  1. Deputy Government Spokesman Maj-General Sansern Kaewkamnerd said Thailand's judicial process was in line with international standards and no other country could intervene in it.

"But if anyone has concerns or doubts, they can ask questions or step in to observe," he said, adding that all suspects had the right to recant their confessions.

Seems the good General and the British Prime Minister have different takes on why the British Polie are coming to Thailand. At Question Time in the House of Parliament yesterday, in answer to a question from a Labour Member of Parliament who was asking why the Prime Minister was willing to authorise the British police to travel to Thailand but was unwilling to help in the case of a British National who was murderd in Greece, the PM said that the British Police were travelling to Thailand to give technical assitance to the Thai police and that it been agreed when he was sitting near to the Thai Prime Minister last week in Milan.

If the British police are only allowed to observe then they might as well not come.

  2. I am thinking about renting a house in Pattaya or Jomtien and would appreciate information of housing areas that are on or near to a bus route into town. I am partially sighted having lost the sight of my right eye in an incident many years ago in N. Ireland and prefer not to drive and my wife does not want to drive full stop. All sensible advice would be very welcomed. Thank you.

  3. Look on Tha iVisa classifieds - House rentals then go to the bottom of page and click Chiang Mai, there a few near to Meecjoke. Thanawan as it is known has two moobaans both close to Meechoke Plaza, Tesco, Seven eleven Rimping Supermarket, Fresh Market and most major banks. Tnanawan Two has a swimming pool. It's a very good location for someone who dosn't drive.

  4. Amphurs the best and by far the cheapest, I got married in Bangkok but divorced in the UK,they do NOT advise the Thai's,as I found out at the Amphur I was married at. I'm still listed as Married in Thailand

Thanks for your input, you were helpful. I have had three different quotes from lawyers in UK with the maximum cost including the 410 pounds for the court at between 600 and 1000 pounds.

As for what she might get it is already a done deal and she has signed a financial deal, so there will NOT be any unexpected demands. A friend who was in the position of having married in the UK found out that as his wife had not informed her Amphur that she had married in the UK, hey had her listed as a single lady. So I guess it works both ways.

  5. I am a UK citizen and married a Thai lady. I do not want to live in Thailand permanently and my wife does not want to live in the UK. even if she could. this situation has prevailed for a couple of years and we have both decided that we should end the marriage. Simple you say go to the Amphur and get a divorce. That is not an option according to my wife because she would lose face as she is well known by many people in the Amphur and the same applies to going through the Thai court system. So we have looked at the UK and as I am considered to have domicile in England and also am 'habitually resident' there we can proceed in the UK on 2 years separation. However before going down that road, my wife has asked me if the UK courts will report the divorce to the Thai Authorities and if so she will not proceed. If all else fails we will just remain married but living in different countries.

Anyone with info on this matter?

  6. I use my bangkok bank card online but you have to have it set up by the bank, the one they issue you with will not work online. Just go to the bank that issued it and tell them you want to use it online and they will help you with the paperwork. If you are outside bangkok you will have to wait for it to be sent off and processed.

The last sentence is not correct. I live and bank in Chiang Mai and on Tuesday of this week was issued with a card in Pattaya that serves both ATM and on-line purchases. It had to be set up by the bank and it took all of ten minutes The Bangkok Bank in Silom Road Bangkok informed me that as my account was held outside of Bangkok that I could go to any Bangkok Bank elsewhere in Thailand but not within Bangkok. this is because I was told there are different rules for Bangkok as opposed to the rest of Thailand.

  7. Watching Channel 3 today (11 Sep) the chap with the fake gun appears to have put the gun through the scanner and when walking through the electronic arch takes the gun out of his pocket. So maybe guys it's not his fault but that of the so-called security employees at CNX airport. A note of caution: my Thai is not that good and I am commenting from the pics on the TV. But my question is was this a put up job cos channel 3 appear to be present. Perhaps someone could explain what actually happened.

I know that security is lacking at this airport because my wife unknowingly carried a medium sized pair of scissors on a flight to Bangkok and we only realised it when we unpacked our carry-on bags in Bangkok. Not to be recommended!

  8. Let start out by saying I am not a computer wiz-kid but normally can deal with the internet. I wanted to find out what documention is required to apply for a UK tourist visa for my partner.

I registered for an account as instructed - thereafter chaos. I received an email back from them saying the account was successfully registered and in order to unlock the account I had to click on the link provided. Did this and I was directed to something called the 'UK Migration Service' who provided an assessment which was positive and then given options of how much I would want to pay for whichever particular service I wanted. I Have no need of the UK Migration Service!

Why do the the British Embassy/ Border Control Agency who after all control the visa service through VFS Global make it so difficult to get information. Is it any wonder foreigners are put off going to the UK when you have to jump through so many hoops!!

Anyone know what I did wrong.

  9.

My thanks to both CMSally and naboo for their help.   You were spot on.    For naboo the google reference is a little suspect in that it comes up with coordinates which my computer interprets as somewhere in the desert of The Yeman/Saudi Arabia, but not to worry the sand in the engine of my car was not a big problem!  All is well that ends well.  Thanks again to both of you.

  10. Correct on your thoughts. Have your certificates notarized by the British Consulate. This is the only 100% certification that will be excepted for you any other way  your playing with fire.

The treaty your reefing to is  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apostille_Convention

Thank you for your helpful reply.  Spoke to Consulate today and indeed they will notarise my documents but only after I have taken them to the Min of Foreign Affairs Thailand for validation.

They have also told me that whether my documents would be acceptable to the courts in UK after this process depends on the court and I should make contact with them to clarify the matter.   So that's what I've done and I await a reply.

  11. I am required to have my Thai marriage certificate and its accompanying English translation notarized before a court in the UK will accept them.   I am also informed that because Thailand has not signed the 1961(?) Geneva Agreement or some such document, that a document notarized by a Thai Notary will not be acceptable.

    Is the above correct?

I would appreciate advice from anyone who has genuine knowledge on this subject.

    Many thanks

  12. I recently returned to Chiang Mai and was so disappointed with the Rimping Store at Meechoke.   The selection of fresh meat is poor and what there is on display has sometimes been there for days - and yes I do shop nearly everyday - and many shelf items are just not available.   Not sure whether it has anything to do with the move of the very efficient lady manager to the Rimping Store near the Iron Bridge in Chiang Mai.    Plus there does not appear to be one member of staff who can speak English or answer queries with any knowledge of products.   Come on Rimping Management Pill your finger out!

  13.

Wey hey ... i found them

    thanks wg

    dave2

£1.05 on the tin price in UK, but 165 baht ( £3) here!! Rice puds one of the easiest things to make ever.

Rice, Carnation type milk, Sugar,  mix em all up, in the oven at about 200 degrees for about three hours......a fraction of the price, and you get that lovely skin on top!! You can even freeze portions for whenever you feel like some.

Try it, seriously, its really easy.

Sounds good and I want to make some myself - can you tell us the quantities of each please.

  14. Does anybody know if it is possible to buy lambs liver in Chiang Mai. Have looked in Rimping and Tops but no success. Since lambs liver is not normally an item Thais would buy I have not checked Big C or Tesco.
