  1. A lot of video content and live streaming is only available for broadcast or viewing in the geographical region of origin. Netflix servers in Thailand have less content than what is available in the US. When they read your IP address they limit your access. I stream the Netflix US content. I also watch Amazon Prime, NBC, ABC, FOX, listen to IHeart Radio and others. I use a proxy service that allows me to stream blocked content. It works globally, streaming from the US, UK, Europe, Japan and other countries. They offer a free 30-day no credit card required trial. I have been a subscriber for 2 months and it works as advertised. It costs me about $1.04 a month, a lot cheaper than any VPN. The set-up was easy and took less than 10 minutes on my laptop. I stream content through my laptop to my tv with no speed or latency issues. Check out their website. Here is a link.                  https://www.smartdnsproxy.com/?afid=9c06a12a3893

I just signed up for a free trial. The list of servers doesn't include the UK so no good for BBC iPlayer for those who need it.

Are you in the UK or Thailand. I just registered on BBC iPlayer and it worked for me. Now watching Dr Who, series 10: 1. The Pilot

  3.

I stream content from the US through my laptop directly from the providers to my tv.  A lot of content from is regionally restricted to view only inside the country of origin.  If your IP address is outside the geographical viewing area, the content will be blocked. I use a proxy service that allows me to view blocked contact. It works globally. I now watch Netflix from the US servers that give me access to more content than the Netflix Thailand servers. I am sure if you streamed Netflix from the UK it would have more British content. Besides Netflix, I watch NBC, ABC, FOX, Amazon Prime, listen to IHEART RADIO and many others. This service offers a 30-day no credit card required a free trial. I used the free trial and it worked as advertised.  I have been a subscriber now for 2 months and am completely satisfied. My 2-year subscription costs less than $1.04 a month. Here is the website. Use the free trial and see for yourself. Any questions pm me.

Some can learn languages easier but anyone can learn a language. I learned to read/write Thai in 1 month, less than one hour a day. Only someone that is mentally-challenged couldn't learn to read Thai, it's easy. This is just an excuse from people who are too lazy to learn, or for some bizarre reason expect Thais to speak English.

    As for the cold/flu

    1

Talk about mentally challenged.  I repeat it slooowly,   you  can  not  get  the  flu  from  being  in  the  rain.   A cold and the flu are caused by virus's that compromise the respiratory system. The flu is the more serious condition. These viruses are transmitted by direçt contact with an infected host or indirectly through an object the host has exposed. Having wet hair will not give you a cold or the flu. Now, if you are in the shower with someone contagious with the cold or flu virus and they coughed in your face, you may become sick, but it won't be because you have wet hair.

The two articles you attached give no credibility to your reasoning.

    like what?

there are many available, but Pulse seems to be the best by far.

    its 1,000 baht a month not 10k.

I apologize for the extra "0". I had a macular tear in my left eye last spring and the surgery was not 100%. I now have the same condition in the right eye. Some letters in words are not visible.  As an example, if stare at the "m" in example the p and l disappear. So I have to scan left to right on each letter to read. I missed the extra zero.

I stream my Amazon Prime, free US based tv network shows and music that are regionally blocked. I also stream my Netflix from the US servers that offers more content than the Thai version. I use Smart DNS Proxy. It can unlock blocked access globally through its servers. They offer a 30-day free trial. I have used it for 2 months and it works like advertised. I stream through my laptop to my tv and have had no speed or latency issues. I subscribed for 2 years for a monthly cost of about $1.04. Check out their website. Here is a quick link if anyone is interested.

Rapom. I suppose you adhere to the opinion that foreigners should not integrate into the land the emigrate to.

What do you think of foreigners in your country that refuse to learn the language and think they are superior to their new countryfolk?

    1

In response to your first sentence, No.  But I also think people should not demonstrate their lack of common sense or education by making statements such as; I KNOW that going out in the rain causes the "flu".

Sentence number two. What someone else chooses to do in their personal life is none of my concern, nor should it be yours.  I do not consider myself to be superior to anyone, unlike yourself who criticizes others inability to speak Thai correctly.

Was making a fence and put the ex tree post in the ground with smaller diameter end in the hole.

No good, bad luck.Had to come out and be reversed.

Back in the days when US farms were smaller acreage and fences served as boundaries from your neighbors or seçtions, the fence posts were cut from hedgerows and strung with wire. The large end of the post was always placed in the hole. This gave the fence extra support and in areas where the ground would freeze in winter, it helped to prevent the post from being pushed up.

I don't think medical knowledge comes from where you have been living. Strange thing to say.

I agree with your first sentence, living in Thailand has definitely not improved your medical knowledge. If you go out in the rain, I can guarantee you will get wet, less so if you use an umbrella, but being in the rain will not give you the flu. The only thing strange is your belief that it does. Don't reply just Google "how do you get the flu".

  9. I buy honey that is sold at a restaurant, on the north side of Surin. It comes in a 700ml, beer shaped clear bottle that sells for 150 baht. The label is in Thai but states "pure honey" and has an OTOP symbol on it. You can also buy it in a smaller jar that has a piece of honeycomb.  I must say that it is one of the best honey's s I have tasted. It costs less and tastes better than the imported honey sold at Tesco or Tops.

Different culture different beliefs. My mother told me not to get cold or wet feet as it caused colds.

Was told couldn't eat ice-cream with a sore throat etc.

After living here 3 decades, I KNOW that going out in the rain causes the "flu". I'm not a doctor and don't know about viruses or bacteria but before the storm there is a strong wind which lifts all the dirty stuff into the air, this then comes down in the rain causing sickness. After it has been raining a while, then it is safe to go out in it.

After reading your post, it is clear to me that after having lived here for 3 decades you still know nothing about how people contract the flu. Your last two sentences made that clear to me.

Speedtest is well known and proxied at the provider usually, so the results are mostly lies. 13ms to India would be quite optimistic I'd think.

Well, I have tested my internet conneçtion speeds thru my PS4 to their server. They are about 7% less than my laptop test to Playstation's website. So it appears to be somewhat credible.

You can start by doing this test:

    https://sourceforge.net/speedtest/?source=slashdotannouncement

which should give you a bit more geeky info about your connection, see what that comes up with.

I tried this servive and received conflicting results compared to Speedtest. Speedtest shows 13ms ping, 33.06 down and 8.46 up connecting to their server in India. Their test shows 84ms ping, 21.2 down and 7.90 up to the same server. ???

  13. If Speedtest shows 18.4 up and 1.2 down, there is definitely something wrong. But, I think you are confused and have reversed the up and down.  My 3BB fiber stats are over 32 down and 9+ up after the system upgrade from the original 20/4. Ping is usually 13ms. I live in the country, about 12 km's NE of Surin and almost 1km from the village were my connection originates. Are you the only subscriber connected to the service. If there are other tenants or people using your service that could contribute to lag. I game on a PS4 daily and have no performance issues. Hardwiring your conneçtion should not reduce performance, just the opposite. Ther may be other issues, such as set-up. I know the original post was in April and you have probably solved your internet issues, but if you have not you can contact 3BB in Bangkok by dialing 1530. Follow the prompts and ask to speak to tech support. They can analyze your connection and reset if it is not correct.   Most of my PS4 games connect automatically to the servers in Singapore

  14. Tiger Direct website sells this MacBook Pro brand new for $1299 and with the 256gb ssd for $200 more. You can buy refurbished from Newegg.com a lot cheaper than the price you quote. Both websites have Surfaces too. I would never buy any refurbished computer or any other eleçtronics (especially in Thailand) unless it was done by and included a factory warranty, even then it would have to be a bargain price.  Without a warranty, once you pay it's your problem. Personally, I would never buy any Apple product for the same reason a would not pay $250 or a pair of athletic shoes endorsed by some pro athlete. The value for your money doesn't equate. The 1-year-old HP computer I am using has a 17" HD touchscreen,  I-7 processor, 1tb hardrive, 12gb memory, Nvidia graphics and a DVD drive, cost less than $700 including sales tax. That is value for the money.

  15. Problems with mail delivery is not just limited to Thailand. Some 10 years past I had a reoccurring issue with the postal carrier delivering to my home in the US. My house number was 921 and marked clearly by 6" numbers on my house.  This female carrier would leave mail in my box, addressed to the house next door. She would then walk past the intended recipient's home to continue her route. I started out taking the wrongly delivered mail to the neighbor's box. This would occur frequently each week.  Sometimes I would get mail addressed to house 921, one block over. Tiring of this I kept the mail for several weeks and took the colleçtion to the post office.  The clerk, another female, seemed upset that I had not brought the mail in sooner, after it was delivered by mistake.  I informed her that it was the carriers job, not mine to deliver mail. The situation didn't improve. After numerous, tríp taking mail back to the post office, I eventually stop returning the mail. One day, I received two boxes addressed the house 1 block over. I left them on the porch for over a week thinking the carrier would finally realize her mistake. She didn't. I still have a set of aftermarket chrome exhaust extensions for a 90's Ford Mustang.  Mail delivery improved about 12 months later, when she married a wealthy farmer and quit her job.

  16. I do not have any first-hand experience, but after doing some research, I have been considering sending our 7-year old daugther to the Holy Infant Jesus Catholic School next year. It is located on the east side of the Hwy 214 by-pass road, North of the junction at Robison Mall. They have a website and Facebook page, but neither are up to date. Photos of the classrooms, the staff's credentials and the curriculum offered look good to me.

I recently investigated this. They have a daft rule which states that only the small chainsaws are available for sale in the shops. If you want a larger one you have to get a permit from the forestry dept.

If you go for a smaller one you should go for the 'Stihl' brand. Its the best one and german made. I would not buy any other brand to be honest.

Yes, Stihl is a German brand, but not all their products are made in Germany. They have plants in the US, South America and China. Take a guess as to which country supplies Stihl chainsaws to Thailand. (think logistics) Even their chainsaws sold in Germany have parts supplied from China.

If you ask for a normal savings account it's free. Maybe they gave you a deposit account.  They also try to sell you insurances you don't need.

Kasikorn lists no free sms services on their website. The sms service fee is 20 baht a month or 199 baht annually. My account is a savings account with atm withdrawals. I pay no fee because I do not subscribe to the service. Also, they did not try to sell me any insurance.

SMS service is free at Kasikorn .

Yours may be free.  I opened a Kasikorn account 2 years ago to get their atm card as a back-up to my BB account. 12 months later, I made another deposit and had the passbook updated. When I examine the transactions, there were 2 deductions for 199 baht each. When I inquired what they were for, I was told the annual sms  fee. My question to the teller was "why I am being charged an sms fee, when I have no phone number on file with the bank"? I got the "I do not know".  I had to go to the atm outside the bank and dis-enroll from sms messaging to get the latest fee charge reversed.        Kasikorn's website shows the sms fee is 20 baht a month or 199 baht a year.
