That's really great news, thanks a lot again for this info.

Wow, so it possible to stay more than 9 months. But isn't 6 month visa validity makes that a little bit hard? For this, I guess I need to fly Thailand the day I get the visa or the day after. Also visa runs have to be exact, and have to return Thailand the same day. Looks like 9 months needs very careful planning. I assumed 8 months was more possible to do.
Thanks for the info

Hello,
According to my calculations, the maximum time I can stay in Thailand with a triple entry tourist visa and extensions is 8 months.
My formula is 60+30+60+60+30 days. I have to do visa runs on 3rd and 5th months.
Is it possible to stay 8 months like this?
Thanks

I have a Turkish passport and had a similiar experience fews years ago at Padang Besar crossing. Although I had a brand new tourist visa that I got from Penang, they singled me out at the que and told me I need to have 20,000 baht with me. Of course I didn't have, so they told me to slip 500 baht inside the passport. As there was a minivan waiting for me, I panicked and gave the bribe. Then they let me in to Thailand. Looks like 200 baht was enough though, according to post 14.
Looks like border points at Malaysia are acting like if they are independent from the rest of the country, majority of the hassle is happening at this border. I have never experienced anything like that on other border crossings. Army seems like trying to correct everything in Thailand those days, I hope they deal with those corrupt immigration officers along Malaysia border as well. It is an extremely shitty feeling being singled out of hundreds of people just because you are from a developing country. I really regret not getting a UK passport when I had the chance.

lol, it's priceless to see digital nomad haters saying "you need to get a word permit" all the time going bananas over the comments of immigration officer.
I'm usually staying 6-7 months in thailand, generally in koh phangan. during all this time I'm renting a bungalow, renting a motorbike, eating from local restaurants & markets, shopping from supermarkets, going to local bars etc. I'm staying in low season as well, while there are no other tourists. so I'm contributing quite a lot to the local economy. and also I'm paying quite a lot for the tourist visa.
that's quite a fair deal, and I'm pretty sure that locals in koh phangan are happy with my presence. looks like only some THF members are not happy with this situation, but who cares?

Recently there was a topic at TVF that said one will be able to get 30 day extension after 29th of August.

As a Turkish national, who was born a Muslim, I find the term "Islamophobia" ridicilous. In today's world, any sane person would fear Islam. Now ISIS barbarians are near Turkey's border, and I'm scared as hell. This is not phobia, this is a real threat.
On the other hand, I think the violence going on deep south is because of imperialism. Imperialists draw borders with rulers, and this is the main cause of problems in places like Thai deep south or middle east.
It is obvious there was a mistreatment of Muslims in deep south. But their way of struggle is so wrong, killing civilians, beheadings, bombings etc. Because of all that crap, I'm not telling that I'm Turkish anymore when I'm abroad, because everyone including Thais hates Muslims today. And this is solely because of Islamic world, they don't comdemn Islamic extremism, and even support it. Even my government can't identify ISIS as terrorists because they symphathize with them. That is ridicilous.

Are there any reports if immigration officers are asking 20,000 baht cash, outbound ticket & hotel reservation during entry to Thailand on a tourist visa? Is it a good idea to carry those just in case from now on?
Thanks
Nothing is being asked if you have a visa, and not even if you don't.
About 2 years ago, I was singled out at the Padang Besar crossing because I am a Turkish citizen. Although I had a brand new tourist visa from Penang, they told me that I need to have 20,000 bath with me. Of course I didn't have it. So they asked me to put 500 baht in the passport. Because there was a van waiting for me, I panicked and did it. Only then they allowed me in.
I hope they don't single out certain nationals at certain border crossings like this.

ubonjoe, you're right, I should make my guide more clear about terms like the actual visa, permit so stay, extension of permit to stay etc. looks like I over simplified it above. thanks again, you're of great help.
mario2008, yep I have mentioned the mail option as well. but thanks for reminding it anyway.

After reading all the messages & the word document I'm still quite confused, this is a really complicated subject. But I think this is the info I need:
O (Marriage): Given as 90 days in home country, can be extended to 12 months in Thailand. Need to go immigration every 90 days.O-A (Retirement): Given as 12 months in home country. Need to go immigration every 90 days in Thailand.O (Other): Given as 90 days single or 12 months multiple entry. Need to do a visa run every 90 days for multiple entry.ED (Education): Given as 90 days ih home country. Needs to be extended at immigration every 90 days during the period of education.B (Business): Still not sureBtw, some people have told me I shouldn't be asking questions here, instead I should contact the embassy in my country. Actually I did that before opening this subject. I am from Turkey, so I contacted the embassy in Ankara & required info about non-immigrant visas. Today finally I got a mail from the Thai person responsible for visas. He only told me to look at www.mfa.go.th/main/en/services/123, the same address given above, nothing else. So this is the only help you can get from embassy. And there isn't any info about visas on the embassy web site, which is a shame. I've written a guide about visas thanks to this topic, so I've mailed it to the Thai guy & asked him if he can read it & tell me if the info is correct or not. I hope this works. -
wow, I was away from the net for a day & I'm quite surprised to find that many replies. I came here from thorn tree forum, I was fed up with some regulars there always ruining the subject. I see that here people are genuinely trying to help, and even when criticising me, showing an alternative way at the same time. that's a nice change.
so thanks everybody for replies. and zaZa9 & konarain, that document is perfect, thanks a lot for sharing it.
have a nice day everybody.

Hello,
I'm preparing a guide about Thailand, but 'm extremely confused about non-immigrant visas.
As far as I understand, to get a 1 year ED visa, first you get a single entry 90 day visa, then you get a 1 year visa but every 90 days you need to go immigration and pay 1900 baht, right?
Is this also the case for 1 year O, O-A and B visas? Or do holders of those visas need to do a visa run every 90 days? Or do they just need to go to immigration every 90 days for address check?
I really appreciate some help, thanks a lot already.

As far as I know, 2 entry visa also has 6 month validity. Only single entry visa has 3 month validity.
