The agreement only covers import duties.

Once inside the country it is the same excise taxes and VAT that is added it onto domestic beers.

Yes understood but would that not then mean that a case of beer Lao minus the import duties but having the same taxes as other locally produced beers, should not cost anymore to purchase wholesale than Leo, Singha or Chang.

It's not Beer Lao that is out pricing it's self it is the Thai taxes. (Beer Monopolies)

Begs the question what happened to all the ASEAN free trade agreements

  3. Hi guys, so I am bit of noob when it comes to crypto but reading through other friends I have signed up with bx (as I want all my crypto trading done here as opposed to my home country). Problem is this the website seems really clunky the deposits seems set up for withdrawals and vice versa. I looked to trade in the smaller currencies but the main page seems fully devoted to bitcoin. The only other trading page I could find was linked to a Vietnamese website. So what is going on and how do you actually buy any of the 20 or so smaller coins bx seems to have? Thanks.

Don't you pay postage on every separate package?

Yes but iherb by regular post up to the limit the costs are negligible...like 80-100 baht and it all still seems to arrive pretty promptly. Works for me. Went to buy something small from eBay from the US the other day the item was 48 the postage was 69 and the eBay pre paid price to avoid tax was over 50 dollars.. It's ridiculous the import duty here as you well know so why take the punt?

  5. Mate when you came here 6 years ago Australia was in the midst of its biggest resources booms ever and we were at parity, and better with the US dollar hitting 1.06 at one stage if memory serves. So if we were getting only  33 baht at parity what would you expect to get at 79¢ US? When I arrived in the 90s, 18-19 baht was the norm and when we finally hit mid 20's baht wise I was over the moon. So basically it's all relative. Personally I think 25 is about right for the Aus dollar and probably lucky to be getting that. It will be a long time, if ever, if you see 30's again and again personally I don't think that is sustainable long term. Though I am no economist nor forex expert. It is what it is.

NOT 20/1 more like 5/1 and the victim started the fight.

100% and it's not just a Thai thing the days of "taking it outside" and having a fair fight are all over. Try starting a fight in Sydney and see if the blokes mates don't all jump in, that's if you don't get king hit or glassed first. Boys will boys it's just that everyone has a phone camera to capture the antics these days

300 baht to 315 baht is a 5% increase, the consumer price Index was just about 100 in 2014, raising to 101.5, the falling back again, and end of 2017, December, 101.37; core consumer price Index is 102 i.e. about 2% increase.

So a 15 baht minimum wage increase seem fair enough compared with overall figure. Those who think 15 baht is too little, are they the same that are complaining, when prices are going up due to increase of salaries..?

I.e. if we Westerners wish to see minimum wages rocking "sky high" in Third World countries, where our cheap stuff comes from, we shall be prepared to pay (a lot) more, for the products we buy; and of course without complaining about rising prices...

No if there was parity in wages In developing nations then multinationals may have to rethink there abusive strategies and start going back to manufacturing and producing in their home countries, also a fairer distribution of wealth especially in Thailand is also on my utopian agenda.

  8. 2 problems here. One, pointing out Australians seems ridiculous and inflammatory in light of the rest of the article. I'm  against all pedos as we all should and believe they should be castrated or shot which ever they prefer. 2 what has Pattaya got to do with pedos?  Seedy night-life does not indicate paedophilia and though there may be some pretty seedy Dudes who choose to search out the younger ladies in Pattaya. They would be late teens at worst. Unsavoury certainly. Paedophilia? Not even <deleted> close. This also seems to come up in other threads as well some people need to check their definition of paedophile. An old man having sex with a 16, 17 or 18 year old girl maybe disgusting and possibly be stuatory rape but it ain't paedophilia

Looks interesting, but they want 3900 THB in initiation fees in addition to 300 THB/hour.  3900 THB isn't a huge amount if you know you're going to take classes for a while, but I tend to move around from place to place, so I'm not sure it would be worth it.

This looks great.  I plan on traveling down to Ubon this month.  I'll check it out.

No wonder they call you kiiniaw. The 3900 is for registration and all your course material and you could change teacher to any one you prefer anywhere all over Thailand.. But good luck. 150 bucks, not worth it? Wow.

Retail for the Sigsauer P320SP is $879 USD if you buy just one (Google it).

I'll go out on a limb & say a volume discount for buying 150,000 of them might/should apply.

Bt23,890 is $728 USD. so it's 4,936 baht cheaper than retail.

That's not much of a heavy subsidy.

"for Thailand at least,"  is what I said and if you have been to a gun shop or bought a gun in Thailand you would possibly have better understood my reference. This ain't the US mate. It's apples and oranges...Google it. A glock 19 will run you @500 in the US seen the same model here up to @75000 baht what's that? @2200? Big difference

So where will the police sell off all their old S&W model 19's, colt .45's and other assorted relics? To anyone that has the cash, naturally.

Exactly the gangsters won't be buying the sigs, the rtp would be too excited about getting there new heavily subsidised, for Thailand at least, toys. As for all the weapons these sigs are replacing though weeeeell let's just say I'm sure a few may fall into the wrong hands.

"No money, no passport". That says a lot. Only thing left after a lenghty stay in Thailand is a bad temper and a non-functioning brain.
There are times, when I can understand the TAT = Quality tourists in, basket cases out!

I insist, there are sighns that indicate when a person is on the verge of "cracking-up". I could make a list of symptoms, but to keep it short: Irregular, agressive behaviour, incoherent talk, lack of personal hygene and disregarding the simlplest forms of "dress-code" are very basic indicators.
    - There is no way, that the Dutchman "cracked-up" overnight in such a way. Warning sighns were ignored by his "surroundings".
An idea: Instead of checking Farangs wearing no helmets while driving their Motorbikes, why the Police not follow up on "hints from within the populace", signaling those "walking time bombs" in time. Most will be on "overstay" anyway. Better they "crack-up" in their home-country, instead of Thailand.
    Cheers.
PS: Would not recomment for any Farangs to aquire property near "Ban Khok Muang" for the next 25 years. The locals are equipped with some sort of "Elephant-Memory".

"why" do you "feel the need" to put "everything" in "quotation marks" you don't "seem" to be quoting anyone or many "colloquial" expressions are you "taking the piss?"

100% realistically we are at the upper limit of human ability most events are decided by hundredths if not thousandths of seconds I am all for a free for all games. Only problem is people couldn't stop cheating in a "clean" games.
