But you see no issue in applying for the WP on my single (or multiple) entry type O then Joe?
Not if the extension is based upon marriage. It is not tied to the job.

I will be starting a new job in mid August and decided to get my WP based on a Non-Imm Type O. I will get the visa from Laos.
When I come back into Thailand I will have a 90 day stay permitted (single) or multiple x90 days (multiple).
However I need to apply for the WP immediately when I come back in. Is that possible on that 90day stay?
If I have to get a 1 year extension before applying for WP, then that would mean I have to wait 60 days until I can apply for that extension, Which will not work for me.
Can someone clarify (@ubonjoe ?)

Your welcome. Also note you need to do the online cancel notification a couple days ahead of going in. I'm going through the process now but letting the company agent do all the notification stuff. They also should cancel your work permit or you'll have an issue when applying for a new one.
OK, noted, thanks for the great guidance.

If your current Non-B is BOI through the One-Stop at Charmjuree they give you 7 days grace after cancelling your visa. You can go get the cancel stamp up to 2 weeks before. Example go on July 18th to cancel visa. They will stamp cancelled as of July 31 and must leave the country by August 6th.
Yes it is indeed One Stop Chamchuree. That's excellent news, thank you so much !

With a non imm O visa or extension the company can apply for your WP, no need to leave Thailand. Did it for years in Thailand.
The reason companies want you to get a B is because when you get your extension they think it gives them control over you, extension ends at the same time as the job.
With a visa or extension based on being married ( O ) you keep them and no-one can cancel them.
Don't care what your company lawyers say, an O is fine for a WP. Ask your local labour office, lawyers and Imm know nothing about it.
Thanks. Well I wouldn't say it is because of having control - these are companies I have known and worked with for years. In my experience Its more a case that usually the lawyers or HR are so used to doing it with a Type B, but I know for a fact (as you pointed out) many people get a WP based on an O. I was just wondering if there are any special conditions attached to that, for example only with BOI/One-stop privilege companies, or can it be via Labour Dept application as normal.

I am changing jobs in Thailand and have come across a requirement for a new Non-Imm B I have not experienced before, for a WP3 letter from Ministry of Labour (a pre-auth for a work permit)
To apply for Type B visa for my new job I have been told by company lawyers (Deloitte nonetheless) that
a) I have to be outside of the country when a WP3 is applied for by the company. This process will take about 5-6 days
b) They will courier the WP3 letter to me, which I must use when applying for the Type B
c) The MFA also recommends you apply for the type B in the country of your residence (my case the UK and a very expensive trip) but I have never had to do that before.
I have never experienced this WP3 requirement before. Questions:
1) Is this because new WP will be from Ministry of Labour, and not the One Stop Service (my previous employers had One Stop privileges) ?
2) The Vientiane Thai embassy says "A copy work permit or WP3 document issued by Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare if the applicant has previously worked in Thailand." I think in the case of a work permit instead of a WP3, this is for when you are renewing a Type B for the same company? Can anyone clarify?
3) As I have family (wife/child) here I am wondering to skip all of this and get a non-O. And apply for a Work Permit from within the country on this. Is this only possible in One Stop? Any reason why my new company couldn't do this via Ministry of Labour? The company lawyers are recommending the Type B but I fail to see why
Many thanks
The ministry of labour also recommends you

I will soon be cancelling my current Non-Imm Type B visa/re-entry. My new job will commence a few weeks after the cancellation so I will leave the country temporarily.
How many days after cancellation am I granted before I must leave or be fined overstay?

It is still next day service.
Since they started the online appointment requirement it is not as busy now.
Appointment site is here: https://thaivisavientiane.com/#
Ah I see - it is now appointment based. Any idea from comments you see in forums, how far an advance and appointment needs to be made?

Is the Thai Embassy in Vientiane still providing next day processing time for visas? i.e. submit in morning of day 1 and receive in afternoon of day 2.
I had seen some comments in forums related to 'problems at Vientiane' or overloading so processing times was many days.
Could someone verify if this is the case or not.
(The Embassy website still mentions next day processing time in Thai language)

Hi
I need to get an immigration letter of residency for renewing my driving licence.
I own a condo, so do not have a rental agreement, and I don't have a thabian baan (but I do have the chanote).
Can I get a letter from the Juristic Office certifying my ownership and address to present to immigration ?

To be technically correct, you apply for an extension which they refuse. They then give you seven days to leave the country.
I once switched employers without having to leave the country, and got it all done in about half a day. If you have full co-operation from both old and new, and if they are located in the same province, it might be do-able. Have the personnel officer of your new employer check in advance with all involved.
Thanks. Yes, these are big international companies, so it should be technically feasible. The other option (which I would prefer) would be to exit and get a Non Imm type O (support wife/family) and to get work permit on top of that. I believe that is also quite a common practice, and I would prefer this as it detaches visa from the job dependency

I am changing employer and have a Non-Imm Type B visa.
Normally you have to leave the country after your current employment ends.
How many days do you have to leave the country? 7 days?
Although I understand good visa agencies can transfer to the new company Type B without you leaving the country (typically companies permitted to use one-stop centre)
Can someone advise

They are seldom denied. If there was a problem with the application they will contact you resolve the problem.
You would have to leave the country every 90 days for a new entry.
Understood and very clear answer. Thank you

You would apply for a one year extension of stay based upon marriage at immigration during the last 30 days of the 90 day entry from the non-o visa. You would need 400k baht in a Thai bank in your name only for 2 months on the date you apply or proof of 40k baht.
After the application is accepted you would get a under consideration stamp with report back date 30 days later. The application has to be approved at the division level of immigration.
Very clear response Joe. So there is a chance I may not get the extension (though very unlikely I would imagine). If multiple entry in Savanakhet, presumably this is 1 year multi, and would that mean visa runs every 90 days ?
-
As I will be taking a break from work (non-B visa will cease therefore) I would like to apply for a 1 year Non-O visa based on family support. I plan to apply at Savanakhet, Laos.
They offer both single and multiple entry visas but I am unsure if the multiple entry (at 5000Bt) is worth it.
Can someone explain if single entry the process of getting extensions for up to 1 year is?

Hi, I will be renting out a property in the Sattahip district, for 3 months. I understand I will been in inform immigration or the tessaban of the rental as the occupants are foreign nationals. Can anyone clarify the process here and can it be done at the tessaban office?

Thanks Allane and WIlson. Interested to hear. I think if I can connect my current and new employer in advance we can work it out - cheers

Hi All,
I have a non-imm type B visa/re-entry valid until 2019 (BOI sponsored, via one stop shop). However, I will be leaving this employer on 30 Nov, and starting with a new employer the following week.
Is it still the case that you have to leave the country immediately when your employment terminates? Is there any grace period if so (like within 7 days)?
Or, can you remain in the country and transition from one employer to another at immigration or one-stop?

You can only get a Thai passport if you have Thai citizenship
My understanding too - hence the question when a long term person raised it

Pretty sure you have to have held PR for 10 years before you can apply for citizenship and a Thai passport.
For PR you must hold extensions of stay for 3 years and must still have when you apply..
Limited to 100 applicants from each nation per year.
Thanks - that was my understanding precisely too
-
Hi All
A long term resident friend recently told me there is a method to getting a Thai passport that is not the same as PR or citizenship. I was not aware of such a possibility.
1. Would like to ask forum experts here if such a thing exists.
2. Assuming no, I would like to recommendations for agencies or lawyers to assist with applying for PR (I have been here 20 years on a variety of work visas)
Thanks,

Bangkok immigration does not enforce TM30 reporting for individuals. You have nothing to worry about.
Perfect - as I thought. Do you happen to know for Chonburi? The person who raised this with me is a businessman in Sattahip

That depends upon the immigration office he is reporting to. Some do not require the reports.
Specifically I have a a 2 year non-B with multi re-entry. I live and work in BKK and visa was handled by one-stop at Chamchuri Square.
I believed with regular business trips every month, no additional reporting is required
