  1. Where is this new retirement extension regulation that requires a map to your address or additional back up beyond the embassy letter for pension income? I'm not asking about Phuket or Udon as they need a forum all of their own but for the majority of immigration offices. Is there really a new regulation or is it just expat skuttlebutt or another April fool's joke?

Not a written regulation, but some offices add their own requirements.

What about Chaeng Wattana, do they have any extra requirements ? I will be doing my first "retirement" extension there next month. I have the financials sorted, if they want proof of address what is ok ? I don't have a lease.

I did mine at Chaeng Wattana a few weeks ago. They don't have any extra or strange requirements. It was very smooth. I showed a copy of my rental contract. Otherwise copies of your bills from rent/electricity/water will work. You don't need any map or anything like that.

  2. To get the extension of stay it's required to get the 50k salary. Even charity workers with no salary can have a WP

Even for extensions of stay, volunteers and teacher do not have a minimum salary. A different clause of the regulations is used.

I wrote even charity workers can have a WP. (not an extension) (Ididn't talk about charity workers extension at all)

The 50k extension was a reply to the other post from the person who wrote he need it to get a WP

  3. No-one has mentioned the biggest problem here ! The actual work permit is only around 800Bht, I believe, but in order to achieve your goal you must sign a document stating that you are receiving at least 80,000 Bht salary, and on this basis will you be charged income tax ! I ended up paying around 23,000 Bht per month to have this document (blue book), and to tell you the truth it is not worth the hastle. Fly low to the ground and do what everyone else is doing.

Incorrect. There is no minimum salary for a work permit, otherwise teachers would never get one.

For westerners, there is a minimum salary of Bt 50,000 for an extension of stay when working as non-teacher

    The two things are different.

This is correct. For my work permit, I am required to get a salary of 50,000 baht per month. The income and social security taxes combined total 4,250.

There are reasons to be here on a retirement visa, and reasons to be here on a work permit. I qualify for both. But I got very bored and wanted to work. And the extra income means that I am not spending my savings. I meet more people. I enjoy being here more. But it is not for everyone. There are more hoops to jump through. And taxes to file. Etc.

To get the extension of stay it's required to get the 50k salary. Even charity workers with no salary can have a WP

  4. I have been in a few other small cities in the north and really liked them. Now I'm planning to fly to Loei. What is there to see and do? And is it best to stay in Loei or Chiang Khan ? Is there buses going between these two places all the time?

  5. How could they possibly know that the tourist forgot instead of the officer checking. I'm positive I put my number down and also saw the officer look at the actual visa. However - Tomorrow morning we all know what's gonna happen....

How can somebody be so sure that they put their visa number down? And that the officer looked at the visa? If they don't even spend 2 seconds to check the stamp and see how many days they got????

  6. I am a 19 yr. resident of Thailand. I use a factor of 0.285 when comparing prices here with my home country,Canada. Or, expressed the other way, prices there are 3.5x Thai prices. I think for someone from London, you could probably use a factor of 0.2 to 0.25. Think about health insurance costs, if you will need to buy that here.

what you on , I can live for a 1000baht a week easy, but i can live Thai, it depends on what you want out of life try moving after you have your Visas sorted out, Then try living in-Thailand first, Thats what most people do then they get an idea on what they want out of Thailand.

dO YOU MEAN 1,000 BAHT A DAY??????

NOBODY, can live in 4000 baht a month

I'm 95 kg bodybuilder. So I eat a lot of pork/chicken/vegs/fruits. I don't drink. And I pay for my food about 4.000baht per months.

You can't eat that much if you only spend just over 100 baht a day............

Ha ha ha you can live on 4000 baht a month easy...............are you sleeping on the street and begging to get your food ?

  8. All you need is a copy of your rental agreement. If your landlord is too idle to produce one move on & return the keys.

(Fare paying passenger an' all that; Something not everyone here comprehends!)

I doubt that just a copy is enough. Anybody can create a rental contract, or use an old one. The rental contract will have to be verified.

I couldn't even register a motorcycle in my name with just a rental contract!

I then doctored my buddy's verified rental contract since I lived in another province and didn't want to do the round trip.

Don't want to step on your toes but recommending finding a new place, packing everything up and moving instead of getting a statement from the house owner is not very practical advice.

A copy of the contract and nothing else was enough when I did my Extension o couple of weeks ago at the Bangkok Immigration

Sounds good enough, except the 2 months of deposit money which is gone for sure.

Oh yes for sure the scumbag will not give that up..

It will the the same problem whenever he move then. So that is not a reason to stay a few years in a place that is not nice........

  10. In our case, maybe 5000 baht a year tax. Hmm. Might be manageable.

There will be a very lucrative business in "low" valuations.

edit: If your place is worth 2mil, you pay 500 baht a year. Boohoo. So expensive. facepalm.gif

How did you work that out? 500B?

if you have a calculator handy, check out 2,000,000 x 0.05. You might just recognise that it's 100,000B, and not 5,000 as you indignantly and sarcastically suggest.

Happy with that would you be, as an extra addition to your annual outgoings, no matter how rich - it's a fair sum?

So, if you do indeed own a place where you state in your case 5,000 baht a year tax might be manageable.... I guess you live in a tin-hut Khlong property then?

    - first million baht excluded

    - second and third million baht taxed at 0.05% of evaluation

It will not be any 100,000 baht

  11. The same. They are both omeprazole..which is available in multiple other brand names as well.

Actually Losec brand is no longer on market in Thailand though some places may still have it on the shelves.

I belive Losec still is in the market here. I see them in many Pharmacies. Today only a couple of hors ago in the phamacy 3rd floor at Central Sala Deng in Bangkok. 995 baht was the price and 70 baht for the same Miracid box

  12. Losec and Miracid have the same therapeutic ingredient --- Omeprazole --- in the same amounts. I was prescribed Losec in 1993 and, at that time, it was imported and very expensive. Miracid is made in Thailand and sold for a fraction of the cost. I switched to Miracid and, for me, it works just as well as Losec. Why pay those inflated import taxes?

i have been on miracid for 6yrs. works fine.

i finks ig got his sums wrong, miracid comes in box's of 14 for 45bht.and 90 devided by 14?

miracid and a few others in Thailand are the Generic versions of losec, took Losec for quite a while on prescription in farangistan and jumped over omicid and miracid when I came to Thailand

Losec is expensive where ever you are in the word,

I dont know where people are getting THB 45 for 14 miracid, I pay THB 75 for 14

Most of the Pharmacies in Ratchatewi, Payai Thai and Pratunam charge me 50 baht

Yes I also see boxes of 14. Usually around 50 baht for a box

  14. The English name of the active agent is written on the packet. Miracid contains Omeprazole. I never heard of Losec, go buy some and look.

Losec is the original drug from Astra in Sweden. At one time it was the most moneymaking export in Sweden
