  1. There are a couple at the end of Rattana Kosin Road near the football ground (not CM United the small one right at the end near the temple). There is also a market stall that sells cycling gear at very reasonable prices on Saturdays and Sundays.

  2. Thanks for the responses above, it seems that as one of our main reasons for going is snorkelling and because my wife sufferes badly from sea sickness Koh Lipe may not be a good option for us in September. I have done a lot of research and it seems that the safest bet might be Koh Tao?

  3. Hi,

Has can anyone comment as to whehter Koh Lipe is a good place to visit in September? I am thinking of heading down there but I remeber reading in the past that the island can be a bit neglected in the off-season and that there can be a lot of rubbish on the beaches as a result. Does anyone know how much of an issue this is?

    Thanks a lot.

  4. Hi, I need to travel the international airport at Bangkok from Koh Chiang tomorrow and need to be at the airport by 8.30 p.m. at the latest. I had planned to get the government bus from the pier direct to the airport at 14.00 but it seems that this might be too late as a friend who did the journey today didn't arrive there until nearly nine o'clock. Could someone tell me if busses that leave from Trad stop at the airport? I think if I get a bus from there a bit earlier I should be ok. Thanks a lot.

  5. Hello All,

I have recently moved in to a new house that is furnished withThai style park bench type sofas. I am looking to make the place a bit more comfortable, so I am hoping that I can find somewhere to buy some bean bags or large floor cushions to lounge about on, axe pillows are a last resort as I'm not keen on them.

Could anyone tell me where this sort of thing can be purchased? I have tried the Night Bizarre but no joy, apart from axe pillows.

    Thanks a lot.

  6. Yes there are, there is a fairly extensive list of things that might kill you on the organizer's website. I think I will be doing this in a decent pair of hiking boots as protection against that sort of thing.

  7. No not yet, we are still not 100% sure where we will be in October, just waiting to see how my wife's work pans out before committing.

We will also be doing the 50K and treating it as a trek rather than a race, seems like a nice way to see some remote parts of Thailand.

  8. Ok, thanks again, it seem that the best way to approach this is to be fully self-sufficient then and see any extra support as a bonus. Goof point re the water purification, I know someone who ended up seriously ill on one of these events because the organizers didn't provide enough water, and that was in a very well established race.

  9. Yes there are a lot of fads regarding what you should / shouldn't be eating. I just find having a balanced diet and taking in enough calories when training works for me. On race day just taking in plenty of calories, it doesn't seem to matter much where they come from as long as I make sure I eat something small every half an hour.

  10. Hi,

Thanks for you response, when you say that you have done many similar events do you mean in Asia or is this in your experience in your home country? I ask because I have completed events such as Iron Man UK and the support was great and although I did carry plenty of food and fluids I could have survived just fine on what was supplied by the organizers. However, I guess racing through remote jungle is a totally different kettle of fish to racing through Yorkshire!. I'm thinking a three litre hydration pack, electrolyte sachets, plenty of energy bars and a good first aid kit would be sufficient?

Thanks again for the advice it is appreciated.

  11. I think you can do the extra credits at a later date as long of none of your courses that would count towards an honours degree had expired - if they have an expiry date it's usually ten years and this should be stated on your study record.

Assuming you have already completed 120 points at level three you could just do sixty at level one to get your honours? By doing this you only need to scape a minimum pass and it would have no bearing on what class of honours you graduate with.

I currently have 300 points and am doing a level one course for the honours. Yes in theory it is eight months of study but in reality I am doing very little work because I'm not concerned with grades and with level two and three courses under my belt it is not particularly taxing. I think I will be finished way ahead of schedule.

Also I'm assuming you are presently getting you course fees at a reduced rate as you started this before the fees went up? If you have a break from your studies you may lose your rights to pay transition fees and end up paying a lot more to get the honours in the future.... Perhaps it's worth a little more pain now!!

  12. Hi,

I have entered Thailand on a three month ‘O-Type’ visa based on dependency on my wife who is training to be an English teacher.

Her training finishes mid-May and our visas expire at the end of May so it is unlikely that she will have gained employment by the time our visas expire.

When my visa expires I plan to leave Thailand and apply for a multiple-entry tourist visa which would effectively give me another six months in Thailand, assuming I can get extensions.

However ,a bit of research has revealed that it may be quite tricky to obtain a multiple-entry tourist visa from anywhere other than my home country, the UK, is that correct?

I had planned on travelling to Laos, Cambodia or Malaysia (Ideally Cambodia or Malaysia so I can do some diving). However I am now worried I may get refused re-entry.

Perhaps I would be better off enrolling in some kind of education and obtaining an Ed visa? I am interested in learning Thai or a martial art but I am currently studying for an Open University degree so I don’t really have time for that until August / September.

Any thoughts on the best course of action would be appreciated.

  13. Hi,

Can anyone recommend a nice secluded place to stay in Koh Tao with good snorkelling close by, budget 2000 - 3000 pn? The Ao Muang Resort looks ok but I am thinking that there might be better available for the same price?

    Thanks

  14. Thanks again all for the very helpful advice. As a couple of people have pointed out I have now probably left it too late to get stitches due to the risk of sealing bacteria in to the wound. With that in mind I went to a pharmacy who recommended I use a type of plaster called 'Flexigrid'. It seems to be holding the wound together nicely and I have maintained good use of my hand.
