I have the yellow house book) for which I will obtain a residence certificate from my immigration office.Does this certificate have to be translated in to English and/or Chinese?
Thanks

Thanks to everyone for the information.
Videomster, thanks for the pics and video. I have fished Sri Nuan in Khon Kaen many times, just looking for somewhere else to go for a change.
Siamesecarper, thanks for the heads up on Ping Pong, doesn't sound like a relaxing place to fish! It's always good to get some local knowledge so will PM in due course.
Cheers.

Thanks for your replies everyone, especially videomaster for the GPS co-ords and Roodujardin for the directions. Do you have any info. about the fish; species, size etc.

Hi,
Does anybody know of any fishing parks in Chum Phae?

It seems that you have a multi entry marriage based Non Immigrant O visa. You entered Thailand on 3rd Dec.2015 and received your first 90 day entry until 1st Mar.2016. All you need to do is a visa run out of Thailand and back in again to get your next 90 day entry, only your passport is required for this but you will need a visa for whichever country you go to.
Just nitpicking:
there are fairly cheap flights to Malaysia where a US citizen does not require (to pay for) a visa.
Can be done in a one day turnaround from Bangkok.
And of course the OP could even do a "home visit" to the US in summer or the like or any tourist excursion.
You are right of course, completely forgot about Malaysia! should know better as a UK citizen that does not require a visa either.

Not sure what your friend means by" visa will burn" when you leave Thailand. Does your visa look something like the picture posted by KhunBENQ? if it does then you can use it as he described.

I have not fished for predators but I believe the owner uses small deadbaits for the Redtail and Chao Phraya Catfish, don't think a wire trace is needed ( or allowed) for these fish. The Pacu take bread baits but they do have a habit of biting off the hooklink so maybe you could use a strong braided line but again check with the owner first. I think you are allowed to use lures for the Giant Snakehead.

There are quite a lot of fishing parks listed in and around Udon but a few seem to have closed recently, so i would recommend Luckana as I have fished there a few times and I know that there is a good mix of species to catch.
If you want to fish for predators the owner will advise on rigs/ bait.
-
Hi, I didn't reply sooner because I haven't been there for about a year, there is a good stock of fish in the lake but you need to take everything with ( tackle, bait food and drink) although I think the owner has some tackle for rent.
As with most (all!) fishing parks bread seems to be the best hook bait with some ground bait ( normally a bread-based pre mix and a little water) on a cage feeder fished on the bottom.
Line with a breaking strain of around 15 kg is recommended. Check out the link below for a map, GPS co-ords and the owners phone number( his name is John and he's English) The same website also has some more details of the rigs to use if you are not familiar with them.
I am hoping to visit again soon so please let me know how your trip goes, good luck.

I was doing a border run via the Friendship Bridge at Mukdahan on March 19th and there were several reports on that day that the Thai Consulate in Savannakhet were not issuing any visas without a "health certificate" although no such certificate was required to leave Thailand or re-enter on the same day. I did have to see a "doctor" in a tiny office who asked me where I had been recently, took my temp. filled in a form with my name and passport number and only then was I allowed to pass through immigration to be stamped out of Thailand to do my border run.
