Must Read Thailand to allow quarantine-free travel from 46 countries, PM says
kennw replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
So it's not as bad as before so thats good? Wake up, analyze the intent, if its so that you can be "contacted", then straight to your own apartment should be allowed. If it is to keep you in a secure hotel to keep you away from others until the test result is positive, then this is quarantine. Say it like it is. "One day quarantine if test is positive". -
A nightmare is unfolding.....

Set up your own loud speaker system and play farang music very loudly directly at his place whenever he starts up. The two sounds should not be compatible so maybe his customers will not come. Offer negotiations about sound levels. -
Logistical nightmare, "OK tourists join the queue, have your cash ready" Oh need to convert your currency go to the bank over there and the come back to end of queue. Oh credit card, sorry we dont accept that one do you have another. Sorry our system is down at the moment, wait over there. Mexico, Thailand and more could be removed from red travel list

WHO says 5% positive of those tested indicates covid under control. To keep daily new case numbers low, Thailand seems not to do random testing (only suspects) and this shows up as a 26% positive rate. As noted above "manipulation of data. Opening the country should be based on the WHO criteria not the daily new case that can be manipulated by limiting test numbers. -
Great summary, but I think Khun Annon Parichon who was appointed by the military formed the best govt Thailand has seen. Thaksin destroyed democracy in Thailand due to his greed for power. Why use schemes to get money to buy votes (Diesel scams etc) when you can promise double world price for rice which will be paid by govt (peoples) money. Divide the people into red and yellow ,terrible and still exists. Army not perfect but at least allow a reset. Still unable to get rid of the old bad politicians. In summary, for us the old times much better, for Thais the future has better prospects if they can find a leader with the integrity of Prayut without the baggage.

My understanding you cannot get an Australian govt aged pension unless you reside IN Australia. You are also means tested there and you lose a portion of the pension if you holiday overseas. Cut is decided on the period out of the country.

Thailand's 'draconian' alcohol laws in the spotlight
kennw replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
No! it was brought in when some NGO's said Thailand had an alcoholism problem and they recommended taxing on the basis of alcohol content. But the up country drink is Law cow 40% + but they were Taksin's voters so no way could they do this,so the 2-5 was brought in. Of course it only works in the larger seller places in Bangkok. Total stupid politics. Late lunch in good resturant, no alcohol, walk around the corner to the small shop, no problems -
Just think yourself lucky, not like many Thais (and others) who live in apartment blocks where the owner of the block read their own meter at each room and then bill the renter at 8 Baht/unit. I think it is illegal (to resell electricity) but it is very common.
