  1. I was unfortunatly outside when she went in, but according to her she was the second one they turned down today. It was only two low level officers that agreed she could not get it and she is not the one to ask for a superior.

Just to make this even more weird, when she got the first ED visa and was going to extend it she couldn't do so. In order to extend it she needed 9 points from the first exams, before that the uni would not give her the paper. As the results did not arrive before 4 months after first ED visa was issued she had to go and get yet another one in Yangon. Now she has paper and results from the exam but is denied at immigration.

So how can she get ED visa 2 times if this line of study is not supported according to officers at Chaeng Watthana, it just dosen't add up.

  2. My wife is studying for a bachelor degree in english and today they refused to give an extension on the ED visa. They claimed that she could do it on internet from home country and come to Thailand for exams 3 times a year. I was under the impression that it was only language schools that would be affected by the new rules and not universitys.

On a sidenote, if you have ever been in back country Myanmar you would quickly understand that it is impossible to stream anything, on a good day google opens in 1 minute smile.png .

Are they totally misinterpreting the new rules or can noone study in this country any more?

Edit: Need to add that she had a letter from MOE and exam results from last 2 semester with very good grades that clearly is a result from actually studying.

Man, stop the Russian/non Russian war.  Thailand does not care about the Tourism industry anymore. It represents less than 1% of the GDP, We are no wanted anymore, Russians or not.

Thai economy receives around 7% of its GDP from international tourism revenue, a figure which is nonetheless a substantial 550 billion Baht (nearly USD 16 billion).

Everyone, absolutely everyone that overstays do it on purpose, either by their own will or just because they are plain stupid.
I have no symphaty with those who break the law in a country they visit, why this forum touches them with silk gloves is beyond my comprehension. They are the ones making it tougher for all the rest who follow the law.
My myanmar girlfriend got in trouble renewing her ED visa at uni due to some weird rules at the school itself ( you need 9 points to renew ED visa but can in no way obtain them before after 4 months), but did she overstay? No, we did the right thing and left country to obtain a new ED visa for her, case closed.

My point is that if you do NOT have money in backup when abroad, then you should not be abroad in the first place!

Why do people like you think others need your sympathy?

Seeing the amount of posters coming on to the site crying out " why me" and "poor little me", Thailand is so unfair to me just because I have a little overstay of ..... 5 - 6 or 8 years. Tell me then what they are looking for since you seem to know it all?

  6. Arrived Penang by air 16. June and stayed at the Cititel and after a good breakfast I went down to Banana Travel on Chulia Street around 10 am. Gave them the 110 ringit for visa and another 40 for the work, collected it again at 4 pm. Very relaxing way to get a visa, I rented a mororbike and played tourist all day while others did the work for me ;)

Flew back on evening of 18 and all in all a good experience.

While it may impact things like Thai's renting to expats, I'm sure the slack demand will be absorbed fairly quickly as Thailand's RE market is already somewhat overheated.

What planet do you live on? I live in a luxury complex with around 800 condos, I guess around 200 of those are rented out to foreigners and at any given time around 200 are empty, as in noone to rent them. The story is the same all over Bangkok, empty condos and owners burning their pockets on the investment. On average in my complex we pay around 25-40k a month and do not tell me that it will be easy for owners to find new takers if the expats go. We are a bunch of people on visa waivers since we all work abroad and spend all our free time in Thailand.

I fixed my own visa act but I know many consider other options in SE Asia, the condo owners will be sleepless at night.

    Form news today:

Thai households are among the most indebted in Asia, and the official figures understate the problem due to the large sums also owed to loan sharks — estimated at as much as 2.4 trillion baht ($74 billion).

At 9.79 trillion baht at the end of 2013, the household debt was 76% higher than in 2009, driven up by easy monetary policy and government stimulus measures that led consumers to splurge on cars, houses and electronic goods

I call that a BIG bubble!

She can get a non-immidrant non-educational visa for one year by getting the forms from her university. The forms include such information as her grades and other informations showing she's a fulltime student. Since, however, she's in a deadline crunch, I'm sure the writers above have good suggestions to extend her present stay. I'm going thru the same procedure with my girl friend, so she will be able to get the above visa before her current extended stay expires on September 11th. If it were me, I'd go to the dean of the department she's attending within the university. Good luck!

We have already been through one round, first ED visa ran out 1 week after first exams, but low and behold, you need exam results of minimum 9 points to get extension. So actually impossible to get points within the first 3 month ED visa, we had to go to Yangoon for a second visa. This time she has 12 points but noone at the university explained that she needed the information showing full time study, go figure :(

Since I am an oil and gas guy I have never needed any other visa then the one on arrival, so I did not know what she needed. I do begin to see why so many are frustrated by all the runarouns concerning visa though.

Why not ask her doctor for a letter saying she is unable to travel due to her medical condition.
Should be good for a two month medical extension.

She is a full time student and that would mean that she has to go out of thailand again to get a new ED visa. It is all about getting the ED extension, but due to bad advise at uni it will be a few days after the original date.

  10. Hi

My wife is studying at university in Bangkok and despite her asking them on several occasions what is needed to extend visa they failed to help. At immigration they told her that she is missing a letter of invite or simmilar even though she has already studied there for 6 months (had to go out of thai to get a second ED since they need 9 points).

When back at uni an eldrely women said of course you need it, we hand them out all the time. However the young lady she had spoken to did not know this, so rather then saying she did not know and ask someone she just gave a wrong answer (guess it's all about loosin face as usual in LOS).

Her ED visa runs out on Monday and she is 8 months pregnant, the paper will be ready on tuesday-thursday, anyone know what she should do? Am I correct in reading somewhere that you have 7 days after last date?

Can of course get a medical visa but that is a bad option.

    Regards, Paul

  11. WOW ... Bumrungrad ... you must be very rich ... seriously.

There are so many equally good Private Hospital options at 1/2 the price!

We had our birth at a Bangkok private hospital. Bt 42,000, 4 days/3 nights, C-Section ... how does that compare for costs?

The Hospital gave us the Birth Certificate.

As for 'register at amphur' ... no, the entry in the blue book was done by us, and it has to be done at the amphur the Hospital is in ... not where your partner is registered.

    Well, that is our experience.

    Elephants_zpsb52ebc80.png

We are doing a C section package and the cost is 89,000 and i can't remember how many days and nights are included.i think 3 days and 2 nights. We just had our 20 week visit today and it was 6,000 for the visit and ultrasound. (I'm going to have a boy!) last months visit was 17,000 baht for ultrasound and blood work. We make appointments but have been showing up whenever. Never a wait and our Dr. is always there, he works 7 days a week. (Dr. Rasik) He answered questions in the ultrasound room for nearly a hour today.

Our first couple of visits were to Samitivej, but I just didn't get a good vibe there. and its only 10,000 baht cheaper. Everybody seemed so depressed and in a bad mood.

What other hospitals do you recommend, I still have time to switch....

Ladprao hospital, 33000,- or 43000 if c-section, includes all vaccines, pills, 2 x ultrasound and 3 days/2 nights.

  12. Since the OP is Thai he would show his Thai ID card instead of a passport. A passport would only be needed for a non Thai parent.

but i need to show proof I'm american on the childs birth certificate in order for the child to get its american citizenship

I have dual passports, English/Norwegian, name of father on birth certificate and then show my correct passports at the embassy in question. Voila, 2 passports for baby ;)

  13. I know they aren't meant to start enforcing this at the airport till mid August.

Just my experience at arrival today. I'm working offshore on a 3/3 rota. I usually have a non immigrant visa but haven't had an oppotunity to renew it since last October so have beeb using visa waiver on arrival. Today was my 5th in a row in a fairly new passport. No mention from the woman officer. Just 30 stamp and away. Hopefully this will set any other offshore types arriving in the next few days at ease. I still intend to get another non-im next Month as I don't meed any hassle from immigration.

Nice, I leave LOS next week for 21 days work so hope more will post same good news.

  14. I am one of the oil & gas people (maybe) being hit by this, work/travel to europe for 17 days and spend 25 in thailand like clockwork. If it turns out I need a visa, lets say an ED visa, can I then re-enter on it 8 times a year?

Still have 3 years to hit 50 so that is a not an option wink.png

I believe the re-entry limit is 365 times 366 on leap years. If you have a family best to get a Family Support Visa. Both visas are around 25k plus about 3k for the multiple re-entry permit.

Sorry but I don't quite understand your answer, re-entry 365 times in a year? I enter and leave 8 times a year on average.

My wife is Burmese and she studies on an ED visa at university, so family visa is not an option.
