  1. How is it possible that one day its ok and the next day shit again and how about the same provider TWS runs ok on one location but shitty on the next location.

If i had the naswer to that question, i would be a happy man.

There is no easy answer, seemingly your tendency to move around makes your quest for a good connection, "pot luck"

Even guys like Lanna have had to resort to dual ISPs to overcome this situation.

Its clear that TWS is very sensitive to any degradation in packet transmission or signal quality, Thailands internet infrastructure is very good at providing those degraded signals, dropouts and all manner of other idiosyncrasies that will upset TWS.

For 36 hours last week I was totally unable to access any internet webites, yet TWS worked flawlessy on the same connection.

I use DTAC Edge GPRS as back up. TWS runs fine but a little "retarded" on that.

Its a royal pain in the ass isnt it?

  2. What is ur problem exactly?

Shabby internet connections in Thailand :-), thats all. it works perfectly in other countries.

Its just here, they constantly mess around here with configurations and DSLAM contention ratios.

I just had my building upgrade one of the incoming lines from the indy 1 meg line to the Premier 1024/512 TT&T package. I can see vast imprrovment in ping times and tracerts to NY and HK servers.

I will see whether the the dreaded magenta grid / log in box / red data connection dropouts are occuring and report back here....

  3. Lanna, yes sorry thats the way to go, a ticket or you can call the Honk Kong office on +852 2156 7907

I'm with Maxnet too, its been dreadful connecting for the last 2 weeks but last night TWS worked perfectly. I noted that I could only get to about 20% of websites outside of thailand and about 50% of websites inside Thailand.

I was told last week by a visiting engineer that TT&Ts IIG (international internet gateway is not fully operational or has some problems that were to be recified over the weekend just passed.

lets hope over the next few days things improve and I can get back to shorting as the markets collapse again through sub prime worries :o

  4. The solution has been to change my speed back to a 1MB connection and pay an extra 90THB a month (1,090THB) for a Premier 1024/512 account! The Premier accounts ARE intended for "international surf".

The Premier account that costs 1090 baht is 256/126

The 1mb Premier package is 3900 baht per month.

Anyways, these numbers like 256/126 etc mean very little, just keep switching packages until you find something you canm work with

  5. Lanna,

Another member based in Bangkok pm'ed me to say the HK server is a good move.

You can use ping plotter to trace to it at gw1.ibllc.com.hk

I get much better responses to HK than NY

I'm also on maxnet here, and have Indy package, 1 meg that alledgedly has been upgraded for free to 2 meg :o

I just just moved into this place and the line is about a month old, everything worked perfectly until last thursday since then its been awful with all the dropouts you describe. Something happend last week for me to mess things up. I didnt get a single drop out, not once for 8 hours each day for a whole month, then it goes really bad and nobody knows what went wrong. :D

  6. I make my money trading picks from the HUI Amex Gold Bugs Index. I tend to buy into Freeport McMoran (FCX) Agnico Eagle (AEM) when the index has fallen to its support level at about 322 or below. I move into short positions at around resistance at 368 adding any other stock from the 14 that make up the Index that looks overbought/ expensive.

This Index goes up and down all the time and its volatility is perfect for earning easy money.

FCX dipped to an incredibly cheap 67 $ down from 95 $ during the recent sell off. its bounced back nicely and now sits at about 87 $ and will pass 100 $ when the HUI fires up again after this sub prime carnage gets tidied up

There seems to be a belief that the American goverment is capping the gold price by heavy periods of selling which then cause the HUI index to fall back sharply. I for one believe there is a strong possibilty that there is some truth in this because, lets face it the Dollar has only on worldwide threat to its throne as world currency...gold. (forget about the EURO, incase your thinking that).

  7. re this

Nong Khai immigration told me i have to take the owner of the building with me. I rent a condo and the owner was good enough to send me copies if his ID card and tabien for the condo building which were both signed.

Off i went to NK and was told that the guy had to attend in person......which of course he will not do.

I pointed out that this was ridiculous but they did not seem to care that i had reached a dead end.

This is rule in thailand...u foroegner...etc etc etc

  8. Immigration issues these documents to those on extensions of stay for one year and doing 90 day address reports.

I recently got a copy of the document that immigration officers refer to as a requirment for this document from Nong Khai. After having it translated I can see no mention of the above.

The visa requirement stated was for non immigrant only.

I failed to be issued with a residence certificate because I did not have the person who owns the condo i rent from present with me at the office.( a quite ridiculous requirement that underlines the lack of thought that goes into dreaming up some of these foolish rules)

Even though the document is expensive at your Embassy/consulate, its the best option to take because the amount of time wasted / stress generated at Thai immigration.

  9. By simpler I assume you mean non tourist.

If your ready to ditch the rat race and go native you can house, clothe and feed yourself here in a location similar to the one you mentioned for as little as 10,000 baht per month. That includes a few cheeky beers also.

Its all down to disipline though. 20,000 naht per month income should be the minumum you have to get a reasonable life here.

Others will say a lot more but they would be the guys who come to Thailand for reasons other than the ones you outline.

Small bungalow start at 700,000 baht but you should rent for at least one year while you find you feet. renting is cheap....dirt cheap. Property ownership is another tricky subject here, you cannot as a foreigner own land. you can own the brick that make your house but not the land. this has to be leased for 30 years or registered in the name of a Thai national.

The latter normally ends in tears further endorsing the popularity of renting property.

I feel that your plan for a gym or some kind of community work would be well recived and that would do a little to enhance the image of the foreigners here.

    Good luck!

  10. Your in the early stages of contracting "ATM syndrome" this debilitating disease eats away at your central monetary system causing nausea and heartache. The prognosis is not good, once you have this disease it stays with you until death or financial ruin - whichever comes first.

  11. Had a case today.

A friend introduce this German couple to a lawyer. They had visited Thailand and fell in love with the country. Bought a house and was told they could not put it in their name. The lawyer introduce them to his "friend called Noi." They wired the money to Noi's account and she bought the house. The lawyer then states "we need to form a company to transfer the house into the company." He wants 180K to form the company. They get suspicious as they felt this was too much to form a company. The couples friend refuses to negotiate.

The German couple asked to see the title deed of the house bought by the friend of the lawyer "Noi", who then stated she “lost it” as well the excuse “ I never got it in the first place at the Land Dept.”

We are approached at this stage and stated Noi to file a police report on the lost chanote and reco for Noi to do a long term lease for the couple. Noi refuses to do a long term lease as it is "her house and land", in her name. It was a gift from them!

They now are in Germany wondering want they did wrong?

    LOL Tought sh1t

There are loads of dummies like this arriving every day.

The are plenty of highly visible companies like Sunbelt who prevent this kind of thing happening daily.

No sympathy for them at all.

If your stupid enough to transfer money to a person you never met then you dont deserve to hang onto the money.

There is zero legal recourse here against saying it is a gift.

Thailand loves idiots like this, it perpetuates the myth that farangs have more money than sense.
