Goodday to All. I have recently moved to live in Chiangmai and would appreciate help in locating a shop selling National Flags. My wife is very keen that we have the various Thai Flags outside the house, so whilst we are at it I would also like the flag of the cross of St George.

At the very beginning of this problem I praised Kuhn Suthep in one of the very few posts I have made. I was sure he would prevail and it looks as though he will. Furthermore his quest to get an independent Prime Minister also looks possible as I read that the rumour mill says that a retired General, who is probably more right than left, is likely to be nominated this week. I sincerely hope that if this is the case he will accept the task of delivering Thailand from the evil that is Thaksin.
I just spent that last five days touring around Issan and I was surprised that the majority of people I spoke with - whilst not wanting the Democrats also do not want Thaksin. They feel let down by him and told me that he used them to increase his wealth. So maybe there is hope for Thailand after all. Providing the various reforms are implemented, then whatever the outcome - and yes PTP may win the election, but I do not believe they will have such a large majority - then democracy will have triumphed!
All the TV posters who for whatever reason who have called Khun Suthep a wide selection names are I believe going to be bitterly disappointed with the final outcome as I believe the Thai nation has finally awoken and that is due mainly to one man.Khun Suthep. Sir I salute you. Thialand will forever be in your debt.

Their are claims that the NACC are corrupt, bias agency that are abusing their powers. Most people wouldn't disagree with that assessment.
Once the dust is settled, hopefully justice is served to the members of this group and they go behind bars.
If I had a pound sterling every time I have heard ' There have been many complaints about..........' or in your case 'there are claims...." I would be a very rich man. If that is what you think say so, don't hide behind a generalisation. it does not become you and for what it is worth you really do spout total and utter rubbish'
I have been reading the comments on TV over the past few months and I think you are in the wrong country. Surely you should be in N Korea where I think your views would go down well. Oh so solly, I forgot you are not allowed to have a view in N Korea!
The woman and her corrupt immediate cabinet got their just rewards yesterday and I live in hope that she will find a comfortable bed in a suitable prison where she can spend the next few years contemplating her foolishness and mis-deamours.

I would recommend that viewing of the film 'The Railway Man' be made compulsory for everyone. Why so? Because the over-riding message of the movie which concerns the hate carried by a British Ex POW for most of his life of a Japanese Soldier that sometime the hate has to stop. A very moving film a well worth watching.

A long drawn out election process serves only to continue the instability. Thailand needs the House back asap as there are fiscal costs to not being able to operate the government. What we have now is a non government where normal operating expendures are precluded and where spending is overseen by a non elected entity. Multiple governments have election laws that require elections to be held within 30 to 60 days after the call. 90 -120+days is too long. What exactly will be achieved by delaying save for more economic damage to occur. Get it over and done with. If the Democrats win, so be it.
In normal circumstances I would have agreed with you about the delay, but current circumstances are far from normal. If the election should by any chance go ahead it will be a case of 2 Feb all over again. It would appear that the PTP agenda has a sense of urgency to utilise the current flawed system which favours them and to ensure that their place at the head of the trough queue is preserved, it is certainly not in the interest of the country or financial prudence unless of course, you are referring to their particular bank balances.
The solution is simple: An interim government where all the current key players are not involved. Agree the reforms that can be put in place - say by the end of the year- and then hold the election. At this juncture it may be necessary for the military to be put on alert, just in case the 'reds' don't like it, which is a distinct possibility.
Thailand should not nor need to, to rush into a further crisis.

The 'Democrats' need to understand that there is going to be an election. They can choose to be part of the democratic process or resign themselves to being nothing more than a footnote in the history of Thai politics.
Totally agree with you but you forgot part of your comment in that you should have said 'after the reforms are put in place'. I think everybody except the flawed personalities in PTP and their 'red' supporters agree that if elections are to be held they must be on a level playing field. If the Democrats agree to anything less they will lose the vote of the South, so it really is a no brainer for them. So don't anticipate an election before July/August at the earliest and then only then if Kuhn Suthep agrees the terms and reforms are acceptable.
Thailand should be so grateful to Kuhn Suthep and I think in time it will be, that he had the drive to do something about the current system

I have been actively looking to find a dvd of the movie 'The Railway Man' starring Colin Firth which is the story of one Eric Lomax who was a POW of the Japanese during the second world war. I have read the book and now would like to see the movie. However I am being met by a shaking of the head by all Thai shop assistants and one went so far to say it's not coming to Thailand.
Does this mean that the Thai censor has decided that the story is too difficult to screen in LOS. As far as I am aware there is nothing critical of Thailand in the book and really the whole message of the book an the movie is one of 'Sometime the hate has to stop". A very worthy message.
It has been released in Japan so I cannot see any reason for Thailand to censor it.
Any info would be appreciated.

Why do Thais shilly-shally all the time and never actually get on and DO something?
Because the simple fact is that they hate confrontation in whatever form.

yet they still wasted millions of litres of water over the Songkran celebrations, thats really smart thinking. What a pack of idiots, if water levels are that bad why waste it, it is equivelent of people throwing away food while they starve, bloody dropkicks and now they all want sympathy and govt help no doubt to grow crops etc
I agree with you 100% plus. The bloodly idiots both Thai and Foreigners are throwing water away here in Pattaya today and then they will be moaning that there is a water shortage. And know I am not a kill joy just someone with a sense of responsibility which is obviously in short supply here in Thailand!

PTP will win by a large margin but not because of vote buying, it will be because the opposition are such pathetic failures that have been subverting democracy for the last few months that no body in their right minds would want to vote for them.
What an appropriate picture for dear old moonao - a salviating dog! My spies tell me not to get too worked up about this announcement as it is more an objective than a reality. If the election is held - which I honestly doubt will be the case given the decisions that will be made over the next two to three weeks - before the reforms are agreed, the outcome of the election will be the same as Feb 2. Sorry to spoil your day moonao but Granpa Suthep just ani't going to let you or PTP rain on his parade!

Whatever it takes there must be no election before reforms are put in place. The powers that be must ensure that the criminal giving his orders from his desert palace is told he is not wanted. If there is an election prior to the reforms then the past months of sacrifice of Kuhn Suthep and his people will have been for nothing and the curruption of the PTP will continue unabated.
The Dems must state categorically that they will take part in a new election subject to the reforms being put in place and it might be time to replace Kuhn Abhsit as the leader because he is tainted - rightly or wrongly - (wrongly in my opinion) by the events of 2010 and no matter what the court decides when they hear the charges against him the people of Issarn will never accept him, as in their eyes his is guilty because of the propaganda put out by the 'reds'.

'He recalled that previously Thai people would help each other but today this culture has vanished and replaced by aggressive gesture instead.
Beating, mud slinging and lying are all what happened today', he said.He should know because it is his vanity and greed which has caused the current situation.

Recently purchased one rai of land in village of Baan Nu Ka (I think) - on road from Nam Phong to Kraneum for g/f. Land was sugar cane and others have built in same area.
Will need to 'buildup" and wanting to estimate cost. Not sure if we will build up all the one rai or just the house area which will not be overly grand, just sufficient for g/f and her daughter.
Will want to encase the land by a wall and again would welcome estimate of cost.
One further question is how long should we allow the land to settle after buildup. Have been told many different opinions from "immediately to two years'.
Will a budget of one million for house only suffice or do I need to allocate more. I have no idea whatsoever!!!
Many thanks
