The comment about an IDP being a "an International DrivING PERMIT" and not a license might seem overly pedantic, but it isn't. It's important to realize it's not a license. You can't use an IDP as a license, it must be accompanied by the actual license that is described in the permit. An IDP is simply an internationally accepted translation of a valid license.
