  1. [

Am I right in thinking that is only free with the Mastercard cards rather than the normal VISA cards that are issued on the Flexaccount (or am I getting confused ?).

I would also like to know if BoA is free - I recall it being a bit and miss before.

My wife withdrew from B o Ayutthaya with eu VISA card twice last week. No 150 b fee.

  2. I use a prepaid happy DTAC SIM when I am in Thailand.

The cost was last time 49 THB for 24 hours. You can get it cheaper if you buy it monthly or weekly. Just phone *1003 as far as I remember.

But the speed is not very good upcountry. But Ok for emails but too slow for larger downloads.

  3. A few years ago I sent a complaint to TG in DK because all TG flights out of Cambodia had been cancelled because of riots and I had to buy a ticket on Bangkok Air to get out for 100$.

When I got home I phoned the local TG office in DK first and complained. They told me to send them a letter with complaint and ticket receipt.

I did that and got a check with the 100 $ in my mail within a week. So sometimes complains to TG do pay.

The ticket was an almosty free ROP ticket bought with points.

  4. I can confirm that TG also has this practise of a cheaper ticket for thais and and their relatives here in EU. It is usually an open 3 months ticket.

They sell it thru smaller travel agents owned by thais. As far as I know they don't sell it at the TG office. I think the discount is 20 to 30 percent on the AMADEUS price for a similar ticket. I have bought it some times when travelling with my Thai wife to Thailand.

But you can often find cheaper closed tickets with TG or other carriers so the deal is not always so good.

But the fact is that many thais prefer to travel directly with TG to Thailand because of language concerns. At least my wife is not willing to fly with a cheaper airline that don't fly nonstop to thailand when she is travelling alone.

I will not mention any names of travel agents as there is some controversy about this in EU.

  5. Why should a passenger need to present the credit/card used for booking if he/she is actually proving ID by providing a passport? I don't understand it.

Plus, why should people who forget/lose/replace/be isued a new debit/credit card be denied travel, in some cases the payment may have been processed months before?

Good question. You are right that the CC could have been lost after paying for ticket months in advance. At least TG bookings thru their website seemms strict in requiring that you show CC on first checkin.

I dont know what would happen if the CC had been lost in the meantime ? does any body know ?

  6. Lotta crap and untruths being posted here.

I have used CCs to pay for flites numerous times in OZ, US, S.E.A. and NZ.

Never once asked for CC in umpteen checks in over many years.

I buy tickets for my Filipina gal from MNL, Clark to BKK via KL_LCCT. to meet me when I arrive from NZ.

I have used my CC to buy her tickets on R.Brunei, MNL _ AKL.

She made these flites without a hitch.

CC and passports are able to be used at check in if you have lost your printout or have forgotten booking code.

I guess I am repeating an earlier post of mine.

Get a life you people, be fair.

My feeling here is a lot of posters are having fun scaremongering.

I have travelled a few times booking online with TG website and at fist leg checkin they have asked me to show CC.

On the other hand I have flown many times with Air Asia and SAS with online booking and have not been told to show CC.

So just because you have not experienced CC check does not mean that people are scaremongering.

  7. Now the danish embassy also warns agains the King Power/police scam:

It is in danish but is a warning about a danish woman that had to pay 65000 DKK(11000 USD) to police because she showed a lipstick to a friend. Maybe she took the lipstick across the shop border. It is not quite clear

    Here is a google translation:

Danes warned against airport police in Bangkok

    Published 20.07.09 kl. 14:01 (GMT+1)

Be careful if you shop in stores in the international airport in Bangkok. You risk being arrested and charged of corruption of Thai airport officials.

That is the warning from the Danish Embassy in Bangkok, who knows a young Danish woman who recently had problems at the airport.

"Be careful with the stores where there is open space, and it seems that you can freely move around," says Mads Beyer, who is deputy head of the embassy in Bangkok, to DR News.

    Claims for money

He says that the woman had taken a mascara or lipstick, and would show it to a fellow passager, who was just nearby. Without knowing it the unfortunate woman crossed a shop invisible border and was snatched by the police.

"The police who carried out the arrest, and a translator seemed very aggressive and let know that they must have a lot of money to help," says Mads Beyer, adding that the police clearly expresses that it can be a lengthy and difficult process if you do not choose to pay, says deputy head of DR News.

The embassy does not want to give details about the case, but according to BBC News has more visitors every month problems with the police at the airport.

Two British passengers were among others threatened that they would be thrown directly in the notorious Bangkok Hilton prison, where they had to wait two months before the case was handled, if they did not pay 65,000 kroner to the police and an interpreter to get " help "in this case ..

    Woman convicted of shoplifting

The Danish woman who was taken with makeup in hand, was convicted of shoplifting.

The embassy does not want to say hviken punishment she received, but Mads Beyer says that the typical punishment is a fine of 300-400 Danish kroner, and that it could two years of conditional imprisonment.

Beyer urges people first and foremost to take care not to cross a border store with something in his hand. Will is taken, the tourists refuse to give in to threats from the police, whose officers require bribes.

    - If people in trouble, it would be a good idea to contact the embassy. We are available to help when there are unpleasant things, "says Mads Beyer.

    - I can not guarantee that you do not get an unpleasant experience and a fright. But we are in a legal community, which ceteris paribus will have a trial. And we urge them to not be true to help to contact his embassy.

The Danish Embassy will now make contact with embassies from other EU countries to see how big the problem is and what we might do about it

  8. You can select the language before you login. The only problem with PP is when you register your bank account, that is in Thai. You will have to ask somebody to read that for you, or use your account book and find that letters for KBank.

Otherwise I recommend Moneybookers. It's way cheaper and faster than PP and it's European, no problems with currencies with the best currency exchange rates you can imagine. Sometimes better than here at the local banks.

Thanks Elcent, seems that I mange so solve my problems :) I can not (for ever reason) register my Kasikorn Visa Card, but no problem with my Norwegian Visa Card. The important thing for me was to register a Thai bank account, and I did. The onley reason as I can see, is that they want me to register i Visa Card for paying PalPal for the transfer feed. Problem solve :D

I was told by Kasikorn Bank that I could not use my Visa debit card online but only in physical terminals and ATMs.

  9. Many banks have sign posted that their interest rates for non residents are 0.0.

But I earlier had a savings account at Bangkok bank and did get paid interest.

Now I am considering opening a new account with Visa debit and web banking even though I am not resident here. Only coming often to see family.

Which thai bank would you recommend that will also pay me interest even though I have no resident permit?

  10. Hey, i'm still here and i've been looking around for some other airlines.

And found "Tiger Airways", which is giving a price of 7,750THB compared to 11,600 (phone price for air asia).

Has anyone here ever flown with Tiger Airways, any feedback would be appreciated.

I have flown with Tiger and they are about the same as Air Asia.

They take a small fee for paying with CC.

I also had problems 2 Years ago booking Airasia and even though my CC gave an error they still booked me and credited my CC and I ended up paying twice, . So in the end I had to reverse one of the charges via my bank as Airasia was not responsive to complaints.

But on the other hand I have many times since booked Airasia flights without problems. Just booked a BKK-PNH today using my EU VISA card with no popup or anything. Only waited 10 sec. for confirmation. I use Firefox as browser.

  11. Weren't we offered 50% cheaper airfares a couple of months back? Still waiting

The price of thai airways has just gone up 25%. flew back to thai last week and the plane was nearly empty so someone has to cover the fuel costs

Well I just bought a THai airways ticket reurn for 3900 DKK = 684 USD in end of MAY. This is around 20 to 25 % cheaper than low season TG tickets were last year. So they are certainly trying to fill their empty planes.

    This is for return CPH-BKK-CPH.

  12. Last time in Pattaya I saw they now have some Metered taxis looking like those from BKK but with a Pattaya sign on them.

Those I saw were not cruising but parked in front of a mall on second row.

Does anybody know if the meter rates are similar to Bangkok or how they operate?

  13. unlocked my Three dongle (huawei E220 usb modem) in seconds with an online unlocker in UK, partner took it to thailand, got a DTAC SIM card with a package of 250 hours internet a month for 500B and it works great in Bangkok on her laptop, almost as good as a internet cafe, even got good MSN Messenger webcam pictures and audio with no dropouts so far. She's heading upcountry tonight so will then see how good it is in a rural area

Where do you buy these DTAC SIM's with data packages? Is it in Your local 7-Eleven or are they only available in DTAC shops?

  14. Last week I had 2 taxis from sukh. soi 6 to BKK airport. The meter was around 230 B via toll way with no traffic jams. Add to that 70 B tollway fee. Total around 300 B.

The fare and fees in opposite direction should be around the same if You use taxis on arrival.

Tipping is not mandatory like in US. But the driver will be happy with 20 B which is better than nothing which is also an option I use with some rude drivers that dont help with luggage.
