I think you [and many others] should learn something about currencies [what you call "money" but is NOT "money"] !

    What is it ?

Where does it come from ?

    Who issues it ?

If you answer these 3 questions correctly then you probably would change your view on this topic completely.

A cashless society is Orwell's nightmare on steroids for many reasons.

Technology can be good but it can also turn into a total nightmare if used the wrong way.

Just because we can do something does not mean we should do it !!!

the world base currency is the US dollar. US dollar bank notes are printed and issued by the Federal Reserve which is not as many think owned by the US government but instead is owned by a group of Jewish families. They sell these US banknotes to the US government on credit with interest added. Other countries have their own governments issuing money. Theoretically when a country prints money they should have reserves of metals, owed foreign debt etc to balance against the paper money but as we all know this s not the case anymore and many countries are carrying way too much paper. One thing most won't know is when you change the euro or pound etc to baht it is not a direct exchange, behind the scenes it actually is exchanged first to US currency then to baht or whatever the desired currency is. I know it doesn't seem this way when the kiosk person looks up the exchange rates and pays you but this is how it works and how much all currencies are tied into the US dollar.

  2. yesterday paid 9500b and a bottle of regency whiskey and obtained the closest thing to a birth certificate as we are going to get. We got a certificate of place of birth, can't get a full birth certificate as birth was never registered and mother has no ID So is basically an alien.

  3. thanks slapout. He definitely is out to put money in his and his buddies pockets, I think it's 5 people the money is to be shared with. He is my wife's uncle which makes it worse. We have decided to pay, yesterday my wife and him had a big argument where she questioned the money and he said he was doing a favor so there would be no problems where she replied it was her doing him the favor by putting money in his pocket. NZ immigration said they require birth certificate and ID card is not enough so I said we just pay. We are off to the amphoe in 30 minutes time, seem this is where we have to do it in this neck of the woods. The amount rose by 2000b yesterday after my wife argued with him so up to 12000b now. I've handed no money over yet and none will be until we have the birth certificate. This is corruption at its best.

  4. I'm up in the far north trying to get my partner a birth certificate. Her birth was never recorded officially though she has an ID card and passport with the birth date as xx/xx/1976. We just went and saw the village head honcho to ask his help before we go the the local amphoe. He has said if we want know problems it will cost about 10,000b. It seems expensive. Would appreciate any feedback from anyone who has dealt with a similar situation.

  5. my girl and and are in a defacto relationship and plan on marrying at some stage. We spend about 5 months a year in Thailand with the balance in New Zealand. I have always used the visa exempt system but looking for a change. Is a defacto relationship considered the same as married? What is involved in getting a partnership visa?

    cheers

Thai girls are very silly and think all foreigners, even if you tell them otherwise, are rich.

As soon as they find out you cannot afford a house, car, other luxuries they want, you will be tossed to the curb

Thai girls expect to hit the lottery with a foreigner

You cannot buy cars, houses, land, gold, Iphones with good looks

    Bound to fail

In a choice over love or money, most will chose a man with money that an support her needs

Wrong. I have no money yet found a Thai girl who loves me for who I am and is happy in her first job here living with me in New Zealand. We save hard and spend about 5 months a year in Thailand.

  7. I met an old girl aged in he late 70's in an Aussie bar at Jomtiem. She had just packed up to move back to Australia after living the past 40 years in Thailand without ever returning home once. She was worried as hadn't kept touch with family or friends and now knew nobody back in Oz. I clearly remember her saying that if she was a man she would be staying as she saw Thailand as a paradise for men but found it very hard to live a satisfying life as an elderly single woman in the Kingdom.  I guess after 40 years she understands the Thai life for an expat better than most but is she right?

I would guess that getting really old and sick really sucks, no matter where you are in the world. But if you have family around you, I guess that makes it easier.

I know some pretty old farangs living here. Compared to the old people I know in my home country, they live a pretty good life. At least they can sit outside and enjoy the weather, without freezing to death ;-)

and still boom boom a youngish girl when energy levels allow which isn't so easy in the west

Theres a farlang guy in the village fell and broke his hip, the hospital will not operate until he pays 100000 baht, so they took him back to his room where he lays in his bed, has a Thai girlfriend who just spends all his 55.000 baht per mnth pension and leaves him to rot in his bed. He has no medical insurance so is basically finished. Has made me think and I will be returning back to my country before its to late.

Call the guys embassy so they can arrange some medical care.

  10. Sure it wasn't a small bird (size of a sparrow with bird like feet and claws) that somehow got into the leg of your pants and in it's panic to be free it stabbed you with its beak. Birds carry all sorts of disease which could account for your fever

  11. welcome to Thailand where people look after all family members good or bad because of a lack of social services. Don't go to the police, you will never be forgiven. , to him you are probably fair game. You are farang so must be wealthy. You need to find a way to relate to this guy and try and help him in front of the family rather than villainizing him

  12. I am traveling up to the Chiang rai region in early November just as the coffee harvest starts. I'm hoping to buy some quality green coffee beans while I'm up there. Can anyone recommend where I can get quality Arabica beans? I have a couple of farms in the Doi Tung area but are after a few more to visit.

    Cheers

  13. Haha I laughed when I read this about the pyjama brigade. I traveled to Pai last year and they were in full swing there but can't say it bothered me. They seemed a happy lot and I was happy in my shorts, t-shirt and jandels which I live in unless visiting somewhere that requires something a little more conservative
