That and a widespread civil war.
I do agree. For me personally I'm going to leave Thailand after more than 7 years here. I do feel I had a good income to live here in a 3 world country , but with the month income reduced from more than 120000 baht every month to only 96000 over the last years, its not worth it anymore.

Thai Riot Police Put on Alert as Coup Rumors Spread
By Todd Ruiz and Pravit Rojanaphruk
PHICHIT — Riot police were ordered to mobilize and prepare to defend important facilities Saturday in the central province of Phichit, according to a leaked order from the provincial governor marked urgent.
There was no further information on why the order was issued or whether it went out in other provinces. It gave no further details other than to say it was “due to urgent government matters.”
Provincial police chief Maj. Gen. Thawatchai Muannara confirmed the order was genuine Sunday, but said it was just a normal peacekeeping order, particularly in the period leading up to elections slated for March 24.
Earlier Sunday, a column of armored personnel carriers was spotted heading north of Bangkok toward Lopburi province, which the army said was in preparation of the annual Cobra Gold joint military exercises with the United States and other military allies.
As it prepares for its first election after five years of military rule, Thailand entered a new phase of political uncertainty Friday following the surprise entry of a former princess into politics.
The unprecedented candidacy of Ubolratana Mahidol for the job of prime minister proved short-lived; His Majesty the King effectively ended it hours later with a royal command asserting it was unconstitutional and inappropriate.
By Sunday night, rumors were spreading on social media of a possible military coup. The last coup in May 2014 was led by current junta leader Gen. Prayuth Chan-ocha, who is also prime minister.
“Strange,” wrote Thammasat academic Virot Ali, referencing the current mood of anxiety.
#Coup was a top trending hashtag late Sunday night.
The timing of any such action would be awkward, with the military set to begin joint exercises with the US armed forces and partner nations this week as part of an annual event known as Cobra Gold.
“Stop the vicious cycle! Stop coups! Enough! We want elections!” wrote Facebook user Waaddao Chumaporn shortly before 10pm Sunday.
“I hope the rumor about a coup isn’t true. I believe the electoral process can solve all problems. Only if we believe in the people,” Future Forward Party candidate Rangsiman Rome wrote on Facebook at 10:20pm on Sunday night.

Now I get 200,000. I am much more careful & don't splash the cash anywhere near as much as I did.
I do have the same problem. I dont use any big amount of money here anymore. Theres no value for money anymore ???? Used to get 116000 every month from my pension, but now I only gets 96000.

What is their contribution to GDP? 100 or 20?
Thailand welcomed some 35 million foreign tourists in 2017, bringing in 1.8 trillion baht in revenue. The tourism industry has played a significant role over the past several years in driving the economy economy, creating jobs and distributing income to locals. Including domestic tourism, the sector generated as much as 2.76 trillion baht, representing about 20% of GDP in 2017.
Source: Tourism and Sports Minister Weerasak KowsuratTourism will continue to be a powerful driver for economic growth this year, expected to generate 2.21 trillion baht in income from 41.1 million international arrivals.

I have followed the economy in Thailand for years now and I still wonder how is this possibly.
When the dollar was raising to almost every currency in the world more than 10%, the bath just gets 8-9% stronger against the dollar. ????
The problem they dont tell about, is the value of the export is dropping very fast. They always say the export Is growing ( The Volume), just this year about 7-8%, but the value is falling like a stone.
A currency trader and analyst on another forum says that the Thai baht is at least 25% overvalued, but the US still says its
undervalued. Who to believe I dont know. But amazing it is ????

Things move in cycles and that's how people make money. Is Soros still alive? He could destroy thai currency without lifting a finger.
Btw, I'm going to say this and I just know I'm going to sound like a moron. Bangkok to me is one of the most romantic, mysterious cities in the world. I love it and hate it at the same time. I'd come here for visits even if baht was 5 to 1 Canadian dollar.
I do understand you about the visits. It was the same for me years ago. romantic, mysterious, but when you live here full time, you will properly change you view. Then the price of items, schools, hospitals, dentist, power bills, water bills. Insurance, car petrol and so on, will hurt you income, and speciel with a baht there only was 5 to 1 Canadian dollar.
There is a big difference between living her long time and holidays ????

I do. But everything is on hold here in Thailand. I dont invest in anything. No new motorbike, house building only few holidays with the family. I will not bring more money to Thailand right now. Like many, I do believe Thailand has become very expensive, even with my income. I feel I dont get value for my money anymore. Before I could accept to live in a 3 world country and the quality there is here, but right now, I feel like, I pay to much for a lower quality of life here. Many things are even more expensive here, than my home country

I do agree on the tourist numbers, but the economy in Thailand is not so bad as you want to state. ????

I do feel the same on the Danish Krone. DKK. The last 5 years we has lost form 5.9 to 4.88 to the baht.????
Maybe it dont look at much, but with a big pension we get in Denmark is this about 20000Baht less in the bank every month
