  1. Don't bother replying to the person above, cause most probably he is a troll, leaving similiar messages to similiar topics. Like this:

Well, 2,000 baht is good enough for me.  Some of those places are quite luxurious!  Considering I've been homeless(hello ladies! giggle.gif ) for much of my life, that tuk tuk room would be a massive improvement in my standard of living.w00t.gif  I'm just a homeless man seeking shelter in Pattaya, Thailand.  Don't need anything special!  In fact, was considering downsizing to a 1,000 baht (monthly) shell room but I think I'll "upsize" to 2,000 baht per month. Kindof feel rich right now so I guess I'll "splurge" a little.clap2.gif

  2. Depending on their occupancy, at times Contemp's owner will negotiate. If you are financially able, offer him the full rental term up front, he does like lump sums. I live nearby and have several friends who have stayed there. The swimming pool is very small...like 2 strokes a lap. It is a pretty good deal as almost everything (fridge, microwave, TV & cable, WiFi) are included in the price.

Contemps location, despite being very close to '71, is really very quiet. Moto taxi to BTS is B20, 15 to 20 minute walk. Many decent but inexpensive restaurants nearby including some with western selections. Supermarket close by as well.

As I recall, electricity is marked up to B7/unit. One friend ran his a/c pretty much 24/7 and his bill came to about B2000/mo.

Me Sawan 2, off Pridi 14 (take soi 1 off 14, then first left to end) has a recently renovated, decent sized pool and a fitness room. Nice studios so usually full but worth checking out.

There are a fair number of newly constructed apartment buildings in the side sois off Pridi 14 though most won't have pools. The downside with Pridi 14 is it is tough walking...narrow and congested with no sidewalks.

I believe there are several decent buildings with pools off Pridi 25.

There is an athletic club with a large pool off either Pridi 47 or 49 with daily use rates.

    dddave,

You are great help as always, thank you very much. I got aware of Contemp thanks to you, its location is really great. They told my Thai friend that with or without contract its 8000 baht, and I was surprised, since most of the condos usually give cheaper prices for 6 month/1 year contact. But when I go to Bkk, I'll negotiate as you told.

I couldn't find any info on Me Sawan 2, do you have an e-mail address or phone number please?

    Thanks a lot again.

  3. Hello,

I'll come to Thailand on December and I'm looking for a studio around Sukhumvit Soi 71 or Soi 77 (On Nut). I prefer a studio with TV/fridge/microwave for maximum 7000 baht/pm on a 6 month or 1 year contract. Also I prefer a place with a swimming pool.

Years ago I stayed with my gf at Krongthong Mansion on On Nut. It is a nice option, but doesn't have a swimming pool.

Someone suggested Contemp at Suk 71 on another thread, but a Thai friend called them and they said the price is 8000 baht.

I found another place called Pornphirun Place also at Suk 71. I think the prices are about 7000b and it has a nice swimming pool as well. Has anyone stayed at this place, do you recommend it?

Other recommendations are greatly appreciated as well.

    Thanks a lot

  4. Hello,
I was looking for an up-to-date list of Thailand border crossings that are open to foreigners. I couldn't find one, so I decided to make a list myself. Can you please check it and tell if it's complete or not?
    Thanks

  5. Safe really ? Perhaps but it is an over rated expensive crap hole. Superior places to stay in Bangkok. Let me guess are you one of the FMP nitwits?

People like you really disgust me. You have categorized words like "backpacker, ksr, fmp" all together and have a hatred towards all. You think you are the best, and all other frangs are stupid. In truth, you are just a hateful, miserable, lonely, pathetic person, who doesn't have the ability to empathize with other people. Probably you had a really sad youth as well, since you're so eager to blame young people. I really pity you. But sadly there is a lot of people like you in Thailand, and especially on this forum.

  6. Hello,

I'm very curious about this subject and I hope this is the right forum section for this question.

At Facebook, I'm seeing pictures of Thai people at funerals, and it's very different from western funerals. There's always sadness in the west, but at Thai funerals I see people posing for the camera smiling, just in front of the coffin.

Ok, I know according to Buddhism the deceased will reborn, so this is not an end. But still it buffles me how they can stay this calm. So for example, how does a Thai person feel when he/she loses his/her best friend? How do they cope with this?

Also, I have noticed that Thais are very comfortable about sharing pictures of corpses. For example, I was quite shocked to see that many Thais on my list shared the murder scene pictures of Koh Tao backpackers. Or just today, I saw the picture of a dead baby at my timeline. How can they be that much comfortable about the subject of death?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not accusing them or anything. I'm just trying to think like a Thai, emphatize.

    Thanks

  7. Thanks for all the replies.

@ casualbiker, yes it is out of stock now but it says temporarily. Because it's a brand new model, probably there's a high demand for it now.

Btw, does anyone have any experience with Lenovo smartphones? I have noticed them at Lazada, very economical prices. Currently I'm using a Lenovo laptop and it's really nice. Their phones are cheaper than Motorola, so maybe I can go for a Lenovo phone as well.

  8. Hello,

Soon I'll come Thailand for 1 year to study Thai. While I'm there, I'm thinking of ordering a 2nd gen. Motorola Moto G smartphone from Amazon.

Currently I live in Turkey and Amazon does not ship here. And the government does not allow mobiles phones that came via postal services into Turkey anyway.

So my question is, does Amazon ship to Thailand and can I get the phone without any hassle? I mean even if they do ship, is there going to be any problems at the customs? Are there any taxes, if there are, are they expensive?

The phone on Lazada is 7,888 baht. If I order from Amazon, it's about 5,900 baht.

Any thought and recommendations are greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

  9. Do you get rape and murder at rave parties in your home country, maybe the occasional bit of trouble, but nothing to the extent you get here.Hope none of your family suffer a similar fate as the 2 young innocent holiday makers. If being a grumpy old man helps to save a life then I am a grumpy old man. There is a word for people like you "SYCOPHANT".

Are you out of your mind? What does the murder of 2 holiday makers have to do with FMP? Are you aware that murders happened at Ko Tao, not Ko Phangan? And the funniest part is, you are thinking that by being a grumpy old man you are saving lifes, lol.

And for your question, yes, although the rape on Ko Tao has nothing to do with FMP, people get raped at raves and festivals in Europe. For example, this summer a young girl was raped at Reading Festival, here is the link: http://news.sky.com/story/1323121/boy-arrested-after-reading-festival-rape

This has nothing to do about being in Thailand or Europe. You are just another grumpy old man trying to put more blame on Thailand than it deserves. Some people do horrible things when they are high, but majority of people have a good time at those parties.

Banning of other parties is a very unluck move, just a show off by the authorities so they seem like they are doing something. KPN is usually not very crowded, but close to the FMP thousands of crazy teenagers flock to the island and the majority leaves just afterwards. Black Moon Party, Half Moon Party, Jungle Experience etc attracts a much more mature and responsible crowd, and you rarely encounter any problems.

  10. Well after all, it looks like I need to apply for ED visa in Turkey. I have contacted Pro Language School, and they told me that Turkey is classified a a middle eastern country. So we need to apply in our home country, and we also need a criminal check. Turkey is generally classified as a European country, I don't know why Thai government decided that we are middle-eastern. Unfortunately many Turks in Thailand are in the business of credit card fraud, maybe that's why they require a criminal check now.

  11. What is wrong with people in this forum? You are not happy when there are no suspects, and you are also not happy when there are suspects. Who cares if you believe it or not? Probably more than 100 pages of comments in total have been posted about this subject. What it is good for? It will not change anything at all. I really envy you all, you have a lot of time to waste.

And my 2 cents about why Burmese are probably guilty: Sex is very cheaply available for Thais, and they don't desire farang women at all. No Thai would take the risk of jail time or even death sentence just to have sex. On the other hand, Burmese are saving money, every satang is important to them. So probably they don't have access to cheap sex. Also because of their colonial past, probably they are more into farang women. It makes perfect sense that they were the true suspects.

  12. Hi,

I'm thinking of taking a Thai language course for 1 year. I'm living in Turkey, and I called the Thai embassy in Ankara to get info. It looks like it also get very strict there afte the coup. If I understood correctly, they told me something like they are only giving ED visas if you are studying Thai for 6 hours a day. 6 hours seems a bit insane to me.

I'm thinking of applying to a normal school like Unity. Should I apply for it when I'm in Turkey and start the process at embassy here, or is it better to apply when I'm in Thailand and apply for ED visa at Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar or Malaysia?

    Thanks

  13. Gang rape in Thailand is surprisingly common, almost no Thai girls will go out alone after dark for fear of this.

Girls are raped in their classrooms, on public transport, followed at night, anywhere they can be trapped alone.

It's not spoken about much to foreigners but all the Thais know about it, if a girl gets caught, she keeps quiet as everyone will say it was her own fault. Once caught, they comply with their attackers to avoid being killed.

This horrific attack matches that crime profile, the police will do almost anything to cover this event up.Thailand is not a safe place for any woman after dark.

It's so sad that this happened, because tourists aren't told of the risks in this country.

Are you nuts? Thailand is one of the safest places for women. I am from Turkey, a muslim country, now that's an unsafe country for women. Actually almost all muslim countries are unsafe for women, and also India. But Budhhist countries like Thailand are much more safer than Muslim countries, and probably even more safer than your own country, the States.

Every year thousands of solo women come to Thailand and they travel without any problems or harresment at all. If it was like you described, we would have been hearing countless cases of rape and harrasment against women, but we are not. I don't know if the things you say about gang rape is true or not, but attitute against farang women is certainly not aggressive.

  14. Do you have any friends in Pattaya still? You do not have to do 90 report yourself ... Anyone can do it for you.

Mail passport to a friend, they do 90 day report and mail it back to you

Actually it is my friend who is having the problem, not me. But I haven't heard from him again yet. As far as I understand, his report date is due. And it says "If you are late your 90 day reporting must be done in person so that you can pay the fine of 2000 baht." at this page: http://www.thaivisa.com/427-0.html

But I'm not sure if he has to pay the fine in Pattaya or if he can pay at any other immigration across the country.

Or like another mentioned... If you leave the country, 90 days starts again... Where are you now? Anywhere near a border? Do you already have re-entry permit? If so, can just in/out at boarder if easier than going to Pattaya

Yes, this also seems like a nice option. So if he leaves and re enters, does he still have to pay the fine for previous report due?

    Thanks for your help

  15. Hello,

A friend living in the south contacted me and asked for help. He has a type B visa that he got from Pattaya immigration. He told me that, for the last 9 months he was doing his 90 day reporting at the local immigration office without any problems. But this time they refused to do the reporting and told him to go Pattaya and report to the immigration office there. He also told me that he visa expires on 17th of March.

So what are his options now? I think it his too late for him to do the reporting by mail. Other then going to Pattaya are there any options? And if he can not do the reporting, does he only have to pay 5000 baht fine?

    Thanks

  16. Before, it was quite easy to get multiple entry visas in Turkey. Even the honarary consulate in Istanbul was issuing 2 or 3 entry visas the same day, without any hassle.

But after current restrictions in Thailand, I decided to give them a call to see if there were any changes. Unfortunately there are.

Now the consulate in Istanbul is issuing only single entry tourist visas. Only Thai embassy in Ankara is now issuing multiple entry visas. But I was told that, one has to explain why he/she needs a 2 or 3 entry visa. If they are satisfied with the answer, then they might issue it.

I wanted to report this recent development, in case someone wants to obtain a tourist visa while in Turkey.

  17. Thai Embassy Washington says "three entries," but only good for three months, which makes three entries worthless.

Correct. In the US, contact an Honorary consult for alternatives.

Wow, so there goes my theory of "maybe there's a standartization now". :) I didn't know it was that much consulate dependent. But 3 months validity for a triple visa is completely ridicilious, what were they thinking?

  18. As far as I know, 2 entry visa also has 6 month validity. Only single entry visa has 3 month validity.

    Not always:

So does it depend on which country you get the visa?

For example, Sweden Thai Embassy FAQ says "Tourist visa double and triple entries having visa validity 180 days so you will be permitted to stay not exceeding 60 days per each entry". http://www.thaiembassy.se/minmapp/filer/pdf-pages/Visa/Frequently_Asked_Questions_new.pdf

So does Canada Thai embassy. "The validity of a visa is 3 months (single entry) or 6 months (double or triple entries)" http://www.thaiembassy.ca/en/visiting-thailand/visas/types-visas-periods-stay-fees/tourist-visa

I thought that was standart. The visa you posted was dated 2009. Maybe the 6 month for double entry is the standart now.
